I feel somewhat sorry for the MW2 fanboys out there, but I guess this just makes people hate even more Activision and Bobby Kotick.
Wow. I mean, wow. Are they even trying any more? Honestly, this will kill the franchise; even more than 2 did! Does this mean that Xbox 360 players will have to pay for Gold, and then another subscription service?
Ditto. How long will it be until Activision realizes that gouging the customers is not a good business plan?
Oh I'll never hear the end of this. I'm glad Steam don't charge for memberships otherwise I wouldn't be able to game at all.
Well if it happened, I just wouldn't play it anymore.
Thinking back on the day when I decided not to buy this game makes me feel quite good.
I don't because eventually they will screw us all over. They will buy this. Other companies will see $$$$ and we are boned.
Who wants to pay to be harassed by fowl mouthed ten year olds?
Everything that used to be for that game is steadily going downhill, and its all because Activison use the business techniques of total assholes
Am I glad to be a Battlefield kind of guy!
You can count me out. | |
Well im happy i don't care much for modern warfare, but i kinda feel bad for those who are fans.
I hesitate to imagine the massive shit storm that would be unleashed if they started requiring membership to play MW2 now. I mean, it's one thing to release a new game where people know when they buy it that they'll have to pay extra for membership, but to wait until after more people have bought the game than... well... pretty much any game ever, and THEN decide that they have to pay extra... That can't even be legal can it?
Sure COD's multiplayer is fun, but nothing subscription worthy. All this will do is remove all the screachy teens whose parents wont pay up for a game every month, and then remove all the gamers who dont want to pay either.
I can't really understand why all the map-packs for this game is on the top sellers on steam.. why do people insist on paying more for this game when there is NO community, lousy support, lousy matchmaking, (whole bunch of other problems and bugs i can't be arsed to list)? It's beyond me.
I just bought COD4 today, they better not impliment it into that!
Light the torches! Gather the pitchforks! We march to Activision HQ. We return with their heads...
I hope this doesn't come to fruition. I only play MW if all my friends say "Com'on come play!"
Surely if this is implemented on all platforms, we won't see another CoD on the PS3?
If it becomes true and implemented and the game doesn't die off i would be amazed.
They don't need to. They get us with those crazy ass deals they put up every now and then.
Come on Activision, do it. See what happens. I think it would go down as one of the biggest disasters in gaming history. And god it would be funny.
Their terms and conditions state that access to the multiplayer features may change at any time, and that means that, as long as they give notice, they can add in subscription fees if they wanted and it's 100% legal.
I dont think anyone here is actually suprised. The only way Activision coul dbe move evil is if they where called GenTek, nothing good ever comes outs of a company called Gen Tek.
No more COD for me then. | |
It's the beginning of the end everyone. COD is the FPS equivelent of WoW, so maybe that's were Bobby thought this would be a good idea. the problem is Bobby, FPS gamers dont like the idea of paying for something that USED to be free. your making a mistake, and I sincerly believe that this will end badly for you.
It won't die. People will still pay for this sort of thing.
Good thing I'm no longer buying any Call of Duty games any more. I may rent them for the Campaign and Achievements, but other than that I'm staying the hell away from them.
Those crazy ass deals are the greatest thing since sliced bread in my opinion. Which reminds me I have to get Alien Swarm.
I personally am not a fan of Activision and have and have stopped buying their games unless they have really good reviews. However, I say bring it! If this bombs it will be a good day for everyone who hates Activision, if somehow people actually bite into this I couldn't care less as I don't follow FPS except for TF2 and we all know Valve would never do something this greedy and stupid.
And thus the franchise is killed by Kotick and his crew of Milk maids and men. Such a shame. Calumon: Kotick has his own bosses, right?
Here's what my little brother thought about this article: "MW2 will stil be awesum! id jus steal mom's credit card 2 pay 4 it!" Note: He's in seventh grade.
If people are willing to pay 15 dollars for 2 rehashed maps and 3 new ones, then they'll sure as hell pay a subscription fee. I, personally, will take my business somewhere else, such as Valve or even *Shudder* EA.
Oh well. I was going to buy Black ops (To play zombies with my freinds) but now.

Rumor: Evidence of Modern Warfare Memberships Uncovered?
A random pop-up on the screen of a Modern Warfare 2 player could be an indication that a paid subscription plan was in the works.
Let's keep this one as a complete and total rumor for now, but a Modern Warfare 2 player may have stumbled upon evidence of a planned membership program for the game. While trying to join a friend's match, a screen popped up that asked him to pay for a subscription.
The player videotaped it, so as we can see the text over the top of the pop-up says "Modern Warfare 2 Membersh..." which I think we can extend to "membership." The text in the center of the screen says: "No memberships are available at this time. Please try again later." It allowed the player to purchase Microsoft Points to acquire one of said memberships.
The video could be doctored, or a bug related to an Xbox Live Gold subscription plan, but could easily be real too. It's no secret that Activision wants to attach a subscription service to the Call of Duty brand, with CEO Bobby Kotick even admitting he'd implement one in some form as soon as possible if he could.
The question is if the pop-up is from a subscription plan of days past, or of days future. The way Kotick talked about it previously indicates that subscriptions are off the table for now until a new title is released, so the former makes more sense meaning that if this screen is real it's from leftover code and just happened to appear. Whether Activision wants to charge for extra multiplayer features of Modern Warfare or for a completely unique Call of Duty MMOG is unknown, but we'll find out eventually because this issue isn't going away anytime soon.
