BioWare Reveals Lair of the Shadow Broker DLC for Mass Effect 2

BioWare has taken the wraps off Lair of the Shadow Broker, the new DLC expansion for Mass Effect 2 that will feature the return of everyone's favorite blue-skinned space babe.

Rumors about Mass Effect 2 DLC based on Liara T'soni, the Asari biotic who just couldn't manage to squeeze "saving the galaxy" into her busy schedule, first came to light back in April after Thepwnage.com dug up some suspicious-looking Liara audio files buried in the game. EA said at the time that it wouldn't comment on "rumors or speculation," but it turns out that rumors were right: Liara is joining the team.

How her return will be handled isn't clear at this point but the DLC will apparently be based on the aftermath of Liara's struggle to recover Shepard's body from the Shadow Broker two years earlier. That story was detailed in the four-part comic book series Mass Effect: Redemption, which I didn't read but that, based on the brief encounter with Liara in Mass Effect 2, left some pretty hard feelings. Now Liara wants some payback and apparently Shepard and his team have decided to take a break from saving the galaxy to help her get it.

It seems a little weird to me that with the fate of the galaxy still hanging by a thread and Cerberus, with Shepard and company at the tip of its spear, still the only group taking the matter seriously, everyone would be so cool with knocking off for a few weeks to help Liara settle a score. Am I really supposed to care about some kind of intergalactic gangsta throw-down when life as we know it is staring down the barrel of extinction?

Eh, who am I kidding? I'll probably buy it the day it comes out. When that day will come hasn't been announced, however, so stay tuned!

Time to get my ME2 disk back of my friend before it comes out.

That reminds me, I forgot to get Overlord as well...

FINALLY!

This is the DLC I'm waiting for before I play through Mass Effect 2 again. (And try all the DLCs I've missed.)

'Lair' is almost an anagram of Liara....

Im bored

As good as Mass Effect is, continuity and correlation in its own universe is not its strength.

But aye, I shall get this upon its release as well, about time something meaty was made.

Do want! If it's as good as having Liara back and assaulting the shadow broker sounds, anyway. I don't want to spend hours hacking terminals and finding the computer they unlock again.

Hopefully this will be free for those with the Cerberus Network...

I honestly don't want to spend MicrosoftPoints for something I could have gotten for free if they had just kept using the system.

I try to get out, but they just keep pulling me back in. Although I honestly thought that the shadowbroker situation wouldn't be resolved untill ME3.

I'm thinking thay might add one with Ashley or Kaidan the way its going.

Hm. Still need to get overlord.

Ah well, birthday's a comin' which means moneys for me :D

She better be an actual character, instead of a person that only says 10 things and then resets like Kasumi and Zaeed.

Can't wait to play it.

But your cause is lost, Liara. Romance award goes to Tali.

I've been waiting for this to happen. I wonder how having romanced her will affect the interactions.

I can't wait for the Tali vs. Liara fight that should happen now!

Strangely enough, this is more or less exactly what I was going to say, including the "get it back from a friend" thing.

So yeah. I guess it's time to get my ME2 disk back from my friend before it comes out. Which reminds me, I forgot to get Overlord as well.

Gotta avoid the low post content...

After the events of ME2, the only DLC I'd want to see involving Ashley or Kaiden would be "Miranda and Jacob Repeatedly Shoot Ashley or Kaiden in the Face". It would be quite short, but it would also be quite satisfying. I don't like those two much anymore.

Still, hopefully this DLC will be good. It'll be cool to have Liara on the team again. I'm guessing this DLC will also take place after the end of ME2, given that Bioware said they were going to be focussing on pre-ME3 DLC from now on.

Hell yes. Cant wait for this. Any chance of her ending up in my new captians cabin?

Crap... wonder how she will feel... That my sheperd no longer likes her. 0.0

You should've seen my face when I read the headline. It was something along the lines of a very literal :D

Shit, how do I punctuate that? If I put a period after the emoticon, it looks like a chin mole or something. Or a horribly misplaced third eye. If I put it after the emoticon with a space separating them, my brain starts eating itself because it looks terrible. I can't put it before, because then the emoticon is no longer part of the sentence, and I'd prefer to just have a smooth integration because having a big sentence introducing (rather than merely utilizing) an emoticon looks ridiculous.

Back on topic, this should be very rewarding for everyone that read Mass Effect: Redemption. In other words, I'm going to be very rewarded. Hopefully. I need more coffee.

Seriously, did you not play the loyalty missions or something? It seems to me that no one in that universe has any idea what urgency means.

You mean 'gangsta's who are working with the collectors, and by extension the reapers? No, can't imagine why taking them down would be a good idea! :P

OT: Liara definitely needed a bigger role in the game, and I'm glad she's making a comeback in the DLC. Is she really a party member though? I thought Bioware said the team was full-up... still, looking forward to her expanded role, she was an interesting character in the first game, I didn't like seeing her shoved aside in the sequel.

W00t! Can't wait for this. I thought I'd have to wait for ME3 before I'd get to hang with Liara again. Good times.

It seems like a lot of games these days are having parts excised pre-sale and then sold back to the games' owners...
Why do I feel like I entered a car lot, just before the salesman ripped the back bumper off, where I was sold the car and then that salesman tried to sell that bumper to me?

My point: its greasy folks. Stop making googoo eyes.

Not gonna get this along with the Overlord DLC...yet...

I'm gonna wait until all of these tie-in DLCs are completed and just about 2 weeks before ME3 launches, when I can't stand to wait for it any longer, gonna download all of them together, play them through like hell and hopefully, just as I finish them all - ZING! Time to wrap the saga up!

Remember, this is the same Shepard that took out the time to figure out the case of a Volus missing credit chip.

Wewt! Glad to see shes making a return! Loved her chracter, and, wouldnt finding out more on her search for shepherd

You NEED to get Overlord. Trust me.

Aha! Knew it. Now if only they could announce a date. Oh wait, BioWare's not too keen on those anymore are they? Fine, but it better come out before school goes back in!

No, the Network is basically dead now. EA has a problem w/ giving DLC away for free apparently. Oh well, the Network was good while it lasted. Hopefully, this won't be too far beyond Overlord and Kasumi's price of $7.

This. It's sure somewhat suspicious audio files were inside they damn disc but you aren't 'unlocking' anything as they still have to add additional dialogue // Meshes // Textures // Environments, etcetc. You know the math.

But I kinda ditched her for Tali in all honesty. Most of the DLC for Mass effect 2 is cheap fodder.

*jumps up and down* Ha! I was right again! Can't wait for this to come out.

Wait, if Liara is joining the team, does that mean there's a chance that my Kai-Kai will return as well? *squeals at the though*

What? What weeks? Every DLC I've played, like any of the side missions that you did for the other guys doesn't last longer than a game-day, not even that long. Also you can do all that after you complete the final mission anyway, so I fail to see what's wrong with it :\

Not G. Ivingname:
Remember, this is the same Shepard that took out the time to figure out the case of a Volus missing credit chip.

Ohnoes, his/her precious 2 minutes?

Really don't see what all those complaints are, besides, it's a game and an RPG at that, side quests are nothing new, DA: O, Morrowind, Oblivion, KOTOR games, every single larger RPG always has these things and the main quest can always wait, is it really an argument that belongs at this point in gaming? :\

My only worry is that they will kill of an important figure in Mass Effect lore in a DLC. The Shadow Broker deserves to be at least a antagonist in ME3.

From what I can recall, Bioware has said that Kasumi was the last character that would be joining the team. Liara will probably only be there for the mission, then go back to being way too busy to save the galaxy.

Finally ME2 DLC that I actually want to buy!

I'm still betting that the "moral" choice in this DLC is what Liara does. I'm guessing the Shadow Broker either knows who Liara's "father" is and where she can be found, or the Shadow Broker is, in fact, Liara's other parent. The choice comes down to whether you convice Liara to kill and get her revenge, or give it up so she can finally learn about the other half of her family. After what happened with her mother, I can see them doing this. Anyone else agree?

Estoki:

Completely agree with that.
