Cyborg Arm Designed Only To Eat Potato Chips

Protip: a pair of plastic tweezers would probably work just as well.

Basically the same as Chop sticks, but less versatile.

And it has a button.

How long before the Japanese turn it into a sex toy is anybody's guess, but I'm putting my money on that they already have.

SKYNET!!!!!!!

SKYNET!!!!!!!

SKYNET!!!!!!!

CYBERMEN!!!!!!!

Tom Goldman:
This might actually be one of the greatest inventions of all time.

I am sorry, Mr Goldman, but the greatest invention of all time has already been made.

win! potato hand i wants one.
too bad when im playing games i have a drip in my arm for food purposes

Mechsoap:
BEHOLD a new method of lazyness!

At least is a step closer to an arm that can hit people!

Jonluw:
I am eating chips right now, and greasy finger are annoying.

Agreed. I think this invention is awesome.

If this was being sold in America they'd be making a hell of a lot more profits.

TheNamlessGuy:
Has anyone made a Death Note joke yet?
No?
Good:

Now, where was I...
Oh, right.

That'd be helpful when I play games and CAN'T TAKE MY HAD OFF THE CONTROLLER FOR ABOUT 2 SECONDS!
Greasy hands my ass.

Jesus this was all I thought about as I read this XD

You and me both, brother.

If this stops people from getting cheesie bits all over my controllers, then God bless you, good sir.

Cybernetic wrong.
Mechanical yes,
Launch product to a cybernetic attachment? Possible?

The ability to grasp in a manner so gentle NOT to break a chip?

Yeah this seems to be a item ignored by the medical techs...so they are trying to get the tech out. Knowing the amount of Vets who are using prostetic limbs this is kind of intresting.... other than that....

Well, even if there is no secondary reason some sucker will buy it

I'll stick with chopsticks.

I'm actually glad to read from this number of people saying they hate greasy fingers.
People always look at me as if I have mysophobia when I wash my hands after eating something using my hands.
I don't understand why so many prefer to skip that and (for instance) get right back to using their computer.
Good to know I'm not completely weird, or else at least I'm not alone. :)

This invention seems like it would make eating crisps/chips way too much of an effort to be worth even considering though.

Tom Goldman:

Anybody else feel like they just insulted us?

TheNamlessGuy:
Has anyone made a Death Note joke yet?
No?
Good:

You goddamn ninjas need Chuck Norris to kick your ass. Anyways while we are on the topic of Japan and chips, WTF. You think the Americans would've made this first.

Wait, what very little they showed of the chopsticks indicated they would work fine. Stupid ad showing a cheaper alternative.

Edit: It's also a bit asinine, and crazy.

duchaked:
lolll "As demonstrated by this noticeably not-Japanese guy on Japanese television"... I just keep a handy napkin/paper towel/hand towel around to wipe my fingers with if I'm eating at the computer

I figure that though the ad is Japanese (seemingly shown on a variety show), the product itself is imported from somewhere. Usually here in Japan, recycled foreign ads look like this.

I hate You. Damn Ninja.....

Anywho. Greasy Fingers ARE Annoying.....

Lullabye:
How long before the Japanese turn it into a sex toy is anybody's guess, but I'm putting my money on that they already have.

However, interestingly, it appears that a great many of the worlds leading sex toys are not from Japan. ;) Fleshlight, Realdoll, ect,

Why do I know these things ...? :O

I just hate it when my potato chips get 'clunched'...

TheNamlessGuy:

Thank you! I was wondering the exact same thing. "Ok. Where's the Light joke?"

Tom Goldman:
It uses the "No Broken Clutch System" (I'm guessing the video's "clunch" means "clutch") that will ensure it'll never break a chip no matter how hard you squeeze the trigger.

It's actually just clumsy translating. The first case "clunch" is supposed to be "crunch" (I guess referring to the chip itself). An error from the infamous R->L mistranslation problem that's even used in the name for poor Asian->English translations: Engrish.

The second time they use "Clunch" (Finger Easy Clunch System) it's just a full-on mistranslation, because the Katakana reads as "Kuriingu Shisutema" (which would be spoken as "Kring Shistem", more-or-less), and the spoken dialogue says "Easy Cleaning System" during that part (albeit with a heavy Japanese accent).

So yeah, it's "No Broken Crunch System", and "Finger Easy Cleaning System". I guess it's just a shame they didn't use the No Broken English System, mirite? ;D

Welcome to the club japan....ahh good to see other contries being influenced by our lazyness.

Cliff_m85:
OP is a liar. Arm doesn't eat potato chips, it only grabs them. I wanted to see an arm eat potato chips, you wasted my time.

image

This guy might be able to.

I am disapointed in the lack of robotic arm that actually ate and digested it

"you've might have"

Maybe the person doing the translations in the advert also wrote this article?

Mechsoap:
BEHOLD a new method of lazyness!

Indeed! So lazy, infact, that you even spell laziness wrong! :P

Anyway, while this invention is hilarious, I think the Japanese are better off just using chopsticks. They seemed to work just fine to me.

Plus, am I the only one who thinks that using a non-Japanese person in this commercial shows a lack of confidence on Takara Tomy's part? :P

MR.Spartacus:
Wait, what very little they showed of the chopsticks indicated they would work fine. Stupid ad showing a cheaper alternative.

Edit: It's also a bit asinine, and crazy.

Yeah, they didn't even bother breaking it with the chop sticks or at least even try to make it seem chop sticks are awkward. It might have appeal in non asian countries where no one knows how to use them I guess. Or you could just wash your hands.
And the title is very misleading, as another poster has said it's purely a mechanical device; nothing impressive about that at all.

And the winner of "terribly misleading news article" is...

Amazing! Give whoever invented this wondrous chip-aid a medal...no a diploma...no....100000$.
Long gone are the days of greasy fingers and annoying crumbs. All hail this fantastical invention! (not actually going to buy one)

MelasZepheos:
Cyborg means cybernetic organism, this is mechanical.

That little grievance out of the way, is anyone else remembering the extraordinarily surreal Japanese commercial Joey did in Friends? Because the commerical for this is even weirder. What the hell is that badly dubbed American doing there?

Anywho, I don't tend to eat when I game, so I don't need this, but it still looks like it might be handy, for something, maybe...

ah you pointed out my single grievance as well. :)

anyway i don't remember that commercial but i remember the commercial on the simpsons when homer wondered why he was on a japanese box. It turned out it was a soap box and the logo was a combination of a fish and light bulb that just happened to look like him.

TheNamlessGuy:
Has anyone made a Death Note joke yet?
No?
Good:

My first thoughts exactly. He'll love it!

Evilsanta:
Well...It is a step closer to a minigun mounted cyborg arm...

I'd say several steps...

OT: I want one...NOW! =D
