Molyneux Enjoys Appealing to People's Dark Thoughts With Milo

image

It might be impossible to do anything inappropriate with Lionhead's virtual boy Milo, but Peter Molyneux is pleased you thought of it anyway.

If you watched the Milo & Kate video from E3 last year and quirked an eyebrow at the idea of forming a close relationship with a young boy, don't worry, because you're not alone. In fact, Molyneux rather enjoys the fact that Milo makes people think dark thoughts, because he likes the idea of being contentious.

Molyneux says that what he looks for in drama and story is a certain uniqueness, and he thinks that it's good to be contentious every once in a while. "I actually love that," he said. "The idea of being so contentious that it makes people turn around and say, 'You can't do a story about a boy.' But, for me, doing that in that way is absolutely right."

He acknowledges that this approach does present challenges however, and will be one of the main obstacles to seeing some version of Milo & Kate released. But at the moment, that's still a long way off, as Molyneux says that he thinks of the game as a "very, very big tech demo" for Kinect, rather than a commercial product. It seems unlikely though, that Milo & Kate will actually have any contentious content in it if/when it's released. It's one thing for the game to quirk eyebrows conceptually, but there's not going to be anything even vaguely inappropriate in there, for fear of a PR backlash.

That's... interesting. Although it doesn't surprise me from Peter Molyneux...

me either, and thats why the gaming industry finds him so fascinating

He is like Aquaman from The brave and the bold.
He is so campy, It'S Awesome.

My respect for him gone up 5 points, so the score is 21 approval points.

Eh, no way to be sure if he decided to start saying this only after every other pervert expressed these dark thoughts in a sense of "Yes, it was my idea all along." or if he genuinely did factor it in that sort of manipulative manner.

Given the fact that his PR enthusiasm is pretty much immaculately tailor-made to appeal to general audiences while going so over the top that you can't help but wonder if the guy's not a bit touched in the head, the latter possibility doesn't seem that improbable to me honestly.

Now there's a statement I can agree with.

Say contentious one more time... i dare you.

This just in! Molyneux supports doing depraved and horrible things to his child!

what...? Well its true... Milos about the closest thing we've seen to his kid...

Meh, he doesn't have to worry about the lack of contentiousness in his game, a Japanese developer will make a game with Kinect with the whole purpose of being contentious. I've heard of an japanese porn game that uses a webcam for a similar effect to the Kinect.

So... Molyneux finds it amusing that people link his idea to pedophilia, and thinks it's actually a good thing?

Am I the only one that's worried terrified by this?

huh I was thinking the exact same thing when I read the article unless they pull the "they're older than they look" excuse cause everyone knows if you say that then it's a-ok

Heh...ill give him points for being honest...I wonder if stuff like 'that' would ever be developed >_>

You ninja.

Here's a easier way to watch the video

OT: I love Molyneux so much.

Again, another example of Peter Molyneux being Peter Molyneux...

just wait some fellow will marry one of them

EDIT: Sorry for the double post. Slow internet connection is slow.

Why the hell does he talk about Milo so much when he keeps saying that they won't release him as a game.

Make me able to tear this Milo apart and i will buy a 360 finally.

Haha, cheers. I'm always forgetting how to show YouTube format on this site.

Uhh... His statement made me uneasy about this Milo n Kate thing...

...There is a very real chance that Peter Molyneux is going to use ludicrous promises and sadistic reasoning to take over the world.

I can't wait for some Japanese studio to release a date-sim game with 18 year old girls that look like they are 13 (they always do in J-games). Hmm maybe a blow-up doll controller could be made and sold illegally on the internet xD

Honestly, I hope not. The next thing he makes better not be like that SNK DS game. But with a boy instead.

A blow-up doll controller... Interesting...

*phones patent department*

Part of the trouble with Molyneux is that he makes these rash statements.

Never say "You can't" to the darker corners of the Internet. Because they will. And what has been seen cannot be unseen.

The question is whether Peter Molyneux's an attention-grabbing media strumpet, guano loco, or both. Probably that second or third one.

Funny stuff, Peter likes to make products that make people go "WHY".
Myself, I'd only use a Lara Croft simulator "inappropriately", though the way she acts, it might not be.

my mental image of Peter Molyneux is still his floating head with pure white eyes...

I can just see a combination of Milo and the rubbing/petting action of Kinectimals now...

No, Peter. There are people, like me.

We are like the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park.

We will find a way.

LOL Zero Punctuation

I like Peter Molyneux and doing shit like this makes me like him even more. because he's not scared to speak his mind some times he hasn't fulfill all his promises but still he's a really interesting fellow.

Again, I just don't see why anyone listens to this windbag.

And for the record, unless the Kinnect can detect when someone removes their pants, there's plenty of inappropriate things people can do with creepy virtual children. To me this is sort of like a video game equivalent of following a child around behind some bushes.

I would pay for an m rated version of this game if it let me kill an innocent child in anyway i see fit.

If thats the 1st thing out of my mouth then i have some serious issues.

Personally, if they could develop such technology that molesting Milo would illicit any where near an appropriate response (WTF??! uh...I'm going inside....), I would buy it strictly on principle. But, like all such initiatives, Milo's world isn't going to be believable unless you really play along.

And where's the fun in that?
