The Elder Scrolls V would be awesome.
Sounds great! I love Bethesda. By the way, a little typo at the end there. :)
| |
the new elder scroll game better come out soon or else
Agreed, a single player one at that. I can't see how the rumoured MMO would work and I'd be annoyed if that is the project. Then again I was annoyed when The Old Republic was announced instead of KOTOR 3, but now I'm quite looking forward too it. We'll see.
cant see it being fallout 4 with new vegas out this year, one of these new game has to be Elder Scrolls 5, its what 4 or 5 years since ES4
Elder Scrolls 5 and Fallout 4? Oh shi-
I note how he said "Same engine as Fallout 3." Something tells me it's Fallout. If not, Edler Scrolls now has Crossbows, or something. Calumon: We only played Oblivion, and... umm... I didn't like it too much.
Anything by Bethesda that uses the Fallout and Oblivion engine is a win in my books! I need new games...
FO3 And Oblivion were based on the same engine. It better be heavily modified, otherwise I'll be pissed off. Really pissed off. And it hopefully is TESV, and neither are FO4. I do like Fallout, but New Vegas is coming out and it seems like a bit much.
One of them has to be TES 5, it just has to be! I logged over 300 hours on the PS3 version of oblivion alone, and I have perfect gamerscore on it for the 360. You might say I got into it... or it got into me. In any case there's only one game I love more.
It won't be that, nothing could possibly ever be that truly, groin grabbingly awesome.
Waitwaitwait... Bethesda made Wet? Fallout 3 and Wet were made by the same people? I am having trouble processing this information.
i think an elder scrolls MMORPG is just what an MMORPG should be. Being able to upgrade anything would be really fun. O.K. i kind of want to have my super fast high jumping ranged specialist from oblivion fighting people, but still, i think if they could balance it, it would be REALLY fun, also likely the only hope against WoW.
I didn't like Oblivion's failure of an immersion factor and quite honestly the whole game became pretty repetitive for me once I found out all the scenery was the same, all the voices were the same and melee combat was just plain boring. Fallout 3 did a better job of making the scenarios feel more engaging, but the premise for both games as far as storytelling goes just seemed so fragile to me. "You are the chosen one the emperor selected in his homoerotic dreams, (even though you're a convict) so you must save the world ending in an epic dragon fight," and "You lost your dad," both seemed like weak plots to me. The saving grace of both games being that you can do whatever you want in them--something that stands on fairly loose soil when you've beaten the quests and gotten the best gear. In any case, I hope both sequels are better than their predecessors, as the list of games worth playing anymore is shrinking by the day.
Exactly why I was noting that. Calumon: Exactly why I was asleep.
Oblivion made me a big RPG fan. Sure, it wasn't that good after I had played some better games, but it used to be my favorite game by far. I'm hoping for an Elder Scrolls 5 and I'm hoping it will be as ridiculously time consuming as Oblivion (I put maybe 150 hours into that game).
They published it, Artificial Mind and Movement developed it. OT: I hope it's Elder Scrolls V, but I have a pessimistic feeling it won't be.
If you want a sand box game (and I do) I think you have to be prepared to deal with a loose / minimal main story line. If it's a tightly scripted engaging must do main story arc all that sandbox is going to be wasted... Personally I'd be happy with a sand box game with a number of large quests embedded (and more added by dlc / add on packs) and no game ending main story. Well, really happy if they dropped the scaling of encounters to match your level (which makes levelling up a pointless thing), low level and high level adventures / areas work fine for that.
"Based on the Fallout 3 engine", wasn'tthat heavily based on the Oblivion engine? Anyway, I am excited to see what there is to announce. It would be amazing if they could do another H.P. Lovecraft adaptation, but I won't get my hopes up.
I hope so much that its Elder Scrolls 5. Oblivion is my favourite RPG of all time, I do not even care about the flaws (Which are many). I still play it quite alot to this day and I dont even have mods for it.
ES:V please! And seeing that the engine's modified with more animations and whatnot... I'm psyched!
I like the idea of the modified F3 engine (which was built on the Obsidian engine). It'll save time from making a new complicated graphics engine and allow them to focus on making the game part of the game. Isn't that we used to do in the days of the Quake 2 and Unreal engine? Just keep tweaking an original system until we maxed it out so we wouldn't waste development time and money making new shiny engines for one game?
I think a mindset like that would only lower the expectations for games like Oblivion and Fallout. If I'm going to play for hours like Bethesda wants me to, why not give me a story halfway decent? I don't expect the work of Tolkien or Lovecraft, but something at least mildly interesting is something I would enjoy. Oblivion especially falls into the "soggy dog feces" bin as far as story goes. It was boring and I hated it--almost as if when the developers got tired of making the first Oblivion gate they decided they would copy and paste an equally uninteresting scenery in the other ones we'd have to take down. It felt like I was playing through a very bad novel that ended with me standing by and watching some flaming dragon of fiery flame take on the baddie. Since the rest of the storyline put my mind into hibernate mode it was really just a "What the fuck?" moment for me, since there had been no indication of any dragon, that Martin was a character from Eragon or that it would end that way. Quests are fun for me if there's some sort of objective I'm heading for and if they're well-written--if I feel more immersed into the game. If I get some cool item at the end of the quest, or some new spell or ability, and if the quest itself makes me interested. For example, the Dark Brotherhood quests or the one concerning Hackdirt. But for a large number of other ones, it was, for me at least just the generic "Walk here kill this, talk to my cousin Douglas and come back to me,". The same stuff I stopped playing World of Warcraft for.
These are the kind of people I wouldn't mind seeing a new direction from. But if they are going after another Elder Scrolls, thats not such a bad thing either.
A part of me want to see some multiplayer action in elder scrolls, not as in an MMO, but being able to play co-op with a friend or two. That, and bigger baddies. I've always wanted to tackle BIG enemies in TES.
Sounds great, whatever it is. Hopefully a roleplaying game I can immerse myself into... if that's a grammatically correct sentence.
I'm getting ready to sacrifice half a year of my lifes blood already.
If that's Elder Scrolls V...
You know, I have yet to buy FO3. I'm going to get it in a month or so,(GotY edition, naturally) and the comparison between it and Oblivion will be interesting to see. I hope this new project is a brand new IP, but that never happens as much as I would like it to. :(
Or I could just have TESV, with a rich, massive world to explore.
*crosses fingers* Elder Scrolls V... Elder Scrolls V... Please be Elder Scrolls V...
Please be TESV. That would be pretty awesome.
if it isn't a new Elder Scrolls Besthesda just loves to mess with us.
Although I dont want to be too hopeful for TESV, I already got dissapointed with Irrational games announcement of Bioshock III, I really wanted a system shock sequel.

Bethesda Working on Two Games at Once, Says Producer
Bethesda's Todd Howard says that the studio will be unveiling its new game soon, and has already begun work on its next project.
While there's been plenty of activity on the Bethesda radar recently in terms of acquisitions and publishing duties, when it comes to the games that Bethesda itself is making, it's been distinctly quieter.
But executive producer Todd Howard says that's all about to change however, and Bethesda's current game - believed to be a new Elder Scrolls title - is nearly ready to be announced. He said that the game was pretty fair into production, but that he didn't want to make predictions about the announcement date in case it got changed. He did say though, that once the game was announced it would the shortest time between announcement and release of any Bethesda game ever.
He said it was based on the same engine as Fallout 3, but that significant modifications had been made, and that players would "almost feel like [they had] a new console" when they saw it. Howard added that players should expect more in terms of characters and animation, as Bethesda had spent a lot of time on both technology and talent in those areas.
Howard also said that work was underway on the game that would follow Bethesda's current project, and that he spent the majority of his time working on the design for that. He added that it wasn't uncommon for projects to overlap at the studio, saying that Oblivion, Fallout 3 and the new project had all overlapped each other. But what could this new design be?
