Motion-Controlled Wizard Duels Come to Xbox Harry Potter

Harry Potter fans can fling spells and cast shields in an exclusive Kinect-powered challenge mode for the Xbox version of Deathly Hallows.

Although Wii owners are used to motion controls in their Harry Potter games, players on other consoles have had to make due with thumb sticks. This time around, it seems that Xbox 360 owners will get a taste of the hand-waving action. During its press conference today at the Gamescom convention, EA brought James and Oliver Phelps - who play the Weasley twins in the Harry Potter films - on stage to demonstrate an exclusive Kinect-powered dueling mode for the Xbox 360 version of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1.

This challenge mode, which can be played alone or with a friend, is similar to an on-rails shooter. Players automatically move from location to location, dueling with rival mages along the way. Combat is powered by the player's movements - moving your arms to match a specified pattern might fling a fireball while casting your palm forward will generate a temporary forcefield.

As you rack up points defeating these wizards, your scores will be uploaded to Xbox Live leaderboards.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1 will hit stores this November for the PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii and DS.

I'm intrigued...slightly, still need to see more information.

Ah but it looked so terrible...

Half of their motions weren't tracking and there was next to no variety in spells.

And how the hell do you aim? Seriously... it looks bad.

It seems this is a concept that would work better on the "move" than the kinect, kinect seems to be more eye-toy game orientated rather than wii.

Yay, more arm waving...next!

Oh, joy...I can see all the HArry Potter fans going mad for the geuine experience...still feels likc gimmick country

Gears of Wand ftw

I agree, this would fit the Move far better than the Kinect.

nice to know that they are finding new ways of making you looking like a complete spastic/twat (you get the picture) with motion technology, I wont be surprised if people played this with the kinect in secret unless of course you are a five year old.

It does work better on move, in a game called sorcery. I'm trying to like kinect but the video was pretty bad. Sorcery does look amazing though.

So will you be able to control which spell is cast by voice? No? So it will be slower than using a controller? Wow, how exciting!

It's another game on rails.
Cheers! :P

Hmmmm a movie tie-in with a tacked on motion control section comming in-house from EA? Those poor developers.... Needless to say i fuklly expect this to gargle balls. The game is just so.... ugly.
