BioWare Details Lair of the Shadowbroker

image

Lair of the Shadowbroker, the new DLC for Mass Effect 2, will be released next month, adding new research, achievements and maybe even a chance to put the famous Shepard moves on the hottie biottie.

Rumors of Liara-centric DLC for Mass Effect 2 first bobbed to the surface back in April and were confirmed in July, when BioWare announced that Lair of the Shadowbroker would give players the chance to have not just one, but two blue-skinned sexpots living aboard the Normandy. That moment is now close at hand, as the studio revealed today that the new expansion is slated for release early next month.

Liara T'Soni is hot on the heels of the elusive Shadow Broker, determined to recover the man he kidnapped - and the Shadow Broker's agents are just as determined to stop her, no matter what the cost. The new DLC will take players from the "luxurious heights of Illium to the Shadow Broker's own secret lair" and will add the Shadow Broker intel center, new research options, five new achievements and "the chance to continue a relationship with Liara."

I suppose it's possible that "continuing a relationship" could simply refer to her return to the crew, but I think it's safe to assume that there's more of a "come upstairs to Chez Shepard" angle to it. Not that I'm being critical, of course. After all, I hooked up with a space chick who for all I know has a face like a jaundiced Predator.

For the record, I have no idea why "Shadowbroker" is one word in the DLC title and two words everywhere else, but that's how it is. Lair of the Shadowbroker is scheduled to come out on September 7 at a cost of 800 Microsoft or BioWare Points.

Must... Not... Buy ... Any more ME2 DLC...

YES! Finally a release date. Been looking forward to this DLC ever since they found those audio files way back when. I'm tired of this weapon and armor DLC that should have came free through the Cerberus Network...friggin greedy EA... grumble grumble..

Ye I am not seeing the point of these DLC with some weps and armor, should atleast be free, only using the collector armor/wep anyway...

Looking forward to this though.

Good good, not that long to wait now. Hopefully, this will be a fairly meaty package, seeing that it weighs in at 800 MS points. The thought of continuing a relationship with Liara sounds neat, I just wonder what Ms T'Soni will think of my Shepards antics with Thane.

On a somewhat shameful side note, the armour Liara is wearing in that screenie up there does an excellent job of accentuating her curves...

*dies*

*Girlish Squeal* *cough awkward;y* Right...anyway. I'm quite excited for this DLC, havin played through Overlord and being absolutely floored as to how well Bioware's DLC has improved I have to say I'm looking forward to this one

Kinda wish they would make an expansion ME2 like they did for Dragon Age. But as long as this DLC isn't only 2 hours long, than I will be more than happy to pay for it.

How is Overlord? I've bought it but it has yet to download fully onto my Xbox 360.

I also bought Monkey Island 1 & 2 as well... That's probably why it's so slow at downloading.

if "Overlord" and "Stolen Memories" are any indication of quality, this will be awesome. Must admit the Shadowbroker/Shadow Broker thing is giving me an aneurysm, though.

First of all I don't want to spoil anything but the ending images in some regard actually made me retch a little, its emotionally disturbing, at least it was to me. Very well done piece in my opinion, but very rage inducing on Insanity difficulty.

Sorry about the non-quote PMing thing, but I'm at work and the quote button doesn't work so hope you see this

Finally the DLC that will get me to replay the game again. And possibly replaying ME1 first.

And I'll get/play all the other DLC I've missed as well.

But... this is released at an inconvenient date for me, what with Metroid: Other M, so it might be a while before I get it.

Finally some hints of release date! Am myself dying to play this, funny that the only game I look forward this year besides New Vegas is a DLC.

If I have some lying around, I might spend some Microsoft points.

Finall a DLC I am intrested in for the game! I cannot wait! Loved her in first game so cant wat for her action!

It seems that we have final release, my friend is going to be a very happy fanboy.

I wonder if you can actually interact with her if she's a squad member. The whole activate object to have Zaeed/Kasumi talk mechanic is pretty lame.

Goddammit Bioware. Stop churning out shitty DLC. Mass Effect 2 was not very good. Pumping out a metric fucktonne of half assed DLC with boring, extremely tightly scripted additional characters will not make it better.

Andy Chalk:
Liara T'Soni is hot

Yes, yes she is.

*goes off to buy DLC*

Looking forward to this one atleast.

As awesome as all that sounds, I can't help but think 800 POINTS?! Are you crazy?!
Ahem. As a matter of interest, will the DLC actions (mainly thinking of this one) carry over to ME3 do people think?

So now I can romance Liara in ME2 as well? Gee, this is a bit awkward. Sorry Liara, but, er, you just seemed a bit fixated on your whole "catch the Shadow Broker" quest, and then we sort of drifted apart and then me and Tali kinda had a thing. So . . . I'll call you some time, OK? See you around, got a galaxy to save and all that.

It is my duty as a born-again BioWare fanboy to buy this, so I'm happy to see that it actually looks really promising. Hopefully this might result in a catfight as well as some Shadow Broker-related intrigue. Wasn't expecting it out quite so soon either. Huzzah! Only downside is that I'll have to play through ME2 again to make a new canonical Shepard. Oh no.

Daemascus:

Do eet. I have all of it. I feel no shame.

Good game or not, you people are paying a crap ton for all those DLCs -.-
I don't get how it can be satisfying to buy extra content when you barely get a few hours out of it and the moment you start enjoying it, it's over.

If I can indeed proclaim a wireless adapter then I might see if I can download this. I admit though I am not much of a Liara fan (I prefer myself some o' that Gunnery Chief Williams) but this still sounds essential and I'd rather play this out properly then I would just have a crummy default ending be added to Mass Effect 3 because I didn't play it.

Still, with all this going on I have to ask... Bioware.... what about Ashley/Kaiden?
Every single other character has gotten attention by this point now, I mean I know I'm in a minority when it comes to these things but surely some kind of DLC or, hell, even some attention towards the character would help cheer me up a little. Because right now it feels like my favorite character has been booted out of the game.

Ah well, still it's good news for the Liara fans and I can at least be happy for them. So to all the Liara fans out there, here's hoping for the best.

Im so glad im not the only one who felt the Predator vibe off her. Dont get me wrong i still chose her but i keep thinking that Tila looks like this:
face Pictures, Images and Photos

Too bad I ditched her for Tali. She was my first choice in ME1. That failed so I went for the other alien race. Sorry, TALI ALL DA WAY!

Hilariously awkward love triangle moment in the middle of a firefight here I come!

WWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNTTT!

And damn you BioWare! Us Kaidan (and to a lesser extent Ash) supporters still have to wait! X[

I better get my hard drive back. And a Microsoft Points card. (still need to get Overlord)

Do you really think that Shep would look at Tali's face with loving satisfaction if she looked like that or something else that equally terrifying/hideous?

Gosh Liara annoys the everloving s**t out of me, but I'm madly in love with mass effect and bioware, so no doubt I will get this.

*Prays for a Kaiden/Ashley DLC very soon*

Is it just me or does anyone else find the title: "Lair of the Shadowbroker" hilarious.

I've been waiting for this one. I'm still betting the Shadow Broker is connected to Liara's "father" in some way. Hopefully, this will lay that belief to rest or prove it correct.

Bioware, if I might make a suggestion? INCREASE THE LEVEL CAP! Honestly, I'm maxing out my level before I'm even done with the main story, so I find it hard to do anything after that.

Daemascus:

Good luck with that. You know you want to...

Hey Shep didnt choose to do her, the player did knowning full well they didnt know what her face looks like.

I actually hope that this DLC is unlocked only AFTER you have completed the main quest. Bioware said they wanted their DLC to bridge the gap between ME2 and ME3, so why not give players an incentive to keep going after defeating the Collectors?

It would be really cool to see all these little mini episodes playing out in the aftermath of the main storyline.

That definitely makes sense, especially since when you run into her during the main story she explicitly tells you she can't join you yet. I think it would flow better, story-wise, if it happened after you're done with the Collectors.

Well, now I have to go back to ME1 because I don't remember which of my ME2 characters has that relationship with Liara...
