Fan Remakes World of Warcraft in StarCraft

As it turns out, the StarCraft II map editor is so powerful, it can make Blizzard's other games, too.

Back when the StarCraft II Galaxy Editor was first released, a fan created a MarioKart-type game after barely a day. That really should have clued us in to how versatile the thing was. Now, you have custom maps of all shapes and sizes, from Tetris to rail shooters to ... WoW?

Yep, as you can see above, at least one gamer is trying to cross the streams of online gaming by mixing Blizzard's megapopular MMOG with its megapopular RTS. I'm pretty sure this violates at least two natural laws, but I'm not clear on which ones they are, exactly.

Okay, I may have been exaggerating a little bit. This isn't actually WoW - there's no real gameplay to speak of. It's just somebody running around with an Alexstrasza model in a manner - and a world - highly reminiscent of Blizzard's online monstrosity. What's striking is how much it actually manages to look like WoW, albeit with some better graphics (and worse performance).

But man, just think of the potential here. What if someday, you could log into StarCraft II and start playing WoW or Diablo III - without ever leaving StarCraft?

Truly, it's enough to make shivers run up one's spine.

He loves both WoW and Starcraft?
How does he have time to do anything, let alone anything like this?

God this makes me want a proper graphical update to WoW, looks soooo good, close to Aion levels minus the char detail.

Do you realize how much time Nerds have? UNLIMITED TIME! Real life? Phfff.

I've seen a lot of custom maps, large projects like these would never work, the gameplay simply doesn't work.

That said, I've seen an FPS made with the editor (it was AWFUL, but technically functional)

None of it will ever be practical, but it IS very interesting, and proves that the creator tool is unbelievably powerful.

This is pretty much my only motivation for buying Starcraft- There are some awesome things being done with the editor.

Sadly, it doesn't motivate me to buy it more than the £40 price tag puts me off.

Quite a beautiful level, but I don't expect to see anything spectacular gameplay-wise from the SC2 Editor for a while still. It'll probably get there, but it doesn't seem the community has been able to utilize it fully yet.

That looks pretty nice, but gameplay-wise, WoW was already recreated in Warcraft III. I remember playing as a Pandaren Brewmaster and not having a clue what I was doing.

That looks like it took a fair bit of work. Kinda confuses me how something like that is possible with just a freakin' editor though. >.>

Someone give this man a medal. And make it in the form of a cookie.

Impressive. While I've never played Starcraft, I can definitely say that WoW is a massive undertaking to be remade in Starcraft II like that. It's more than likely a labor of love. (Heh, aliterations...)

Creative and stylish, I like it.

Haha! Couldnt help but giggle at that

OT: Awesome vid, great work none the less!

This is why I am a PC gamer.
So awesome. But it wont be functional in the long run.

Already done on warcraft 3, just not as nice looking and is limited to 4mb :P

Now someone make a Warcraft 4, or so help me god....

Think you going to be waiting for a while =(. Blizzard has already hinted that they have some new ip that they are working on, and lets be realistic we're still waiting on D3. Unfortunately you can't rush greatness.

I might not be able to rush greatness, but that doesn't mean I cant rage on the internet and send death threats to the studio :D

maybe that is what cataclysm will look like

That project would look really good on an application to Blizzard. It was very nicely done.

godly

just need to add an instanced mmo engine like guild wars

If they made it any more flexible, you could boot your computer with StarCraft 2 and run Windows in it.

How is it surprising that it looks so much like wow, they are based on the same tech, and the same artists create both worlds?

From a dedication standpoint, I'm impressed, but I don't see how it looks much better than Wow itself (which in my opinion is a terrible looking game, but let's stick to facts). They both pull the cartoon look off, but how exactly is this better looking.

Again though, props to the guy who took the time to do this. This is the kind of thing you put on a resume for a world building job in the industry. His attention to detail and willingness to work hard on a world is displayed perfectly here.

I don't know how to put this in facts but if you can't see the difference between that and wow...idk have your eyes checked or pay attention to the details I suppose. That to me and I would assume most is very clearly better looking by a long shot.

I feel the same way at times, waiting 8 years for sequels is a long hard wait. It's a love hate thing with blizzard hehe

Feel the power of the Nerds!

-cough- Blizzard secret project is World of Warcraft 2 made with the Starcraft 2 engine...

-Just Sayin-

Quite impressive. And I'm probably gonna sound like a newb for asking this, but does anyone know where that music is from?

Anyone remember completing Warcraft 3 and being treated to a few rudimentary Starcraft 2 models? I'm just waiting for the "Warcraft 4" mod using the Starcraft 2 engine. Or even WC3, that could be fun.

Well,Bethesda made Fallout 3 like that and it was quite succesful...

The only thing that surprises me about this is that they finished it before the mod community ported Brood War to SC2.

Damn! That looks beter than WoW. I guess thats what 5 years of graphical improvements can do.

God-Damnit, you cut heroin with something like baking soda, not freaking crack cocaine.

actually there's more truth to what you're saying then you probably mean.

it wasn't just a world of warcraft mod for warcraft 3, world of warcraft itself was made with an updated warcraft 3 engine.

Yeah, the engine is powerful, but the mods people will make for the engine itself will be greater. And that will probably let these technical pieces actually function well.

i'd rather not see world of starcraft. I loved the RTS from blizzard even going as far to say wc3 and sc for me are on the same pedestal for me, but when wow came it broke my love for warcraft a fair bit. some things just didn't make sense (albeit maybe now they do but i haven't gotten to reading all the lore out there now)

WoW is something of the death of Wc RTS and if WoSC (world of SC) follows that trend....sigh

would be interesting if in the middle of RTS action, you could turn it into FPS from the perspective of your own unit
