Uuh. And to think I was foolish enough to believe they were referring to it's quality.
Same thing here. Silly me - this is Activision we're talking about.
Lol people are getting sick of the CoD series. Trust me look at how many people play MW2 on PC. Hardly 10k on any time I check. It could change with dedicated servers, but when trying to compare this game to other FPSs on PC you fall short of Battlefield Series, and Half Life, TF2, and CSS. The game is too arcade style and leaves people without the feel of accomplishment.
Break the MW2 hype? never! it made chicks game!
Meh, I ain't gonna get it. I'll stick with TF2 for online playing until TF3.
I'm no longer disappointed in Activision, but in myself because I actually believe they were going to improve.
Lets face it people we all liked Mw2 for the time being, only when it got boring we began to hate the game and that hate turned into a hype... OT: Isn't this a bit logic that a game hasn't peaked before its release?
Watch, they'll consider it a failure for failing to beat MW2's record. Even though it'll turn a profit, they'll be disappointed.
MW2 was the biggest selling game ever because MW1 was so good. Everyone thought "Holy shit the sequel to the best shooter ever" and bought it and told their friends to buy it. Now everyone is thinking "Wow MW2 was a pretty big disappointment, especially the campaign, maybe I'll give that Medal of Honor thing a try". They aren't breaking any records. Even if they deserve to and Black Ops is the greatest game of all time, they won't. Too many people have a bitter aftertaste lingering in their mouths after MW2.
that figure sounds about as likely as Metal gear solid 4: 'Gameplay edition' being released.
A short campaign and a hacked multiplayer, why are we buying these games again?
my prediction is that black ops will sell very very well but not as well as MW2 because people who want a new shooter will likely choose between Black ops and Halo Reach. Where MW2 came out with no competition in sight Black ops has allot. Also Black opps will be regarded as Treyarch's best Cod game and while not as good as Cod 4 it will be a little bit better than MW2
im personally not getting it. at least not on pc. my brothers will probably get a copy, but thats 1 compared to the 3 we got of modern warfare 2.
I wonder if Activision realizes that profit isn't a very good motivator for creative work. For mechanical type stuff, yeah, but when it's the sole motivator for creative stuff the work tends to be a lot shoddier.
Ditto. So you love Valve time too, eh?
I don't know if that's supposed to be a jab at CoD or a MGS4.
I doubt it will, after the debaucle which happened before, and now...with people in the know...keep dreaming
I'm pretty sure it won't break MW2 records, nor will the next few COD-s.
Almost everybody I know bought MW2. People who weren't gamers bought MW2. Black Ops can't compete. And I thought this post was about the quality of the games, not sales.......
No, it's only TF2, it's the only game I play online these days.
Not only has it peaked, but activision is rubbing it's proverbial dick raw.
Heh, that's all we play since Valve will finish TF2 sometime Eventually
I'm pretty sure it has peaked. After the huge disaster that was MW2, Black Ops is hardly being talked or written about at all and as far as I can see there's no hype.
What a bunch of hypocrite twats! The first thing they said was that they "didn't expect Black Ops to Outsell MW2." I can't believe they have the guts to lie in our faces...
"Yeah; Modern Warfare 2 sold well enough, but we haven't made enough money. We aim to own all the banks in Switzerland."
I don't think they will. I think it's just a project they give to the new guys to get them in the swing of things. OT: I know it won't, but I'd really like to see it fail. Then again, I'd also like to see Bobby K fall, burning from his ivory tower. Like Dane Vogel, but more of a cunt.
They'll rape the name "Call of Duty". They wont stop earlier.
Because the engine and pretty graphics makes it so tempting. OT: I doubt it will happen. Noone will ever forgive the sprint knifing and sniping 8 year olds of Modern Warfare 2. I'm buying it, just that the PC version is hopefullly filled with less douches then Modern Warfare 2.
If by 'peaked' they mean 'become a dried up raped corpse of it's former self', then I'd agree with them. But in a year or two once they have released Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 87: Future Warfare: Space Warfare 18: Captain Price Hero 5: Legends of War, it will undoubtedly have 'peaked'.
Mabey but then again, remember Reach Activision.
Only me who thinks this game looks a little too much like MW2? If you place a picture side by side, I can hardly tell the difference.
There is a lot of CoD and Activision hate going on (justified IMO) so not sure if it will sell. On the other hand, there is a lot of people who just want to shoot shit and CoD is a prime example of a popular game where you shoot shit. Hard to tell at this point. I'm not buying it.
They can claim a lot, but just because they do, it means they're probably wrong about it.
Yes it has, Activision. It was over hyped and word of mouth will lower this one's sales. Don't be so pretentious. *EDIT* Also, is it just me or is the stock on that picture clipping into his shoulder?

Activision Claims Call of Duty Hasn't Peaked Yet
Call of Duty's European general manager says that Activision's goal with Call of Duty: Black Ops is to break the record it set by its predecessor.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 exploded into the record books last year, selling nearly five million copies on its first day and becoming the biggest media release in history. Equaling something so momentous would be an incredible feat, but Michaël Sportouch, Activision's European general manager, thinks that Black Ops might just be able to do it.
Sportouch said that the resources that Activision had invested in both the making and marketing of Black Ops was the highest of any title the publisher had ever made, which had resulted in a fantastic game and a fantastic campaign. He added that Black Ops would be available on more platforms than Modern Warfare 2, and would be able to take advantage of a higher install base on the Xbox 360 and PS3.
But despite the investment and the favorable conditions, Sportouch hadn't allowed himself to become over-confident, and said that it wouldn't be easy to beat Modern Warfare 2's record. He added that there were a lot of high-profile games - games such as Medal of Honor, Gran Turismo 5 and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood - that would be competing with Black Ops for consumers' money.
It's certainly not impossible that Black Ops could outsell MW2, but many analysts don't think it actually will, and have predicted sales of between ten and twelve million copies. While those are excellent figures, they're just over half of what Modern Warfare 2 has sold to date. Whatever happens, we're going to have to wait until the game is released on November 9th to know for sure.
