How Plants vs. Zombies Could Save The Military-Industrial Complex

If you want to protect sensitive military secrets, start by keeping zombies off your lawn.

What? Is that the whole news post?

EDIT: To avoid confusion it should be noted when I commented, only the first sentence was actually in the post.

Oh just 'defense in depth' and cyber security? I thought it was gunna be something about weaponizing the Venus Fly Trap :(

Icecoldcynic:

What more are you after?

I think it's a great analogy. They should use it in movies where the heroic hacker has to break into secret files with waves of "Cyber-Zombies".

pvz will take over the world it seems if the defense department is using it. maybe we can get the taliban to play it instead of moh or cod.

I cant beleive PVZ and the sercurity of the US military are related.

In before people stating that they won't support Popcap because of this.

Wow. Ummm...I don't know if this is weird or anything, but I just came from reading the Critical Miss comic and then to this one and I read "Rick Doten" as "Rotten Dick". Yeah...Amazing what the mind does.

And this is...very interesting. I don't know if I like the comparison, but its definitely interesting to hear it put this way.

You know what? I like this. Taking a well-known idea (the gameplay mechanic of Plants vs. Zombies) and applying it to a field that very few people would normally understand (network security) is a great thing, generally furthering public knowledge of a given subject.

It also really makes me want to play Plants vs. Zombies.

They're just mad that they didnt come up with Potato Landmines first..

Great analogy, right on the money as far as I know about data-security.

Yeah, Doten. Because bombs and advanced weapons are "cool".

On a lighter note, let's see the detractors say games are worthless after hearing about this!

I kind of hoped they would realise certain PvsZ weapons...
(and I've been ninja'd, mmh)

Still, sounds like a good idea. Anything using PvsZ is a good idea. Always.

There goes all forms of productivity if the DOD get their hands on PVZ XD

InterAirplay:
Yeah, Doten. Because bombs and advanced weapons are "cool".

On a lighter note, let's see the detractors say games are worthless after hearing about this!

A lot of people think they are, yes.

You guys are missing the big picture. Its obvious what the military is doing. They are secretly trying to build a plant army for covert missions because after all who could suspect a cherry to be harmful.

See, video games are saving the United States of America.

I thought the exact same thing, but I didn't read CM yet. I also saw it as Dick Roten...

OT: And this is actually really cool. It seems like a great analogy, but I kinda have to take it at face value. Hopefully this guy knows what he's talking about and, since he works at Lockheed, I assume he does.

Hyuk hyuk hyuk.... reading this article put a smile on my face after a LAME day.

Well that was an interesting analogy. I guess that's pretty cool.

Although I'm scared by some of the zombies that were mentioned in the article. Digger zombies? Balloon supended zombies? I'm very worried about them now. Must go play PvZ to protect my house...

A... different story than I would have expected to see today.

It's such a shame the PC version is now a broken game with no love for it's players.

Ok, when is this game going to start curing cancer?

I see now, they are wanting to make solar powered defences :)
And in this analogy who or what would crazy dave be?

To be honest I think that this is a good analogy and I like it, glad to see a positive post about games and not one about a killer who once tripped over a gamecube and them trying to say thats what made him a killer. (I made that one up but it's probably out there somewhere :D )

I guess that is one way to look at PvZ.

I must say I find advanced weapons and bombs to be "Cool". :P I also find them to be fascinating, starting from the prototype phase all the way to a working model.

huh?... did you even read the article/

loose lips sink ships

tower defense games save state secrets...

crap, rhyme help please?

The mechanics and designs my be fascinating, and they may be cool within, say, films and games, but this guy kind of referred to real life weapons which will undoubtedly be used to slaughter people. Not to be a hippie or anything, but that's not exactly "cool".

I'm well aware of that. Weapons are designed for many purposes such as self defense, be it someones personal home or for law enforcement. It's also used to arm the men and women of the US military, and in fact every military around the globe. While it's true that under certain circumstances that they will be used with lethal force, they are created for a purpose because there is a need for such things.

Some nations abuse the power they wield with such weaponry while others seek to deter a confrontation by simply having "The biggest stick around". If you look at it purely from the aspect that they kill, then you're right there isn't anything cool about weapons. If you instead look at weaponry as a whole, through the history of man kind. The way it's changed shape countless times, evolved time and time again to meet the needs of the era that exists. It's fascinating and yes, "cool" as you would say to marvel at where it's come from.

x3 It only sounded a bit hippie-ish, hehe. So you don't have to worry much. :)

This man is a god.

Popcap have infiltrated the DoD, they should be proud.
Now, if we can apply this to elections, we shouldn't have any more GODDAMN HUNG PARLIAMENTS!

Thats AWESOME! to think something so simple as PVZ is pretty close to Network Security
