Minecraft Dude Totally Breaks Super Meat Boy

Minecraft Dude Totally Breaks Super Meat Boy

Yea, in the day ye dig and mine thereof, then your blocks shall be placed in mid-air, and ye shall be as gods.

One of the coolest bits about the PC version of Super Meat Boy is that all of the cameo crossover characters - like the guy from Minecraft ("Steve"), the VVVVVV dude ("Viridian"), or even a headcrab - retain some of their abilities from their original games.

The end result is that a game which was originally designed to be incredibly - and hilariously - punishing becomes almost laughably easy.

You see, Steve has the ability to not just dig through walls as he pleases, but to also place blocks in midair. Both of these abilities completely neuter any sense of difficulty in the game, creating incredibly quick shortcuts to rescue the helpless Bandage Girl.

The game isn't meant to be played like this, and it's fun seeing a developer just throw its hands up and accept that sometimes balance is for chumps. It's also fun seeing just how overpowered the simple ability to dig can be in games that aren't designed for it.

Truth be told, if I was to get all 100 things I'd want something that would satisfly the work I got to get there.

And I think Steve is just that wonderfully awesome for that.

Does SMB have leaderboards? If so, these characters should totally disable them.

Shit happens, i guess.

That's amazing, I didn't think that would happen. Super Meat Boy rules ..as does Steve!

Well u have to colect a damn lot of bandages for him so it's not exactly that easy.

Not on xbl version = super sadface

Kind of defeats the purpose of playing a game like this but it is cool nonetheless.

I can see the advertising for this feature now...

"Reversing gravity? Lame. Jumping? Weak. Sticking to walls? What, are you a pansy? REAL men go THROUGH THE WALLS".

If I bought this I'd problably play the Minecraft guy when the difficulty annoyed me enough, I can have fun with a challenge but a really difficult game brings out some of the worst parts of my personality.

This game needs more Sackmen and Scouts. But it looks Awesome!! I kind of want Super Meat Boy now.

I guess this explains why unlocking him requires every single bandage...

Although he isn't on the 360 version I'm almost there... 15 bandaids to go >.<

Meh when levels get really difficult I go into a Zen like state and absolutely stop caring about much of anything and just play until it's over. Played the IWBTG levels non stop for about 4 hours, sweet sweet victory.

Every article makes me want this game more and more...

I believe Tv Tropes has an article for this phenomena...

Wow that is hilariously broken.

This makes me think of the possibilities for other games. Imagine a mod for Half-Life 2 where you always have the option of tunneling under or past enemy positions. Or a multiplayer FPS with such an option.

Minecraft dude is cheating.

You can't place blocks in mid-air in Minecraft.

Oh gods, what have you done?
You've doomed us all, we shall never sleep now!

That is definitely completely overpowered. Like, totally and completely.

@Crudler I managed to get through with only reading like 3 articles. Of course, I'd read a good portion of the links already.

See, that's great for novelty value, but what it does say is that any runs using that character should be completely invalidated from the leaderboards.

Eh, you can only get him after getting 100 bandages anyways. If you've gotten to the point where you've unlocked him then you've gone through what the game has to offer. The rest is just for kicks.

This. So playing as Steve in SMB is cheating on multiple levels.

You got me for 2 hours on that one >.< bastard.

OT: Next on Notchs game making list: Super Mine Boy!

Don't worry. Steve can still be defeated by Super Creeper Boy.

eh not really that OP, if you can collect 100 bandages you dont need easy mode, i sure would like having steve though, maybe he can help me get past world 1 -.-, got a+ on all the levels even i hell mode and got the bandages, but i cant beat the stupid boss, its enough to make me cry.

It's about indie characters, not pushing the multi-million dollar games into even more homes.

I think its rather important to note that the Minecraft Dude's name is "Steve?" and not "Steve." Steve? Always has a question mark at the end.

Steve? Is awesome and Steve? Should be in more Video games that he can break.

^^

Unless the 4th wall counts as a place where he can connect the blocks!

OT: Pretty sweet crossover character, and a great way to add replay value, even if only a little.

I only got Commander Video right now, or the way i call him RainbowRoboNinja!

Thats great. I love that they just went with the theme and said fuck it to the difficulty in favor of fun. The world would be a better place if more games had "fuck it, fun time" options.

Ofcourse, none of the challenges were designed with anyone but Meatboy in mind. The game remembers who you complete it with, however.
Some, like Jill, can make obscenely impossible challenges merely fiendishly difficult. For other characters a level can be literally impossible.

Speaking of building/destroying game play, anyone remember Step-On-It?

It's all part of fun.

I believe both Ninja Meat Boy and Steve disable leader boards. Thank goodness for that.
