I'm surprised at the amount of people taking this seriously. Pretty certain it's a joke designed to take the piss out of all the anti-video game organisations and such.

Is that somehow better? Is being immature and antagonistic towards people going to accomplish anything productive? Thunderhorse 31 had it right, if this was an ad towards a Mature audience then this is not how they would approach it because most of the people in that audience wouldn't give a rat's ass about their mom's approval of their gaming choices.

Stoic raptor:
Sad thing is, I wouldnt have noticed the joke if you didnt say anything

It took a bit of a stretch of my imagination to find the joke; don't feel bad, my ability to find terrible jokes has been refined over a number of years.

Hah. Figures. They think this is raunchy? This is tame compared so some movies.

...Come to think of it, my mom was contacted for a focus group recently, and came home pretty flustered. You don't think... nah, she didn't...

LOL this made me want to buy it just to spite those idiots XD I didnt even play the first one. Maybe I should now :P

My mom's pretty conservative, but she watched me play Dead Space once before and all she said "You know, this isn't very scary at all." So my mom was less scared of Dead Space than I was. That says a lot about both of us.

Thunderhorse31:
Methinks that if you're marketing a Mature game meant to be played by adults, your target audience wouldn't give two shits if their moms approve or not.

Nice try anyway, Visceral. I'll be getting this regardless.

Yeah I was having issues with who they were trying to sell it to as well it seems like it could be ment to to teens or younger but that'll depend on the media.

I wasn't so sure about Dead Space 2, but after watching that footage I am sold. That is some hilarious shite.

This isn't exactly good marketing for an 18 rated game now is it? Honestly how many 18+ year olds care that your mom will hate this game? this seems like its marketing this game to children but this would actually make it harder for children to get their hands on it because their mums hate it... maybe that's the point, its a sneaky way to stop their parents from buying it for them, if so, well played but I doubt it.

I feel like its a great marketing campaign wasted on the wrong product.

Is it just me or does this game look really really really fucking bad? I mean it looks worse than Red Faction which is from 1999

Why not? That's how everyone here acts.
The comments section on any article about anti-video game advocates will always be full of immature insults.

Funny, I hate Dead Space 2 as well! Or I'm assuming I will.

My mum see's games like that and go "meh", she just doesn't know how to play them :P

To be honest the violence and OTT antics in Dead Space are always going to 'offend' those not familiar with action/'horror' games like this (they are really much more action with gore and a few jump scares/ thicker atmosphere but hey they do it well). It's maily tuned out by the actual audience (i.e. you and me) becuase we are focusing so narowly on the gameplay mechanics much of the time. This is partially why games like this look so extream to people who watch them out of context.

Yeah, I get the game is gruesum and all, but I didn't really care for the first one. I probably won't like the second.

KingofallCosmos:
You guys checked out the other vids? of some of the participants taken one by one? The African American woman actually just has a "mediocre dislike" for it.
fun advertising anyway. And come on, i'm 29 but i still like to shock my mom from time to time..

She was my favorite. She actually had a fun time with it. Plus, her comments where delightfully nonsensical. The part where she was describing why she was using the word "gooey"? Priceless.

Really mature you guys.
Really mature...

For your little stunt there, now 200 family's are game free forever.

Well, their games might be a solid B list, but their advertising is spot-on spotlight worthy. Their marketing department at least has job safety.

I think the Dead Space 2 team were upset she didn't hate it like the others

:D

This kind of thing (if it wasn't actually done by actresses which i suspect it was) just re-enforces the image of games as "useless meritless gratuatious imature-fests" and whilst i can aprieciate the middle finger this puts up to thinly veiled ultra-conservative "Family Groups" i think it embarasses us as much as them. We should be trying to make games engaging to our perants and showing them the more intelligent side of games. My Dad was able to appreciate some of the pitch-perfect characterisation in "Bioshock" and the basis in life and fact that the setting in "STALKER" was able to bring even through it's more fantastical moments.

"Violence in context" is what we should be preaching; GTA4 might not offend so many people if they saw it's pretty staggering social-satire. The Gandure, scale and scope that Halo tries to convey is as much a part of the game as shooting people. Just rubbing your balls in a lot of people's faces, like this add seems to do, is not the way forward.

Or you could stop caring about what others think and just enjoy those games.

The first thimng I did when I saw the video was play the first thirty seconds. The second thing I did was rewind it to the beginning and watch it with my mum (while she doesn't play computer games she does have a sense of humour).

Right or wrong reading this thread is enlightening to the different readings/responses there are to the video.

Ha. You'd think someone opened the Ark of the Covenant or something, with that last reaction. I might actually have to check this out, now.

God bless the blissful ignorance paradise that is america

that last woman is the reason why most people laugh at americans, cause she just proved that there just are people as retarded as that in america and they seem to usually be representing groups too!

For shame America, For shame

TheDoctor455:
Hmm...
Nice little "fuck you" to groups like the PTC.

Yeah, that's what I think it is plus an awesome piece of trolling as well! :D

Was it wrong that I laughed cruely at the mother's shocked faces?

No.
It looks like that was the whole point.

And...
Having played the original Dead Space... nothing about its blood and gore is really any more shocking than anything in Aliens or Predators.

Ummm..... who gives a shit?

I am 21 I have Dead Space 2 pre-ordered, I don't give two shits how my mom feels about it.
come on its a game marketed to people 17 and up and I'm almost certain that anyone over the age of 15 also doesn't care.

Best ad I've seen in ages. Nothing like a bit of trolling to make something funny.

Hey now, that's a stereotype. America is a (very) big place with many different types of people.

That was genuinely hilarious.... kudos to the devs.

I think my mum would just be like.

"............... My son would probably like this."

She's seen me playing survival horrors before and knows the kind of films I watch. I don't think anything would shock her.

Then again she's not a conservative American.

Well, its a good thing I never cared what my mother thought when it came to my choices.

Anyway, I was only hoping that it would go "some thought it was awful, some thought it was horrible, and all hated it. Except for one, who thought it was AWESOME." XD

I.E.D.:
When my mom saw me playing Dead Space she asked me if the poor disfigured people in the game could be cured of their terrible condition, rather than being shot. I was left speechless. My mom is awesome.

I rmemeber mine walked in and said something to me about about a game. She had asked me in inFamous if I needed to be a competely douche and lightning bolt everyone I saw in the street. I looked at her and just said well... yeah... but then its not as much fun. Then I let her choose whether she watned to save someone or fry someone and she chose the latter.

My mom is awesome like that.

I think I'm the only one who can safely say my mom would both find the ad funny, and probably wouldn't mind the game. She probably would have been frightened or grossed out, but she's super liberal and has seen me play terribly violent games before and doesn't mind at all.

That's funny cause my mom doesn't like it ether xD HOW DO THEY KNOW!?

It's meant to be a joke. As in taken lightly.

I'm who it's marketed towards. the 18-30 market.

The whole 'mother' thing is making fun of the fact that mothers tend to dislike what we like. Addressing it like it's some sort of barometer of what is fun and cool.

I can't stress this part enough. It's for fun. Not meant to be taken seriously... Not even a little bit.

Oh god that's funny.
After the whole "mind numbing, mind altering, satanic weapon" part I realized that by conservative America, they meant the bible belt.

god, someone needs to set the EA marketing director on fire, although the conservative america, satanic thing made me laugh, though
