Kinect Hacker Gives Juggling Skills to Minecraft Monuments

The Kinect hacker that made himself into a bunch of Minecraft monuments has now put those monuments in motion.

The second phase of Nathan Viniconis' Minecraft monument-creating Kinect hack has brought those monuments to life. Now the hack not only creates Minecraft representations of the people and objects Viniconis places in from of his Kinect, but shows them moving around while made of Minecraft blocks.

The first phase took pictures of Viniconis and his girlfriend and represented them as best the hack could in Minecraft. After phase two, those models can be scaled, so if you want a smaller Minecraft tribute to yourself that's okay too.

The color-matching abilities of the hack have also been improved, and hack users can customize the block types they want their monuments to be made out of. The coolest part of phase two is how Viniconis demonstrates, on video, the hack animating his Minecraft monument at 30 FPS while he juggles three balls, all created in the game. This is evidently a form of stop-motion animation.

And finally, he reveals that his hack can not only put versions of ourselves into Minecraft, but our pets as well. His cat, Cashew, is shown twirling around the world of Minecraft, made of blocks. My dream of a Minecraft world filled with cute dogs has come true.

What could await us in Viniconis' phase three?

So in essence by using Kinect we can actually create real time PVP battlegrounds on our dining tables. Sounds like fun to me.

I'd totally go all out Godzilla on the table and squash those miners!

Holy shit. We are in the goddamn future. With this and the kinect wiimote and headset thing things are looking pretty sweet for this future

This is the best thing I've seen come out of the Kinect and I don't even dislike that thing that much.

It is truly awesome and really potentially great for some cool Minecraft architecture.

I just realized that Minecraft SHOULD have cute little dogs that follow you around if you "use" bread or pork on it, to "tame" or whatever? That would be sweet! Notch, please build that!

OT: Crazy shit is Crazy!

So he made them move WHILE he was in the game? How is that even possible?

That is simply the coolest thing I've seen all day.

aaaw a kitty!

Oops got distacted there :3

Someone somewhere is now required to make a movie out of this.

Is there anything Minecraft can't (or won't eventually be able to) do?

ok, that's awesome.

Gentleman, we have reached the future. Congratz. :)

That is crazy awesome.

1. Create entire city from wood
2. Buy godzilla suit, set material type to lava
3. ???
4. Profit!

His kinect camera is sending the data into minecraft and some translation programme is turning that data into minecraft blocks.

Kitty!

I say this a lot. It still hasn't sunk in. On a related note:

Yeah, but most map editors require that the file not be currently read or written to while using it, which to be honest, is something almost EVERYTHING requires, I'm more impressed that he can edit the maps while Minecraft is using them then the actual Kinect hack!

So, how many days until someone uses this technology to make a minecraft-porno?

Well it's not so much moving as changing so maybe it is a preset collection of pictures taken by the Kinect and set in a cycle. Each picture gets ported in turn providing the illusion of movement.

Pff, if it's not already out it's probably in the making already xD

Pretty good, sooo can he play on servers with people online and be like the tallest doctor from scrubs? :3

I'm betting Minecraft will cure cancer.

I like how a few months ago before Kinect was released, everyone was being a cry baby and going on about how motion gaming sucks and how Kinect is a cash grab and that it will flop terribly. Now everyone is praising it for the innovation and freedom it provides to hackers and programmers.

The irony is delicious.

Darth IB:

lets see...........

yep, already R34 on Minecraft, I would say in about two months.

OT: awesome, now to make a trap in which a giant version of me will smack anyone who comes near my underwater city.

fucking creepers.

That's pretty awesome. And DAMN, that cat was huge!
I could only imagine if there really would be a huge cat like that...no-one would EVER come above ground level.

Thanks for ruinning it for everyone else.

Exactly.. MineCraft has to be closed and reopened for each frame. That's why the clouds move so quickly in the background. A Python script did all this work for me though!

This was so amazing. And they want to bring those Kinect Hackers DOWN?! They make such beautiful work.

No, Microsoft is even putting Kinect dev tools and drivers in some kind of PC development kit. There was an article about it on this site a few days ago. Remember, Kinect is made by Microsoft, not the sue-happy bastards at Sony.

EDIT: Found it. It was just a rumor though: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/106992-Rumor-Microsoft-Working-on-Official-Kinect-Drivers-and-SDK
But anyway, yeah at first Microsoft was butthurt, but they changed their minds pretty quickly. Good move too, as there's really nothing they could have done to stop it, and continuing to jump up and down going "STOOOOP IT!" would make them look like Sony jerks.

(Yeah I still like my PS3, but I don't like Sony so much anymore for their actions this generation. Could you tell? :p)

I haven't changed my mind about Kinect yet, in terms of gaming it's still stupid but the technology behind it is great.

Awesome. I can see this being made public and there will be a war of the giants in every world

EDIT: Also Notch should make a huge statue of himself in everyworld, but hid it so the players must explore in order to witness such an epic thing.

Cock. Now I'll have to readjust my castle's defences to withstand giant cats. Thanks a lot. Meanie.

I should have seen this coming. It won't be long before the cat gets lazer eyes and employs armies of zombie minions to hunt us down. I'm dissapointed in myself for not seeing this.

I'll go sit in the corner and cry now.

LoL JUGGLE physics!

Is it sad that I'd be excited to watch that more for the Minecraft awesomeness than the actual porno?

Giant Catcraft! Surely minecraft is the playground of (digital) gods!
