Update: Trailer for Schwarzenegger's The Governator Cartoon Surfaces

Former Californian governor Arnold Schwarzenegger confirmed that he is planning a comic book penned by Stan Lee, plus a TV cartoon series, videogame and film.

Update: Video of the trailer for The Governator cartoon has surfaced. Yeah, it's just amazingly bad, from the Larry King cameo to the poor Black Eyed Peas song to the annoying use of the "I'll be back" catchphrase - twice.

Someone please prevent this atrocity from happening, I'm having Captain Planet flashbacks.

Original post: Arnold Schwarzenegger has definitely had a storied career from bodybuilding champion to muscled fantasy hero (Conan) to 80s actions star to 90s comedy star to the governor of California to ... comic book superhero? The Escapist reported that Schwarzenegger was working with comic book legend Stan Lee to create The Governator that would be based on the former governor's real life but with the twist that he's a costumed superhero fighting crime at night. Schwarzenegger not only confirmed The Governator was not an April Fool's joke at the Cannes Film Festival this weekend, but actually a multi-pronged property that will soon invade your TV, game consoles and cinema multiplexes in addition to your friendly local comic book store.

"First will come comic books, then a TV series and after that we will develop the games and then a movie," Schwarzenegger said. "Maybe then we'll be back in Cannes for that."

Not likely.

Schwarzenegger also revealed that many high-profile actors as well as "politicians, tycoons and businessmen" will lend their vocal talents to the show, including Larry King. The "retired" talk show host will play an investigative reporter as a recurring character in The Governator cartoon show.

Is anyone else a bit concerned that Schwarzenegger is trying to cash in on the fact that he won a democratic election? I don't think that's what the people of California had in mind when they elected him to replace governor Gray Davis back in 2003.

To be honest, I have no idea what they actually did have in mind voting for Schwarzenegger other than a lark so The Governator is probably what we deserve.

So let me get this straight...

This wasn't an April Fools joke.

Oh my...*sigh*

Well, Arnie, I hope for your sake that that videogame bill you backed won't go through, lest your potential future videogame career become hindered.

And you already are a masked man, what with your ability to pretend to be all fiscally conservative and then turn around and go all "SPEND YOUR MONEY TO FIGHT GLOBAL WARMING OR THIS KID WILL FAINT AND THE GOV'T SHOULD SPEND TIME AND MONEY MAKING SURE KIDS DON'T PLAY DA BAD GAMES!"

If his game has the least bit of violence in it I hope the entire fucking gaming community brutally attacks him for it.

AnythingOutstanding:

Oh my...*sigh*

This is EXACTLY what went through my mind when I read it. You beat me to the punch.

I HAVE to sigh too..

*SIGH*

"To be honest, I have no idea what they actually did have in mind voting for Schwarzenegger other than a lark so The Governator is probably what we deserve." LOL brilliant. I don't think I've ever sighed so much after reading anything (except maybe The Dark Knight Strikes Again). This is just... just wow

I had to pinch myself to confirm this wasn't a dream.

lol awesome :D

Meh, could be pretty fun I think. Nice to know he can take a joke.

He always said he'd be back!

I'd watch it.

Maybe.

If the movie ran on TV.

My reaction to this as a joke: heh, heh...I'm gona go make a ham sandwich.

My new reaction: This is really, really awful. I'm gona go make a ham sandwich.

Know what, I'm really excited about this.

It has the potential to be the most ridiculously awesome thing ever, either because it's going to blow away all our expectations, or it's just going to be ludicrously bad.

Is this some kind of post-April fools thing?

Video Game? Wow, so he's an idiot, greedy, and hypocrite.

If they do this with A LOT of tongue in cheek it could work, like with Adam West. Perhaps. Well, I hope so, it's been so long since he was the star of a good movie. I miss him.

If it's an intentional self-parody it could be funny, that might require having Jesse Ventura as a prominent recurring character :D

He's waiting till he's out of office for this so let the guy give it a shot, it'll probably fail but it could be a surprise hit. Don't throw a stone till you can clearly see the target!!

If it's a parody, then it might be half way decent. But I don't get that vibe from Arnie...

Not an April Fool's joke? Trying to cash in? Corny name? Retarded outfit? Yep, this completely makes sense in a world where Snooki wrestles at Wrestlemania and slaping a girl on the ass is worse than repeated homicide.

He did parody himself in Last Action Hero, so he is capable of poking fun at himself in a film. Yes, I did watch that film, and I actually like it.

The eyes of the Resistance are on him at all times. We are prepared to drop f-bombs and flaming bags of poop on his porch like the gelataneous blobs of gaming flesh we are.

OT; Well, it can't be much worse than making a buck as an after dinner speaker. Like Bush did. Somehow.

This could be a hilarious, tounge in cheek self parody, or possible, hopefully, a genuine attempt at the genre that reaches the level of spectacular, fascinating train wreck. Both of thsoe would be great. It could also be a cheap attempt to cash in on either of those 2 things. Guess we will have to wait and see.

Is it wrong that I really, really want to see this happen?

Hey, if a show about ponies using the magical power of friendship can make it, so can this. It would be hypocritical of me not to give it a chance.

And that trailer is badass.

The cartoon sounds okay if Arnold voices it, And with Sran Lee on the comic book cant hurt (I would have prefered Mark miller), but I feel he is milking something that doesnt exsist yet.

I called this, in the former thread on April Fools day.

"Set out the news on April Fools day so people can chuckle and go 'wuuut!?'
Than, set out the release of the news being serious later on, and people won't be as shocked and revolted. It's great to break down, than sell."

Not those exact words, but I called this, just FYI everyone.

This one is not particularly certain if this is a good idea. This one knows its not a bad idea but will it get off the ground to the point where it can even be a game?

When one looks at it its basically Mike Haggar only he cant 'work' during the day.

YES! I was unhappy when I realized the story was up on April 1st, but now my hopes were answered!

Edit: Watched the clip. I'm so fucking down for this. It looks laughably bad in the best way.

IT'S NOT A RUMOUR

Fuck yes.

This idea is so magnificently stupid that it can't become anything not entertaining.

Oh, yeah. I'd forgotten about that. lol

Greedy? Explain please, idiot? I dont think so just not a good politician but then again he served two terms, hypocrite? Explain.

Sorry Arnold but once you had become the governor you lose all the other fame you had as an actor. I mean come on! a couple of cameo and a film or two is not enough for ya?

EDIT- OK I will post something once I stop slamming my head at the nearest wall in my room from watching that trailer.

Ok barely I'm barely conscious so I will say this WTFH??? No you do not make a cartoon first expecting people will automatical like it!!! And what the hell with the kids sidekicks? That is so 80's cliche!!!!

Isn't he involved in the court case to censor games? Seems kinda silly for him to have a game under his own brand if he opposes violent "material". As for the idiot and greedy, this is a fucking dumb idea for a franchise. All the inside jokes about Arnold don't have much comedy staying power. Charlie Sheen tried to use all his jokes and sayings to start a comedy tour. He was met with instant failure and angry fans wanting refunds. As for the greedy, he is clearly doing this as a cash grab. People haven't wanted to see him in films and television for years. He is an aging out of shape action star, and he was never much of an actor. I'm aware he has a fan base, but if he really thinks he's able to launch multiple franchises he is a greedy fool.

Edit: Looks like I was correct about being pessimistic.
