Game Boy Grave Robber Goes to Jail

Game Boy Grave Robber Goes to Jail

image

The guy who stole a Game Boy out of the casket of a teenager who was killed on Christmas Day is going to jail - but not for stealing the Game Boy.

Remember Jody Lynn Bennett of Mentcle, Pennsylvania? He's the greasy bastard who stole a Game Boy during the funeral for 17-year-old Bradley David-McCombs, who was killed on Christmas Day while driving to pick up a relative for family festivities. Bennett snagged the system and some accessories out of McCombs' coffin during a public visitation and then hoofed it, but he wasn't hard to track down because the two families know each other. Bennett's aunt Diana said at the time that the whole family was "mortified" by what he'd done.

Bennett's going to jail, but not for the theft, mightily skeevy though it was. He pleaded guilty to institutional vandalism and theft and was given two years of probation, but he was also given 30 days to six months in the slammer for unrelated charges of drunk driving and drug possession. Bennett said he feels horrible about what he did and apologized for his actions. Fortunately, the items he took, which held sentimental value for the family, were all recovered.

His aunt said at the time of the theft that he'd struggled with drugs and alcohol and described him as "just messed up," which is pretty hard to argue with. Still, there might be a hidden upside to all this; if Bennett can grasp just how low a person has to sink to be stealing things out of the coffins of teenagers who died tragically on Christmas, maybe the shock and humiliation will be enough to convince him to be a little less of a douchebag. And if not, well, at least now everybody knows to keep a close eye on him.

Well I guess um....what more is there so say? Case closed? Go home everybody.

Game Over for him!

Wow...he actually made it through the doors let alone outran someone! XD

Imagine if there had been a console or computer in the casket, the dude wouldn't have made it 5 feet before someone tackled him. It's pretty sick that someone would stoop so low (I know anyone would be tempted if say a game case was left open at walmart or EBgames had all the Staff in the back, but a kid's funeral?...that's just not right on so many levels). Hopefully this guy gets his S**T together and gets off drugs so that he can realize just how despicable his actions were.

Anyway, yeah you have to sink pretty low to be stealing from coffins. o_O

How dare he steal a Game Boy, from anyone dead or alive! Those things are (if we are talking color) are priceless antiques! Douchebag.

..Also, very low for stealing from a coffin in public. Kid has balls, but he doesn't have brains.

Unless he was in dire need of a Game boy, I don't see why he even thought it was a good idea.

It was drug addiction. The guy was so messed up he probably thought it was a DS and he could sell it and get high. Not that its an excuse but certainly more understandable than simply wanting to play a gameboy.

I guess justice caught up to him

I see carma is working again.

[edited: oops, wrong thread. ignore, please.]

I don't know if what he did was all that bad. After all, it ain't like the dead kid was gonna be able to play his Game Boy anymore.

*sigh* this is just low... I think he deserves the punishment. Sure, the kid wont be playing it anymore, but people should not take things away that is not rightfully yours.

Who the hell could do something like this? Its mind boggling.

This, and the fact that he probably gained pariah status with the entire family for stealing the Gameboy. Honestly, people who steal from graves, let alone coffins that haven't been buried yet are the lowest of the low in my opinion.

It wasn't even a DS, it was a GAMEBOY.

...What, could he not just find some cheap one on Ebay? Sheesh. O-o

Cause and Effect bro, cause and effect.

Well it's good to see that he learnt what he did wrong, maybe he can go back to society as a decent person.
I'm blaming the drugs for this guy.

Hooooollllyyyyyy shit...... thats disgusting ... he probably had some DEEP sentimental connection with the GameBoy T have himself buried with it.... Whata fucking peice of anal evacuation. I hope he raped by shigeru miyamoto and some huge philippino guy in jail.....

You may say that I'm a bastard or something like that, but i just can't get how stealing from someone who is already dead(and what does fact that the man was killed on some holiday have to do with this case? This is just pathetic playing with emotions of public) is worse than stealing from alive person. I'd prefer to have stolen something from me when i already won't use it than when this loss would really affect me.

I would rise from the dead if someone stole my Gameboy. Poor kid, hope that guy has plenty of "romantic adventures" in prison.

That's pretty low. Pretty stupid too as he knew the kid's family and all.

Then again, I can't imagine that gameboy is going to get much action down there... Seems like if it was sentimental to the family then they would have framed it, gold-plated it, locked it away in a safe or something other than putting it in the ground.

Not judging here or anything, but I'd be embarrassed (not that I'd care) if the one thing that I'd be remembered by was my gameboy. Just sayin' it's not a great sign of one's social life.

The guy in the picture is the guy who was buried.

Congratulations on the fat joke, though.

I know that was the kid who died, but I meant that it's surprising nobody noticed him take the gameboy in the middle of a open casket funeral and that the dude (Who was apparently drugged up at the time) actually outran someone. You'd have assumed some guy snatching up and gameboy from a casket and heading for the doors would've tipped someone off.

(Though yes, I unintentionally made a fat joke)

I have no doubt he was guilty of the crime, but i have a feeling he took a plea bargain to avoid facing a jury, knowing most people would call for the execution of someone who stole a toy from a dead kid. Still, glad to see it's ended with relative tameness. I'd hate to see the media circus that would hit if it went to court.

If he was smarter, he could have stolen the kids kidneys, They're worth more.

There's something decidedly Egyptian about being buried with your Gameboy. It's kind of cool. To bad this little dufus had to ruin his afterlife fun times.
