Report: New Vegas Patch Just Makes Things Worse

A patch for Fallout: New Vegas to prepare the game for the "Honest Hearts" DLC has reportedly broken it for Xbox 360 owners.

Earlier this week, we learned that Obsidian and Bethesda were releasing patch 1.3 for Fallout: New Vegas (oddly enough known as patch 1.5 for the PS3 version) to lead into the upcoming Honest Hearts DLC. Beyond setting up the world for the DLC, patch 1.3 was also meant to rebalance the game's guns and add stability and optimization improvements to the infamously buggy game.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to have done that. According to posts on the official New Vegas forum, some Xbox 360 owners are reporting that since the patch, Fallout won't load their saved games. Others are reporting regular and frequent system crashes.

"Great, get the day off, settled down in front of the Xbox to play New Vegas and guess what, it freezes. Thanks Bethesda!" wrote a user named Blackivar. "As with everyone else, the new update has wrecked my game, got the warning about losing content and now it won't load up my past saves - well that was time well spent (assuming you can argue playing games even is time well spent)."

Bethesda acknowledged the game issues on its Twitter feed: "We're aware some folks are having New Vegas save issues. We're working with Microsoft on this and should have more information soon."

I really do feel for gamers who bought a product that doesn't work as it's supposed to, but on some level I can't help but find it funny in its absurdity at this point. Even when Obsidian tries to fix the game, it breaks it.

New Vegas has been plagued by crap from day 1, so this doesn't surprise me. One of the few games that I actually traded in over rage-quitting after 3 saves were corrupted by crashes.

This article is a little confusing, is it Bethesda or Obsidian that patch the game?

Wha...? How? What the...? *facepalm* How? How can you possibly make New Vegas any worse of a bug ridden mess? Unbelievable. I can't even fathom what Bethesda's QA process must be like. This has got to be the most buggy AAA title ever released. I'm flabbergasted.

Fantastic. I was just about to go play New Vegas, too.

Guess I'm glad I read this before updating.

Well this is from the Oblivion engine...

You were expecting anything more?

They sure make fun games...when and if they work

As far as I know, both. Obsidian is the developer, Bethesda is the publisher who funds the developer and handles distribution. Both could be seen at fault.

Looks like Honest Hearts skipped a beat.

Makes me glad I have a ps3 over a 360. Oh PSN being dead lack of some titles and subpar ports of others make me not glad. But my Fallouts rarely freeze and never ever corrupt saves. Its of course sad that "doesnt freeze too bad" is the good version of the game.

I cant believe they actually made it more of a buggy mess than it already is. Bravo. That is quite an accomplishment.

I don`t want to sound like a fanboy but i`m glad that i bought a PC version, now if only i could convince myself to finish that game..

This dosn't look like good PR. They are likely to suffer from fallout.

OT: Hope they fix this soon then. I plan to buy the GotY edition when it comes out

Honestly, I don't really see where all this complaining about New Vegas is coming from. I've spent probably about 50+ hrs playing the game (some of that on the 360, some of it on the PC) and I've really only had it crash or glitch a couple of times. No more so than any other game that I've spent that much time playing. Maybe I've just been lucky or something....

Well played Hankman. Well played.

"Insert PC elitist comment here"

But really, I've had little problems with my copy of FO:NV. Lees then with FO3 anyway >_>

Quoted for awesome

So glad I didn't play New Vegas today. Looks like another four weeks of waiting for a fix to fix this fixxy fix.

I stopped playing it on ps3 waiting for the patch. Now... now i'm not so sure. I don't want to lose my save.

Gamebryo will haunt Obsidian's dreams forever. I'm glad that engine is at its end.

Add another quoter who loves the pun.

I am not buying any Fallout games from Bethesda anymore unless the reviews say it doesn't crash once you open the box.
Sorry Bethesda, selling broken stuff gets you bad credit.

Both PS3 and 360 gamers are now unable to get/play HH :(

I never really had a whole lot of trouble with glitches to begin with.
Not gonna risk getting the update to change that now.

Another reason that I'll add to my list of why I'm glad I didn't buy New Vegas...

Not that I really wanted to play it, but I hope my PC copy would work properly if I decided to. This is quite nonsense, really. Ship a broken game, try to fix it but only break it more. Pah.

Anyone else miss the days where you bought yourself a nice PS2 or GameCube game and it worked properly because they had to make sure it would work when they shipped it because what shipped was the final version? Sure, PC always had patches, but at least on consoles developers used to have to make an effort for the game to be finished before launch.

Wow, consoles are getting more crap than a septic tank.

See, this is why I usually wait a couple years before getting an Obsidian game. I hate bugginess, and they're pretty bad about patching. Also, it's just cheaper.

Wow, playing a game on a platform it blatantly wasn't designed for has negative effects? What a shock!

Why do game companies show a consistent failure to test their damn patches?

This is something that any degree of playtesting would've caught before it went out.

We are not your fucking testers, test your own shit.

Don't believe Bethesda's marketing. There's about a 85% chance the Skyrim engine is just a graphical update to Gamebryo with a new name.

yeah i went to play new vegas just the other day and found significantly more glitches in the first hour of the game than i had after 1 and a half previous playthroughs. i thought that was odd. now i know why. thats frustrating.

Somehow, I knew Obsidian was going to fuck this up. Everyone in that damn building needs to be fired and banned from ever working in the game industry again.

As far as I know, both. Obsidian is the developer, Bethesda is the publisher who funds the developer and handles distribution. Both could be seen at fault.

Well the game was developed by Obsidian, but tested by Bethesda, so the same may be true for the patches. Bethesda may just be making the patches themselves, while having Obsidian work on the DLC.

Which isn't too re-assuring, since Bethesda's games can be buggy as hell themselves. With Fallout 3 requiring about 7 patches, and its still pretty buggy.

WHERE ARE THE LAWSUITS AGAINST THIS COMPANY?

My rocket launcher and heavy incinerator still are randomly unusable as enemies take no damage from them, but after patch it might have gotten better.

However I can't use Euclids C-finder at all anymore as it won't actually fire.

I just wanna use my deadly space laser Q_Q

It's official... i was waiting for the time that everything would be sorted but it looks like that will never happen...I'm trading my copy into CEX...

Fallout 3, your getting raped. By me.

Nope, i just blame the developers, they created the patch, probably got the coding all muddled up.

Uuh, Fred, I think you misquoted someone.
