That should shut anyone hating on the Portal 2 store up for a bit. Who am I kidding, it won't.
SHUT UP AND TAKE MY- Oh, wait. Keep being awesome Valve; glad to hear all the platforms are being treated equally for this content rather than Microsoft forcing to charge for DLC.
| |
I'll send them an email and demand that I get to pay for this! I hate free stuff!
It may be free, but they're still making me pay for hats so this is bullshit too. (...or something) -m
I must get this DLC
If YOU don't like it, it MUST be good
Silly Matt, don't you have enough crazy/silly hats in the costume hat rack? OT: I wonder though, what kind of evil plan is Microsoft scheming since it's free on the Xbox aswell. Valve must've found a loophole or something xD
To all those who hated on the hat 'DLC'? Ha... Ha... Ha... Why? Cause I get levels, and game-play modes, and it's all free. Bitch about that, eh?
The hat money goes in part to cover the expenses of giving players "free" stuff. Valve you are awesome, keep them hats rolling if you plan to keep the game going.
Challenge mode? Please no STUPID step counter this time. Please.
This is what I predicted when I saw portal 2 had a multiplayer component. Frankly the money I paid for L4D2 hardly begins to cover the game I now own. I bet in a year the size of Portal 2 is half again what it is now, that's why I'm so happy to pay full price for it. Though I will say this: By doing this Valve have gone above and beyond any obligation to customers.
so they said nothing about content, eh?
Sweeet, the only thing I thought was missing was a challenge mode. Was nice going through the single player and everything, but I kind of missed the pure evil challenges that were in Portal 1.
I'm sure the free-ness will be even worse in their books since it proves even Valve consider it worthless.
Free content, or the rest of a really short game? Either way, this will make the price of Portal 2 legit. I hope.
Considering the free content for Burnout Paradise I've got high hopes for this to be huge. But I don't think it will be quite that.
Once again, Valve shows us how its doing DLC right. Giving stuff integral to the experience(or enhancing the experience) to everyone for free, and instead selling the stuff not everyone would want. Stuff that is not integral to the game, and offers nothing to the experience.
Step counter...?
... wow. I find it hard to believe that at any point after finishing the single player you said to yourself "this is an incomplete game". Its free content, I mean, I know there's 'always one', but Jesus fucking H. Its not like this is a big new thing for them, born in the brains of some cynical PR rep. They've always done it. "Now With 30% More Entitlement". Tell me about it.
Valve don't make Burnout Paradise...? OT: Valve's DLC is always free, 'tis not news!
*angrily writes a check to Valve* I'll show you, you greedy bastards! Giving me stuff for free, will you?
Free? On all platforms...? Including XBox? It seems fishy.
WHAT?! Announcing a DLC this early after release proves that Valve is just in it for the quick money. FUCK THEM! I won't pay a cent for this pile of crap. Back in the day, we didn't have to buy a game in small chunks. This is an outrage!!!!!! Heh, good going, me loves free stuff...
There were...challenge...at least in the console versions. They gave you slightly modified versions on the main games puzzles, and you had to meet a time limit, portal limit...and step limit.
Ooooh from the first. Never bothered with those myself.
I take back every bad thing I said about the day 1 DLC. Sorry Valve.
What are the bets Microsoft are still going to charge for this? As I recall L4D DLC is free on everything bar 360.
Has always Valve provides another free DLC (campaign wise)... And this is why i love Valve... the only paying dlc's or adds are costumizable items for youre characters on TF2 or even Portal2.... Now THIS IS A REAL COMPANY.... when it comes to important aspects for the community they make it free, so that we can all enjoy theyre magnificent works.... While nowdays they want to charge you for 4 hour long campaigns(dont even make me start) and packs of 5 maps for Call of Duty(and kinda overpricing it)...
They fucking suuuuuck.
Gabe Newell will forgive you. If you write a song about him. Not his games. Just him.
Maybe you should make a Portal 2 song to apologize...'hint hint, wink wink, nudge nudge' :3
Yes, my sense of Entitlement is huge, and it (my title) lets people know who they are dealing with... an ass to say the least! Be an honest one. Yeah, I felt the game wasn't complete. I also played it again with the commentary, they said as much too. Don't think I'm just some blind, hate filled jerk though, Valve makes some great stuff. I loved Portal 2, but for its full price, I think they could have given more. Turns out they thought so too.
Hey Valve! Hey Valve! Hey Valve! Hey! Hey Valve! Can we have a test chamber in space?
How do you know I haven't already ;)
Actually... well... I kind of do mention him in an upcoming song.
well if Valve is giving away real content for free they have the right to sell as many silly hats, bells and whistles as they damn please.
I can vouch for Mr Thal here, he may be blunt but I always like his honesty.
You're not one of those people who'd pick up GTA IV just because it has more missions are you, in spite of them being complete filler, poorly paced, and with a pubic-hair's worth of story? And I haven't heard anyone else say that's in the developer commentary (you think it'd be a bit of a hot topic if a developer had said their own game was lacking in content/a rip-off), and they haven't mentioned it in any post-launch interviews.

Valve Announces Free DLC for Portal 2
Portal 2's first DLC package has been announced, and it'll be totally free.
The official announcement of the Portal 2 DLC that Valve announced it'd be announcing is here. The package Valve is calling Portal 2 DLC #1 for now will arrive in summer 2011 on all platforms and won't cost players anything.
What's the catch? Valve and Aperture Science get more testing data, that's what, which you know they're using for something devious.
Portal 2 DLC #1 wasn't detailed very much in the official announcement, sadly, but more information will probably come with some incredibly mysterious alternate-reality game that'll require fans to read Huckleberry Finn and follow clues to a South American jungle where Gabe Newell is waiting with a fact sheet. I mean, how else is Valve going to top itself after its last ARG?
What we do know is that DLC #1 will feature new test chambers, leaderboards, a challenge mode in both single-player and multiplayer, and more. The "challenge mode" seems to hint toward something that might give players a timer that'll record how quickly they can complete chambers or other specific goals. "More" could mean anything from new music to new test chamber mechanics to a 10-hour expansion of the game's storyline and preview of Half-Life 3.
And again, this DLC will be completely free. If you don't like things that are free, you're welcome to mail Valve a check on your own accord.
