Sony's "Make Good" plan for DC Universe Online will give players a month of free play and some pretty snazzy fledermaus-inspired headgear.
Sony Online Entertainment promised back in April that it would "make good" for all the DC Universe Online downtime resulting from the PlayStation Network/SOE security breach. At the time, the bone-throwing was slated to begin on April 30 and although that turned out to be a bit optimistic, the company has at least now told us what DCUO players have to look forward to.
"First, all impacted players will receive 30 days subscription credit plus one day for each day the service was unavailable," SOE wrote on the DC Universe OnlineFacebook page. "Also every impacted player will receive a Batman-inspired mask appearance item. Please bear with us as the complexities of the subscription server dictate how and when this will be available along with pertinent details."
Sony promised to release more details this week and, as has become the habit, thanked everyone again for their patience. I'm not sure if it qualifies as "patience" when there's simply no other option available, which will remain the case for the foreseeable future: SOE is "working around the clock to restore operations as quickly as possible" but gave no indication as to when service will be restored.
EDIT: I have learned that there is in fact a Batwoman. She is both Jewish and lesbian. Who knew?
The funny thing is Batwoman was 1st introduced in order to try and prove that 'Batman is not gay'. Then, in time, they made her a lesbian. Weird development.

There's actually Batgirl, Batwoman, The Huntress (Lesbian ex-Batwoman) and Oracle (who's the ex-batgirl). And a female Robin AFAICR.

If they were interested in convincing me that Batman isn't gay, they should have killed off Robin. That would have more convincing effect than the introduction of Batwoman.

True, but Robin was and still is a waaaay too popular character to kill off. Besides they would simply have someone else take the mantle, like they did twice(or even thrice if you count Stephanie Brown) before.

Batwoman was the only character who got created specifically so that Batman could be 'so not gay despite having Robin by his side all the time'. Of course, later writers changed that, because she was introduced all the way back in the Silver Age of comics, IIRC.
And the female Robin you're referring to is Stephanie Brown. She didn't last very long in that role. In fact, I believe Batman explicitly told her that she failed her trial period.

That and she was distracting Robin from more weighty matters.
So this means about 5 people will get the hat? Seriously, there are only FOUR SERVERS that are played anymore. two for PC, two for PS34. One for Europe and one for America each.

Stephanie Brown became batgirl two years ago and I got to admit, she doing a hell of a job.
Oh great a 30 free sub to dcuo so i can catch up with the league again, awsome. But wait "we are woking around the clock-" I'm sorry but that takes away from everything. Sony said psn would be up for sure wensday, it is now thursday goin on friday. Sony i love you guys and i will try my very hardist to stay with you but this is getting outta hand now.
Gah. Great, my credit card info is potentially compromised and I get...a mask. Okay, the extra month is being decent about things, but I'm going to have to hope that others are still going to show up.
Seriously, DCUO is a really really fun game. I'm totally into the action MMO concept, and there's some fantastic environmental design (yeah, two cities. But the alerts take you elsewhere, so hey). Decent writing, too, even if the overall "Exobyte" storyline is more than a tad weak.
But Sony has completely and utterly mismanaged the game from day one. What they really need to do is just offer a free intro month, maybe F2P until level ten, or heck, just a freaking demo. That ain't going to happen, though. At least not with a marketing team that is mostly worried about rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.
Because of this whole PSN situation I can't even register for DCUO, I'm waiting for days now... Think that they will get me those 30 days for free if I register a day or two after it's online again?
I'm a bit confused here, i haven't had an open sub since the game was first release and till about a month after that, but I assume my information was still on file. Anyone know if I still get a free month?

I'm gonna go ahead and guess that sony are going to give every account on record 30+ days. I suppose they could only give it to "active" accounts, but it just makes no sense to do that.
Selvec: And when DC: Online comes back up Sony will make it Free to Play, thus giving you all your free days.
You know what? As someone who paid full price for the game, I'd still welcome that. I know it would grind a lot of gears for some guys, but bottom line, DCUO needs to stop hemmoraging players (also needs more end game content, but that's a secondary issue).
As an individual who would not give his last $1 to Sony if they were a reputable dealer of firehoses and his house was already ablaze, how *is* DCUO faring these days (pre-Crash, that is)? I seem to recall everyone was calling it the potential City of Heroes killer, but...?
Disclaimer: I played CoH for ~5 years, finally left when I realized that I had seen everything the game had or potentially ever would have to offer. DCUO has my interest, but again: Sony.

The game has improved since release. There are things to like and things not to like. It's short, and low on content for an MMO at a brisk 30 levels. It has plenty of raids and missions to grind on once you get there, but it is without question grinding.
I enjoy that it is one of the few MMO games to actually have something approaching a real combat system. In some hectic fights when you're trying to chain-juggle enemies with weapon attacks, while spacing it out with large damage super moves it can almost feel like God of War online, because the fighting really has that feel to it.
It's an excellent casual MMO, but bugs and exploit issues at initial release caused the population to drop off severely. I will go so far to say that you can at least tell that the developers if this game made it with a deep love and respect for the source material, and work hard to represent the best parts of the DC world in great detail.
