Leisure Suit Larry Returns Later This Year

Leisure Suit Larry Returns Later This Year

Luckless love machine Leisure Suit Larry is making a big return this summer in his original incarnation, with none other than Al Lowe himself at the wheel.

Gamers of a certain vintage will recall, probably fondly, the fumbling adventures of Larry Laffer, the most desperate-to-get-laid videogame character of a generation. He sprung to life in the mid-80s and soon became one of Sierra's most famous and popular videogame characters, although his last two appearances - Magna Cum Laude and Box Office Bust, which featured neither series creator Lowe nor the original Larry Laffer character - were both embarrassments.

But the upcoming revival by Replay Games is doing things a little differently, bringing back not only the original Larry but also the man who made him famous. The new game is actually an old game: the 1991 remake of Larry's original adventure in The Land of the Lounge Lizards, which upgraded the blocky 16-color EGA/Tandy graphics to stunning 256-color VGA.

"It's no fun telling people who want to play your games that their only recourse is to pirate them," Lowe said. "Finally, Larry leaves his digital dungeon to delight those too young (or too smart) to play it way back when."

"So many people enjoyed and were influenced by Larry's original adventure that it's an absolute pleasure to bring the smooth-talking charmer back to his legions of fans, a whole new generation of players and unimpressed women in bars and nightclubs everywhere," added Replay CEO Paul Trowe. "Working with Al means you can be sure the game is exactly how he intended it to be seen. It plays as smoothly as one of Larry's pick up lines."

That's a bit alarming, but I'm optimistic that it'll all work out for the best anyway. Platforms aren't yet known but the new, old game is expected to come out later this summer.

Oh great....

with none other than Al Lowe himself at the wheel.

But wait...

I just hope the controls aren't too stiff

I don't even care about the series and I still think it's awesome they're bringing Al Lowe back, good job Replay!

And so, a whole new generation of socially awkward virgins is encouraged...

Oh man, there was no part of that last quote that was not hilarious. Unless he used Larry's pickup lines as an analogy because he actually thinks that "smooth" is a good description for them, in which case it is even more hilarious.

My first thought reading the title was "Does he have to?", Is there even a big enough audience to justify the existence of this?

The reason modern Larries sucked balls was because they were too "PG", with middle-school humor at best, and those shitty minigams because they had no clue how to translate the old style the original games were in to the modern consoles.

In a way, they fucked up so bad, it made Al want to get in and rescue it so it's not a complete laughing stock.

Maybe the game will be hard for the new kids. I hope the kids won't make any boners when playing it.

wooo, I remember jacking off to that game way back in the day, ahh good times

Al Lowe is back with series? I'll be keeping my eye on this one.

Never played any of the LSL games, but I've heard about them. Hopefully it won't be like Box Office Bust, which I've heard is the equivalent of giving your X-Box 360 herpes.

Oh, please don't don't let Fox News Find. Please don't let Fox News find out. Please!

Guess it's time to boot up a dosbox and play my LoL. I'm glad that images are ageless.

I think it can safely be said that that is more than we wanted to know.

OT: Never played the games before, and I don't think I will. It just isn't my type of game.

You missed the point of the damn thing.

They SUPPOSED to be horrible. Tell me, when did you ever hear a good pun unless it was hidden?

I like to think that in the future our outdated currencies of paper money, coins and ones and zeros will be replaced by the eternally valuable dick joke.

This is good times indeed. Just what a populous overwhelmed by mindless pornography needs to understand that adult entertainment can contain both boobs and intelligent humor. I hope that not only does this plan succeed, but that LSL two and three come back with better graphics too.

I dunno. The old Larry games were pretty fun adventures in their own right, and the innuendo had humour and even a certain charm to it. I'm just not sure they'll work today. I'd think about giving a remake a chance though, since Al Lowe is back.

You kids these days and your internet pornography. The picture attached to this article was about all we had when I was a kid. That and a stolen-from-someone's-father copy of a 1976 Playboy.

Well atleast they picked the best episode of the series for the remake. Good to see Larry making a return. Now if they could only get past today's censors and make a new one.

Larry styled characters are alive and well these days. They're even funny. Here's proof:

Now I just hope they expand on Lost Wages A LOT, or else it's going to be a really short game. Or well they could make it short and release it on the iOS, that'd be fine with me.

Wait, am I reading this right? Are they just going to be selling the 1991 version of Larry 1 again?

Then who cares? It's not as if I get teary-eyed because I have to pirate a game when there's no other way to get it. And what would Lowe even be doing here?

Another Leisure Suit Larry? No thank you, not after BOB

Oh god. Make it go away! PLEASE

Also, why does the woman in the image look like Zoidberg?

BOB was not a proper Leisure Suit Larry.
Al Lowe (series creator) was not in any way involved with that game, nor was he involved with Magna Cum Laude.

This is only a remake of the original "The Land of the Lounge Lizards" though, but I hope that it has enough success that they develop a brand new Leisure Suit Larry.

That's actually how people looked back in the late 80's/early 90's

I was gonna go to class, but then someone posted a tv tropes link.

What's horrible is the way they're overplayed using bold text.
