Brace Your Eyeballs For the Gunnar Optiks MW3 Gaming Eyewear

image

"Technology eyewear" manufacturer Gunnar Optiks and Activision have joined forces to create official, limited edition Modern Warfare 3 Gaming Eyewear.

I don't know exactly what "technology eyewear" is but I do know that with custom spring hinges, magnesium alloy frame, adjustable nose pads and "venting details inspired by the latest technology in military machinery," these bad boys from Gunnar Optiks-with-a-K are just the thing you need to take your game to the next level and impress the ladies, all at the same time.

"Not only will the limited edition eyewear provide a visual advantage to gamers through those long nights of intense action," said Gunnar Optiks President Rob Aarnes, "but they will be able to show their affinity for the new blockbuster and look badass while playing it."

Gunnar's Modern Warfare 3 Gaming Eyewear promises to reduce glare, improve focus, sharpen details and minimize eye fatigue with lenses coated with a specially-formulated amber tint that "shifts the color spectrum to provide superior contrast, detail and resolution." But all that non-prescription hipness doesn't come cheap: these MW3 specs carry a suggested retail sticker of $99, which includes a limited edition Modern Warfare 3-branded carrying case, a limited edition Modern Warfare 3-branded pouch and a standard edition cleaning cloth.

There's no word on when these awesome indoor sunglasses will hit the shelves but preorders will be available starting in late August from Best Buy, which will be the exclusive retailer of the Modern Warfare 3 Gaming Eyewear in North America. They'll also be available in Europe from "select retailers" that will be announced in the coming months.

If you want to blow an extra $100 just for some glasses that reduce the eyestrain that comes from your body telling you to turn off the screen, go for it.

Um...no love for Deus Ex? I mean, really? This look downright nerdy in comparison to those awesome specs.

Amber tint? Isn't that to help with low light conditions?

I am under the assumption that most gamer's have lightbulbs.

I'd buy them just so I can tell people that my vision is augmented.

Repeat after me people:

Ahhh capitalism, profiting from the stupid.

"AND a standard edition cleaning cloth."

Wow, they really grabbed interest with that STANDARD edition cleaning cloth...
Can I please waste 20 more bucks to get the SUPER AWESOME MEGA HYPER edition cleaning cloth?
You know, the one with futuristic nanofibers that makes your glasses *so* clean you can barely tell a difference with the regular standard one.

Seriously, these guys don't know you are supposed to end marketing blurb with a bang and never ever to use a term that sounds like you are selling lame, ordinary stuff?

Ignore double post.
Escapist's acting up for me...

Related to that earthquake earlier today?

The sad thing is I can see a few of my CoD loving friends buying these.

You know, if these worked I'd drop 10-15 on a pair for long nights in the library. That last all-nighter for programming was painful.

If I wanted to spend that much on glasses I'd go get a new pair of glasses for my myopia instead of these crappy things. Really, they're just amber tinted sunglasses. Amazing, right?

Okay, now really, this is getting a bit ridiculous. But hey, if they know people will part with cash for these things (and they will) why not exploit that weakness for some more profit?

As has been pointed out earlier, I do wonder why they had to mention that the cloth was merely a standard edition. Perhaps the Prestige edition cloth has some added functionalities. While one side can be used to clean the glasses, the other side is better suited to cleaning up....stains.

Also:

"Not only will the limited edition eyewear provide a visual advantage to gamers through those long nights of intense action

"Long nights of intense action" is a turn of phrase that makes me think of something, but I don't think it's Call of Duty....

This is why Jack Thompson hates us.

I mean, they aren't even 3D glasses. I can understand buying those, but this? There is no a hundred bucks is the right price.

How come these are never reasonably priced?

EverythingIncredible:

They are reasonably priced for a CoD fanboy, but then again didn't they give away some nightvision goggles with the CoD: MW2 Prestige edition? Atleast you got a game for the $150 selling price.

Because I am totally down with laying out a Benjamin for an overhyped, ugly facial decoration that duplicates the function of MY EYELIDS.

And after that, I'll play a few rounds of "Bobbing For Angry Weasels".

Sunglasses are a fashion item, go drop by your local sunglass hut and quickly cease being shocked over 100 dollar glasses. My prescription Ray-Bans were like $500 bucks......and IIRC 300ish of that was just the frames, so non prescription ones would be in the 300 dollar range. Eyewear is retard-expensive.

Look at those prices!

hey if you are stupid enough to drop 100 dollars on sunglasses then go right ahead. I would also like to sell you this rock. It looks like any other rock but placing it inside your mouth while you play CoD will improve your gaming skills 150%.....it also comes with some dirt.

You can get decent sunglasses for under 50 bucks if you have some patience and do a little research before hand(assuming they arent prescription of course). If you want brand name glasses then yes, be prepared to drop a stupid amount of money.

Oh, they already make those!

This is stupid. Nothing else needs be said. I'll continue anyways though. I don't know who is going to be gullible enough to believe this but wouldn't regular glasses do the same thing and provide the benefit of better vision? These are fancy reading glasses that supposedly make the image better (somehow). This is as silly as the happy pills that I saw advertised on TV (I'm seriously someone was selling mood pills for real).

Also, can you wear these glasses... at night?

Its a luxury item, people buy the expensive ones because they are the expensive ones. I guess if you hang on to a set of 100 dollar eyewear for a year or two and wear them frequently it was probably worth it anyway. In any case, 100 bucks isn't the optimal price, but its far from a shocking one.

In before the Modern Warfare Easybake Oven.

"In combat, you can't use a regular oven or microwave, they put out too much heat, and make you easy to spot. With the Modern Warfare 3 Easybake Oven (C)Activision 2011, you get all the cooking power of a regular over, but stealthed!"

Uhg.

So...that badass part, where does that enter? Because those glasses look shit.

you know i saw this and think to my self, damn this will be included in one of the limited edition COD:MW3, there stock went up 4 points in my book

then i read the article, and it went down 10 points

does Activation like to be hated or is there marketing department that inept

*Makes glasses that should really help gaming*
*Make it worth 2 Modern warefare 3s"

God I hate these people.

Edit: ah double post!

HAHAHAHA

Oh god I can't stop laughing

HHAHHAHA JEEEZ

In Russia you can buy Glass lens sun glasses for around 7-10$ its only over here where glass lens are 50+ i have no idea why, Unless you count the plastic lenses.

Again brand names are created for those who are desperate to show they are above others at all costs

what they fail to understand is the pain from prolonged use of eye glasses and good headphones ... this will create a similarly painful experience and is thus foolish.

plus you will instantly be deemed a douche for wearing them.

WHO KEEPS BUYING THESE STUPID THINGS??? Yeah..all caps was need to express my frustration.

Mark D. Stroyer:
Um...no love for Deus Ex? I mean, really? This look downright nerdy in comparison to those awesome specs.

Im actually wanting some of the Deus Ex sunglasses.

But then again, I like all things cyber punk.

OT:

NO, THIS HAS GONE FAR ENOUGH.

We do not need "special edition X" that are inspired by games.

The Black Ops jeep was stupid, and I really doubt anyone bought one, but paying $100 for glasses to help you "game better"? what?

This is stupid, but one solace I can find from this is the ability to know who are geeks for MW3, and promptly punch them in the face "IRL".

Hopefully I will be able to break their waste of $100

I want the Deus Specs too.

Although I think installation would be a tad painful, so I'll stick with the ones for Team Fortress 2...

This seems idiotic, but for some reason I can only think of this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2LTL8KgKv8&ob=av3e

I suppose if they were boasting 3D for MW3 and these things could be used I could see it, especially if the things worked with regular 3D TVs and whatnot. At least then you can say you're buying it for something other than the fact that it's Modern Warfare-related. Still...gamers have paid more for stupider and stranger things. Not to mention a large part of the mostly non-gamer demographic will likely buy this game. You know, the ones who also find it acceptable to go out and drop say a hundred bucks on a pair of shoes or on a shirt or outfit or something equally kinda silly. It takes all kinds. I'd be willing to bet this thing sells, absurd as it may be.

Wearing sunglasses indoors? I can finally act like David Caruso!

"look badass"

... riiight. Not look like a giant CoD nerd at all, nooo.

EDIT: For a comparison, it's about $30 to get the same tint added to prescription glasses. And regular glasses look worlds better too.
