Portal 2 DLC Emerges in October

image

DLC for Valve's portal-based puzzler is out of beta and releasing on time - October 4, to be exact.

If you've been sitting motionless in front of your TV ever since you finished the Portal 2 co-op campaign, you probably should have played something else in the meantime. For the rest of you, you'll be pleased to know that the long-awaited DLC pack for the game is coming your way October 4th. The update will be available through Steam, Xbox Live Marketplace, and PSN, and best of all, it will be free on all platforms.

While the DLC pack won't expand Chell's single-player adventure, it will add "Peer Review," a whole new cooperative campaign for robot pals P-Body and Atlas. Details are scarce about the new mission, except that players will "once again match wits with GLaDOS," the nefarious, off-kilter AI. The DLC will also introduce a "Challenge Mode" for both single-player and co-op play. Players will be able to compete for the best scores and then compare their rankings on Leaderboards.

Valve recommends visiting the game's website for 24 new tracks from the Portal 2 score if you simply can't wait four more days. In the meantime, I've experiments to run and there's research to be done, so I'd better finish it all before the DLC hits.

FREE DLC,it's like a dream come ture.

Free, even on the xbox? Well, that's something :p

Challenge mode? Not a huge fan of leaderboards.

More happy about the music than the DLC - love the final third of the game!

Probably won't play it anyway, haven't even started co-op mode.

Wasnt this DLC supposed to be out in summer?

Either way at least we get it for free, as if we could dare to expect anything else from Valve after 4 years of free addons for TF2.

Aww, I'm a social hermit, guess I'll be watching Let's Plays on YouTube. Still. It's free, it'll be fantastic and it's more Portal 2. I definitely like the sound of Challenge Mode. Valve are doing it right again.

So this means we'll get it next Friday? Anyway, I and my friend can't wait until we'll be able to kill each other in co-op again.
Also, you forgot to mention that there comes a neat little comic with the music.

So, I plunk down the money for a copy for me and a friend, and as it downloads, I pop over here and find out that free DLC is arriving in four days.

AWESOME. This is going to be a good week.

Also, they released volume 3 of the OST. And it's awesome.

I laugh at that sentiment. It went from summer, to "mid-september so technically it's still summer" and now to this.

Please not I'm not complaining, merely lightly jabbing. /Can't wait for the free awesome dlc that I would of paid for.

To bad there's no news on a better way to access custom maps outside of using the dev console, something along the line of how tf2 or left 4 dead does it, hell even portal 1 had the maps pop up in the game menu for easy access.

Must... resist... using... obvious... tired... meme...
You want more content
Take it
That's what we're counting on

You used to be out of puzzles
but
Now all your free time is gone

Yep.

Oh Valve... you so silly.

Also, hooray for free stuff!

EDIT: Oh look, Want You Gone is in the third pack. YES!!

Is it free? Or do you have to pay for it on certain places? Main question: IS IT FREE ON PS3?

Cool that was sooner than I thought :)

Should be was on other valve games like team fortress 2 and left for dead/2...later they were forced to charge for 360 so not sure about the 360 but PS3 you should be safe

Yay free fun stuff to distract me from the inportant things :)

The day before my birthday? awesome.

Not that I'm complaining about free DLC or didn't think it might be a tad late knowing "Valve time" but summer is over, like really over it's proper autumn now, not at all surprised if it gets "just slightly delayed ;-)

Wouldn't mind some single player expansions but the humor of the MP were just outstanding, maybe time to pick it back up for a few more tests. Testing is fun! I'll just go die a few more times ;-)

yeah I mean, I'm impressed Valve, Going by Valve Time this is them releasing it EARLY (going by valve time ''Summer''=''Mid September'',
''Mid September''= ''October''
and ''October'' = 5th of February)

How did they manage to get it free on Xbox Live?

Also, I'm waiting for this headline on October 4th.

BREAKING NEWS: Free Portal 2 DLC will be released... eventually.

It almost seems like they want people to make fun of them because of it. Still, I'm happy this is finally coming out. It gives me another reason to start playing Portal 2 again!

Really? It's going to be free? Sweet!

Hopefully I can get my consoles to get back online before then.

So on october 4th we get the Apple "Let's talk iPhone" event AND the free portal 2 DLC!

Hmm... Could the Source engine be made to work on iOS devices? They already ported unreal engine 3 so the source engine should be relatively easy

Out before the end of September my pasty white ass. I am dissapoint valve.

was hoping for some SP levels. dont play the coop mode. but well, i guess the challenge mode will do fine.

Ah man! and my Co op buddy's internet goes down now!?!

Guess I will have to wait a little longer than most.

I think you should read the entire original post before asking questions.

Isn't that the same day as Dark Souls being released? Sorry Portal, you're being ignored.

You being a little insensitive maybe?

You probably don't want to hear it but A) It's free. B) The longer it takes, the better quality it will be. C) Every developer company delays releases every now and then.

So give them a break maybe?

Me too. Never even tried the co-op, because I don't have Steam-friends.

I wish I had friends.

So because it's free I'm not allowed to call them out on setting up people's expectations for it to be out before the end of September? Yeah, I think that's something of a lame reason, considering the DLC requires purchase of the game before you can use it, IE it's still not free. I wouldn't have said anything if they had instead shifted to the vague release time of "this fall" after they failed to get it out over the summer. When you narrow it down to a month, it's generally expected that you be able to deliver on that window of release. It may only be 4 days after, but October 4th is still not in the month of September. They can push a release date back as many times as they want as far as I'm concerned, just don't push it back after you're already late.

You're right by the way, I didn't want to hear it because I didn't need to. I was already well aware of those three points. "Free" is not a viable excuse for missed deadlines, especially when it comes to a company as big as Valve. It also doesn't exempt a company from complaints about said missing of deadlines and last minute announcements brought on as a result.

Horrible,absolutely horrible ._.

That said it feels great we get more co-op missions hopefully these will be challenging seeing how I and my friend played through all the missions in about 4 hours.

Hi! What do you think DLC means? Of course you need to buy the game to use it,and itīs free you purchased the game and as bonus you get some extra stuff. I won't argue about the date since valve is valve, they never have anything out on time, always been will always be.

Eh I'm not upset about there not being any SP content. The story was wrapped up so perfectly, there's just nothing more you can do to it. Or atleast nothing more needs to be done to it....

No single player free expansion this summer like Valve promised?

I'm not surprised.

The least they could do is get the map editor finished, but this is Valve we are talking about.

Seriously, Valve has been sucking ass. They haven't released a 'full' game since 2004, and more than half the games released on STEAM are shit. I'm really getting fed up with them.

If I was a multiplayer type, I probably wouldn't feel this way. But I'm not, so I do.

'Full' game meaning a single player experience more than 5 hours.

Sounds pretty good. I'm actually more excited about the full free soundtrack, but I'm more of a music person anyway.

By the way, is it just me, or is the date stamp on the original post over 11 years ago?
Posted 3 September 2000 5:42 PM.
Everything after is from this year. Weird...

W00t! Finally! Both the final part of the soundtrack and the DLC in 4 days!!
Weee!
