You would be able to make another angry metal song though! OT: See, I knew it. Better to shoot down my inner hype before it is proven false.
This totally reminds me of the cheesefest "The Number 23", where the number 23 was being found ABSOLUTELY EVERYWHERE. Personally, I'd be more wary if there WEREN'T any subtle coincidences.
To further clarify, they're all "one of the everything guys," pretty much. They don't break people up into teams or anything; whoever has time and interest in contributing such-and-such to such-and-such a project does. Which basically means the reason there hasn't been any word about Half-Life in four years is that everyone who might have been able to contribute lost interest or got distracted by the Thnikkaman or something.
I am disappointed, but my faith still stands. Valve wouldn't abandon their fans just like that; that would be an idiotic move, and Valve is not a company of idiots. It's the only game company that I dare to put the most trust on. Just give me the goods eventually, Valve, and they better be in master quality.
Why do I get the feeling that this is going to turn out like the Life of Brian for some people?
I hope it is cancelled, Valve create some great games, but they've fucked up so badly here, I don't even want HL3, but I just feel so embarrassed for them.
well i guess 12 years between hl2 and hl3 !
So, no matter what Valve says about Half-Life 3, the mere fact they use it in a sentence is translated as positive news about Half-Life? That's sad.
Valve, please release episode 3 soon. Your fanbase is starting to lose its sanity. We're slowly turning into conspiracy theorists.
I stand by my theory that they won't build any expectation, have any marketing, and just release it one day on Steam, as a complete surprise. Maybe on the 10 year anniversary of HL2?
When ever someone tries to put some kind of meaning to a number you will see it more often then not. However that means nothing in reality.
Mass suicide starts in 3...2...1.
If you had read the post you would have seen that the title is just the escapists regular exagurated titles...
This is an extraordinarily silly idea. Valve: "We have enough money, we don't need to make HL3." Give me a break.
Slowly? I'd say most of you are already long past that point and running to "totally wraparound gibbering idiots" at Mach 2.
This a load of crap. | |
Well, it can't. | |
Valve are the greatest trolls I have ever seen. Not only have they been trolling us for so long but they haven't even had to do anything, they just letting the community troll themselves. They don't need to spend any money on marketing when they finally announce HL3, the fanbase has been building up hype, fustration and longing all by themselves with nothing to go on.
I'm pretty sure Half Life 3 won't happen at this point. I suspect the team just kind of burned out on doing the series, and have been working on everything else in the interim (Portal2, Left4Dead, Team Fortress 2, and technically DotA2). Personally, if I were Valve, I'd be working on a new game engine to replace my aged (and well used, mind you) Source Engine. Half Life 3 as a launch game? A strong possibility.
They release it, they don't release it, whats the difference? Its not like everyone is going to stop buying Valve games if they done. Why dont people just wait to see what happens instead of trying to foreshadow everything? *sigh* If Valve have made anything apparently, its that they will tel us when they're good and ready, and not one second before.
Good. The other HL games SUCKED. Seriously no good story and made a lot of ppl nauseous.
Is it bad that I kind of hope it does so that I can laugh at everyone again?
Yeah, that about sums it up.
I saw the headline and shrugged. Good games, but not the greatest. And I figured the headline was meant to draw attention. I read the article and the only thing that popped into my mind was that Lanthanum was the name of the rare earth element supposedly used to build jump drives in the old Traveller RPG. Odd thought all in all. Now a Traveller RPG on the computer might get me excited...
If HL3 or Episode 3 or whatever is made, than they must first "Leak" trailer footage that makes HL(Episode)3 look like a modern fps. Think about that for a minute. Gordon would only be able to posses 2 weapons at a time, Vehicle rail sections would be mandatory, and It would have multiplayer in the game. Not as a separate package, in the game itself! And Russians would be involved. It could turn out that the Russians are (Somehow) responsible for all of earths problems and Gordon must then kill a stereotypically evil Russian leader.
At this point I can no longer tell if they're trolling or serious. QUICK PLAYING WITH MY HEART VALVE!
Honestly, I would say it's never going to happen. I gave up wishing a long time ago. If Half-Life 3 ever does come out it will most likely not live up to expectations. Near not possible at this point. Oh well.
"Valve: There is no Half-Life 3" Then I read an article about a week old news story that says nothing about the game itself. Disappointed Escapist.
In a very sad note, do you guys realize there are people who died while waiting for HL3? EDIT: by this time, I don't even care if it's gonna be "good" or "bad", I just want to get my fix on HL! Just don't make it shit and go on with the damn story! Who is G-man?? Who are his employers?? STOP NOT-TELLING ME!
Their hint of "a game with a 3 in it" probably refers to Episode 3, which is theoretically supposed to come BEFORE HL3 itself, if HL3 is coming at all. Also, there is room to milk Portal for another sequel if they really want, so they could be trolling us by planning to unveil Portal 3, and I wouldn't mind using the ol' Portal gun in the outside world. There's also a potential Left 4 Dead 3, or a Team Fortress 3. Really, ALL of their biggest franchises have sequel openings and would be going into a 3rd game. Their hint of "a game with a 3 in it" isn't even really telling us anything when you think about it.
He didn't say Half Life 3 wasn't going to happen, nor did he comment on Gabe's announcement on something with a 3 in it. Don't scare me like that Greg.
Just....Give us something. Anything "Gordon and Alyx Boned after killing all the aliens. the end" see? easy.
Okay, here are my overall thoughts on Half Life 3: As far as a supposed ARG, I think people are a bit off their nut with this. Seriously, talk about an over-analysis. I didn't see anything indicating or suggesting an announcement of a Half Life game.
I don't see anything with the lights, but I suppose the fact that the stockings have Half Life characters names on them may suggest that Valve hasn't forgotten about the franchise. Of course, the best thing is what appears to be a Gabe Newell plushie under the tree.
You're right, it should be a PC exclusive. I'M KIDDING. True, I am a PC gamer, but that would be way too cruel to the console crowd. However, I have to disagree with that. Waiting for the next-gen consoles truly would be suicide for the franchise. While Valve hasn't yet announced HL3, as far as I know, there is no new consoles by Microsoft or Sony even remotely on the horizon. I'm sure they'll appear, but making a new console (or any new electronic device for that matter), is a major deal requiring a massive industrial effort of both hardware and software engineering, as well as rigorous testing. Wanting a developer to postpone their game in order wait for hardware that doesn't exist yet, would be like telling them to shoot themselves in the foot. PC gamers would be absolutely livid if Valve, a company that largely caters to the PC market, were doing this for any game, let alone Half Life. Delaying their dev cycle for speculative hardware to arrive doesn't seem like something Valve would even consider. To all the people saying it won't happening, it's irrelevant, ect.: Well, unless Valve's new slogan is "We hate money." Half Life 3 will definitely happen. It has a very large fanbase, with HL2 being one of the most critically acclaimed games in existence. It got a meta-score of 96. Metacritic can have issues, so I'm going off of the critics scores, not the users, who can troll or be fanboy-ish. 81 positive reviews, 0 mixed, 0 negative. That's quite a feat. Valve created a unique narrative with an interesting world, and focused on a handful of characters that the player would grow to care about. This is why it's frustrated to Half Life fans. To put it into context of other games, it's as if BioWare decided that Mass Effect 3 was not worth it or, if after the end of Halo 2, Bungie decided to call it quits. That would probably irk quite a few people. The best example could probably be Star Wars. What if, after The Empire Strikes Back ended, and all that shit went down with Han being snatched, Luke finding out that Vader was his father, setting up for some finale, Lucas just decided "Eh, fuck it." and never made Return of the Jedi. Well, that's sort of how Half Life fans feel. We loved the story and characters, and want to see it play out. What I think happened:
If I were Valve, I would take this opportunity to do some ACTUAL trolling. You know, drop a bunch of '3' and 'Lambda' related codes and phrases and stuff into every one of their press releases, even though they aren't working on it. It'd be fun to watch the fanbase go wild with enthusiasm, and then progressively insane as time passes. Is it weird to want this? :P

I'm beginning to get the impression there will never even be a HL3.
