Federal Court Rules that the X-Men are Not Human Pages PREV 1 2 3
As far as I'm concerned, the court can die in a fire. X-MEN. Man. Person.
Well, at least the US legal system has it's priorities in check.
why do tarrifs like that exist in the first place, why the hell is one piece of plastic taxed differently? this is the most stupid thing i've heard this year and quite possibly last year aswell. man am i glad i am not an american, i would be pissed at this blatant waste of government resources.
But in the end, they are arguing about plastic lumps shaped differently from other plastic lumps. In the end, they are still plastic lumps. Its kind of like how some people make such a big deal about killing children in video games. They are pixels that do not exist, so it doesn't matter.
Maybe Magneto really was right. =/
uh-huh... so, anyone with a mutation, such as that girl with 8 arms in india is technically not considered "human" now? and therefore, by extention, stripped of her human rights? great going Toy Biz, setting up precedent for future racism/speciesism oh, sure, this is only relavent for toys at the moment, but you know some dickwad is going to murder someone for being different and try and use that as an excuse. also:
Yay, chalk one up for the little guy* *= and by little guy I mean, multi-billion dollar corporations that make huge profits thanks to outsourcing of manufacturing jobs to china
.. Wh-what? Alright so first Congress debates whether if pizza is a veggie or not (which they decided it is an overall veggie..) and now the Federal court debates if the X-men, fictional characters (and the toys) are now considered non humans.. just, why America, why? I'd like to say that's just awful. If the X-men were real, this would be truly hurtful. Just because they are different, does not make them any less human then we are. It'd be like if we took Dr. Who into federal court and decided he wasn't a human for whatever reason mainly because of his abilities or influence in the real world. That's just, really uncalled for let alone not an issue to discuss when we got far more important things to go over. I'm starting to highly doubt if any of these people are concerned for the citizens who are struggling everyday in life. I bet it's because since their lives are alright without much worry that their concern only focuses on what matters to them, even if it's as little as what to consider fictional characters like I stated. Come on now...
Nice to see that the U.S. federal courts are handling cases that really matter... We have high unemployment still, the gap between the rich and poor is getting bigger, but by God we had to make sure that mutant characters WHO AREN"T EVEN REAL are not human. That's what's really important. /end sarcasm This is the kind of shit that makes me lose faith in humanity sometimes. Or just the United States.
Except that they are Plastic Lumps whose shape can mean the difference between paying $100 million to ship them in, or just $50 Million. That's not exactly a frivolous lawsuit. This is why the Court of International Trade exists; to handle disputes regarding the United States' international trade laws. If a company thinks that they're being unfairly taxed, the court gives them a chance to voice their opinion to the government. In this case, the government agreed, they were taxing them too much. To settle whether fictional characters are human or not was not the reason the court heard this case. They heard it because a law was applied wrongly, and a company got screwed out of millions.
Why do I have a feeling this is a chekhov's gun setup so that when mutants really do appear on the earth, the courts will already have made to legal decision to not treat them as human? ...I really need to stop turning everything I read into a plot.

Good old court system. Deciding decade old matters, half a decade after they cease to matter. Well done. Seems a bit behind, really.
