Evangelion and Bleach Manga Coming to an End

image

Long-running manga, Bleach and Neon Genesis Evangelion are finally winding up.

While it seems the anime series is doomed to be dug-up and remade every half-decade, the next volume of the long-running Neon Genesis Evangelion manga adaptation will be its last, according to publisher Kodokawa.

Created by Yoshiuki Sadamoto, the Evangelion manga began back in 1995, and was originally released to promote the TV series of the same name. It quickly diverged from the plot of the anime and went on to be a huge success, despite its molasses-slow release schedule - only 12 volumes of the manga have been released in the past 17 years.

This week also marks the beginning of the end for the crazy-popular and seemingly omnipresent shonen manga Bleach. Shonen Jump has announced that the manga is entering its final story arc. Of course, Bleach's story arcs can last for years, so don't expect the series to go away any time soon.

While I have a soft spot for Bleach - the anime adaptation is the televisual equivalent of heroin, I've sat through entire seasons in a slack-jawed stupor - I do hope that once Tite Kubo has finished rolling around in the vast piles of money he's made, he'll return to his unfinished earlier work.

So, we have one manga that's ending nearly a decade after the series it was based on, and another that will end decades before the anime based on it. There's a pleasing kind of symmetry to that.

Yay, someone else who knows about zombie powder. I couldn't agree with you more although I do find that the anime does drag when it gets into some of the fillers.

Oh no, the end of Bleach?!? My old flat mate Malik might actually have to go out and do something!?!?

Although, I wonder if it gets a happy ending...

Bleach is coming to an end? Hot damn I didn't think that would ever end!

Kinda makes me sad though, and I kept forgetting that the manga for Evangelion was still going as I was more familiar with the Anime.

Bleach has entered its final arc, but knowing Kubo, it's gonna last at least two years.

I read somewhere that the Mangaka of Bleach wanted to make it last for another 10 years which I surely hoped this final arc doesn't last that long!

My only real concern is just what might take up the popularity vacumn left in Bleach's wake.

The only other good Shonen series i can think of, and will still be around when they go, is Beezlebub.

Ya... my thoughts exactly, or they will make a new Bleach, and have more adventures... It's not like they've already done close to that.

Well there go another two of the "never ending" animes...hopefully all similar series will go the way of the dinosaurs as well. I mean you can only have so many "OMG WTF THIS VILLAIN IS THE MOST POWERFUL GUY EVAR!!!" only to say the same thing about the next villain in line, and so on.

Inuyasha was a crap series, but at least it had the same villain the whole time and he just kept getting away...kinda reminded me of Shredder from the original Ninja Turtles cartoon. Every episode he pops up to commit some random act of villainy that would ensure Crang's victory in some vague, ambiguous way...only to be defeated by the turtles and try again next time.

I can't believe Bleach is still going in the first place. The story arcs have always been way too long.

And maybe when the Bleach anime finally ends because of the manga's end, they'll make another Bleach anime that only follows the manga and only focuses on the characters we actually give a shit about.

Wait, evangelion had a manga?

*runs to amazon and to find my moneys*

Oh dear god, I remember reading the only books of Zombie Powder. I'd be on that like a crack addict on... well, regular powder.

It is nice that these things are drawing to a close (although I had no idea Evangelion was even still running). To bastardize a quote, "You either die a hero or live long enough to become utter trash".

Whether its soon enough is anyone's guess, but hey. That's how it goes.

It's weird... but I'm kinda glad Bleach is coming to a close. Don't get me wrong, I did like Bleach... until it became too long with overpowered villains who won't JUST FREAKING DIE ALREADY!

Ahem.

Not sure about the Evangelion manga, though, seeing as I never read it...

That's sad and all (I've heard good things abotu the Evangelion anime) but seriously Gainax, when are you going to get round to releasing part 3 of Rebuild of Evangelion? I'm fricking dying over here!

Huh. Bleach is actually ending. That's... weird.

I liked Bleach at the beginning, but then it became monotonous. Not just because of the overpowered villains; apparently, no one in that universe knows the definition of the word 'ultimate,' because they kept using it for every single freaking upgrade to their power beyond two. It got old.

HAHAHAHAHAHA Sorry but the EVA manga is NOT ending yet. Vol 13 is being released shortly and contains chapter 90 which the source states is the last one. Yet it's already been released in Young ace and does NOT end the series. Vol 13 WAS stated to be the final volume in 2006 though.

Neon Genesis Evangelion Manga kept going on and on? I stopped reading them after like the third or fourth book.

The main character never got a break or happy day, when you thought he'd get one it just got worse.

So no, I'm not gonna keep reading it if you keep screwing over the main character so damn much.

As for Bleach, I'm fine with the series and I actually like it. I am though amazed how no one seems to bring up anything about the length of One Piece. It had 200 more chapters over Bleach.
All though I wish One piece could on for a lot longer. Just love that manga.

Beelzebub and Toriko are also quite fun to read.

Heh. Hehe. Nice.

Q (part 3) is coming out in Japan in 2013. So...here in 2020.

Hehe, silly people...Bleach Ended after

Never really was invested too deeply in Evangelion so i don't think

If there's one Manga i wanna see an ending too above all, it's berserk. Seriously Miura, how much longer is it gonna take? I realize you subscribe to the 'when i feel like it' school of publishing but jeeze..

Still, here's hoping the movie series eventually comes out over here...soon

I recall reading somewhere that we're at about the 3/4 mark.

Bleach ending is no great loss for me, as I felt that Bleach became far too ridiculous even for a shounen manga. Though I think that was mainly because it dropped almost all of it's humour after it entered the Soul Society arc. I think that humour is kinda important in any series that doubles every characters power every volume. Still, I did follow it until the end of the Arrancar: Downfall arc (though I dropped the anime way back during the Bount arc), so I suppose I can't say I hated it completely.

Maybe I'll read the rest of it after it ends. In the meantime, One Piece can continue to provide my weekly dose of shounen. Oda hasn't stopped adding humour to his ridiculous world, after all. ;)

hmm bleach is ending not sure if that is good or bad depends on how they end. better not be a kill the main character ending

Haven`t even heard of an Evangelion manga, and that is disappointing indeed.
But about that Bleach thingy: I like Bleach, it`s fun to read, haven`t watched the anime that much, but still, it`s entertainment. Tho i have to admit, the last, short-ish arc did feel a bit, well, too much. I found that the previous arc would have been a nice enough final one. But that`s just my opinion.

Well now the REAL Angels have come for Evangelion.
Anyway thanks for reminding me to get back to reading the Bleach manga. And One Piece, and Naruto.

Neon Genesis Evangelion was not a 'never-ending' anime. The show has 26 episodes, and a couple of films. Everything wraps up in the end. It isn't pleasent, or even at times logical, but believe me it ended quite assuredly.

I grant you Bleach though, jesus I didn't think it was possible to go on so long, and I watched all of DragonBall Z......

I'm just as surprised as how quickly the (surprisingly good despite clearly being put together to undo it's last end point) last arc ended as to see that this indeed was the final arc.

As for Evangelion, I'm sure we'll just have another manga run to explain what the fuck the ending of this one will be.

So we do agree on some things! Imagine that. I always thought ff13 fans were a breed apart

Can't share your sentiment about the Bleach anime. Censoring, subpar animation in several episodes and worst of all, the padding/filler, have all ruined it for me, though it certainly does have its moments.

Seeing as it's been announced that it's the longest arc yet, we're looking at least a few years.

As for Evangelion... I've never been really partial to the manga. Rebuild on the other hand, has proven to be a lot more satisfying than the original series, for whatever reason.

And Asuka with an eyepatch? Me gusta.

Hey, if Evangelion, can end, there is still hope. New chapters have come out recently.

For me Bleach ended in Soul Society where it was evident that swords don't kill people...

Bleach ended when the soul society arc ended. It was the only good bit and the rest is just fanfiction that somehow managed to become a part of the story. I never got into EVA but Gurren Lagann was pretty sweet so I might check it out. Then again I'm not into the dark and gritty stuff so I might stay away.

Goodbye Bleach, I can't say I'll miss you.

It feels weird having Bleach finally come to an end oh well

It's not good by any stretch of the imagination. It's just like white noise really, I watch it when I need to think. It did briefly flirt with not-sucking during the soul society arc though.

The Bleach manga isn't all that great either. Kubo has no idea what he's doing with all those characters and it gets to the point where fan favorites just get shit all over (Chad). The art is fucking awful (Need more white backgrounds, kubo?). Bleach ended right after soul society, it's all gone downhill from there.

Rebuild is better I think, because Anno is more mature now than he was when he did the original, he's got a healthier world view and it makes watching the remakes more enjoyable.

Funny thing about DBZ, the creator actually wanted it to end with the Freiza saga. That's why the fight takes so long and Freiza's got so many forms. it was supposed to be Goku's epic final battle on a world that was blowing apart, in which he achieves the legendary power of the SSJ.

:P As for Evangelion, yes, I know the anime itself was only 26 episodes, I was refering to the manga.

But yeah, I read Bleach up until they defeated Aizen, at which point I promised myself I would stop. Aizen was as close to a god-villain as you can get, anything after that would just be lame.
