An Explosive Mass Effect 3 Trailer For "FemShep Friday"

It's FemShep Friday and that means a brand new Mass Effect 3 trailer starring a slightly different-looking Commander Shepard.

The latest Mass Effect 3 trailer sees the end of the world through a different pair of eyes: those of FemShep, the female incarnation of Commander Shepard, the hard-driving, ass-kicking, take-no-crap savior of the galaxy. The trailer itself is pretty standard fare as far as these things go, a blockbuster mish-mash of explosions, gunfire and brief snippets of dialog establishing Shepard as an above-the-law renegade who will do what needs to be done, but there's no denying that Jennifer Hale nails it square. This is as Mass Effect as it gets.

So who's playing a FemShep? I'm all about DudeShep myself - BroShep, whatever you want to call it - but there seems to be a lot of interest in going to war as a heavily-armed heroine rather than the traditional square-jawed slab of machismo. Hey, as long as you know a thing or two about killing Reapers, right?

Mass Effect 3 comes out on March 6 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

FemShep is lookin' good! Too bad my previous saved games are with standard ManShep. Oh well, can't wait for this game!

I personally play as DudeShep most of the time, but I do have a femshep save.

That was a pretty badass trailer, and I spotted a few familiar faces: Jacob, Miranda, Samara and Legion.

I hate to be negative, but she looks almost as wooden as Sheploo. I'll stick with custom faces.

The thing that interested me more about this trailer was that we got to see some ME2 characters. It looks like Jacob, Samara, and Miranda do show up.

I really enjoyed watching this trailer, it's only pushed my anticipation of this game even higher! I didn't think it was possible.

However... Something about her face really seems off to me. I just can't put my finger on it. Ah well, that's what customization is for!

I never noticed how emotionless the faces are until now. Why the hell is this just now happening? I remember it in ME2 but did not care but for some reason that emotionless stare seems new and wrong yet old and wrong at the same time. I mean damn i ran across bandits in skyrim with more emotion.

I am too damn much of a proofreader. I both noticed and got annoyed by the trivial odd italics on that line.

They call me MisterShep.

As long as my FemShep character carries over they can put whoever they want in the trailer... but it was nice to see.

Well, one thing about Bioware, once they pick a design philosophy they stick with it.

Heck yeah!! I cant wait to play it~ It looks like its going to be good

My first impression is that this is the first trailer for ME3 that makes me want to buy the game. My second impression is, "wait a minute, that was all cut-scene footage!".

Now don't get me wrong. I've slogged through a lot of bad gameplay for some good cut-scenes. But then again, I've never paid full price for a game I bought for the story.

Glad I didn't pre-order...

For a lot of people the choice comes down to prefering Jennifer Hale's voice work over Mark Meer. And I'm sure there are some the other way, too.

Never got the whole 'Femshep' thing. I always liked my broshep just fine, but to each their own.

Those dam bureaucrats and politicians on the Citadel go on about 'procedure' and 'protocol' and throw femshep out on her ass. But as soon as the shit hits the fan, they all come flocking back to her.

Once school is out I am definitely creating a female Shepard for ME2.

You mean the ONLY Commander Shepard? FEMSHEP ALL THE WAY, BITCHES!

Bioware:

Stop with the trailers! You. Are. Killing me! The next month is going to be torture!

And stop teasing me with the N7 Collector's Edition! I know it's awesome! I know I want it! But I don't have the money! Leave me...

Right... fuck it. Anyone got 70 I can borrow? I promise to pay you back on time scale between now and 2 years from now!

What's this about FemShipping Sheppard?

...what? Did I read that wrong?

I've played through ME1&2 with a few files, so I've got 2 male and 1 female Shepards. My FemShep's face didn't deviate much from the standard face. With the male ones I got as far away from the standard face as I could - seriously, it looks off. Really off.

Feels weird because my Sheppard is a bit older+ darker skin and hair, so there's a bit if a discord for me between the voice and the fem-shep in the trailer, but aweso e trailer non the less

YES! Excited Toombs is excite! FemShep is finally getting the attention she deserves. :3

I saw nothing in that trailer that made her out to be the renegade version. Everything she said, male Shep said also. Unless he was also doing renegade stuff. Will have to wait and see.

What had me excited was confirming other characters: Jacob, Legion, Kaiden (who I have heard about, but not seen yet), Samara or her daughter, and Miranda. Still waiting on Kasumi, Zaeed, Kelly, Grunt, Wrex, Tali, and Jack. I know they've confirmed some of those characters, but I want to see them. I wouldn't be surprised if they saved Jack until the actual game. They keep saying how she's changed, and I bet they don't want to listen to the rage that people will no doubt be yelling.

Is the game going to be that dark, or is that just the trailer? Because I thought Shep had bright red hair, not reddish-brown. My Shep has bright red hair. I hope the game will be much brighter when it is on my system.

You know a ton of people have been complaining that the trailers so far don't show enough of the story? Even though fans (myself included) complained that the trailers for ME2 were too spoiler-laden.

You can never win.

OT: Said it in another thread, but her design is really nice. Most of my FemSheps look quite derpy (except for my last one...who kind of looks like a bitchy version of my ex-gf. Weird, I know), so it's cool to see one who looks like an actual person.

In other news, the demo is coming this Tuesday. That means my hiatus from the site will begin, as I hide from the inevitable wave of spoilers and premature hate.

Hell yes.

Superior voiceover ahoy!

Although Meer did improve between ME1 and ME2. Maybe he's raised the bar some more this time around...?

As for the rest of the trailer:
- Did that car-hopping ninja have a Cerberus symbol on his chest?
- Hey hey, looks like we'll definitely be going to Geth central.
- Pretty sure that was Legion, complete with hole.
- Biotic curb-stomp. Me like.
- First sightings of Miranda, Jacob, Kaiden and Samara. Noice.

I'm so annoyed by this whole FemShep thing. It's absolutely fine if you want to play a female Shepard, I don't want it to seem like I think a male Shepard is better, it's all personal preference. But what is up with this ridiculous amount of attention this whole thing gets. To me this is like Radical Feminism: does it progress the idea that women are as capable of men and deserve to be on equal grounds? No, it doesn't. Anyone who thinks this is some form of championing of women... I just don't see it.

This trailer does look pretty exciting... it's too bad I have committed myself to not supporting EA for their business practices. At very least, I won't buy it till it's cheap. I'm sure the game will be a fine game though. Also, since the news of the whole saving your save game thing came along, it's actually kind of annoying that this isn't going to end the series. No one seems to believe in ending on a high note anymore or just finishing a story. It's like book series that do not have a conclusion. They are just terrible when you can endlessly make stuff up to go with a character that goes on forever. Sounds to me that a few people could learn a lesson or two from the likes of James Clemens or David Gemmell.

'This isn't about strategy, or tactics...'

Oh that's just great.

I'm don't like how they are still running with the 'bureaucrats are bad' theme. I mean come on...

Zhukov:
Hell yes.
As for the rest of it...
- Did that car-hopping ninja have a Cerberus symbol on his chest?

There's some speculation that the ninja-like Cerberus character might be Kai Lang, a name of which means nothing unless you've read the books.

OP: I need to stop watching these, as it's already difficult waiting for early March without being reminded about how I'm not playing it yet.

I haven't read the books, but I'm pretty sure I've heard of him.

Illusive Man's cleaner, right? Not to keen on aliens or something?

That all depends on whether he does what I tell him (occasionally telepathically!!) to do! We've, ahem, had words in the past.
Never occured to me to play as ShepMcBoobs, not sure why. Also not sure why the DudeShep VA seems to cause so much grr-ness. Never bothered me!

Glad to see Captain Awesomenderson is back though.

That's him. Rather fond of cereal, too.

what the fuck is motherfucking femshep friday? fuck.

And has Bioware advertising always been this in your face?

This is a good list of things to know about Mass Effect that aren't in the games. I have read the books...sometimes I just want to be a fanboy, dammit! Haven't touched the comics, tough. I've just never gotten into that medium at all.

Why does she look nothing like the FemShep on the boxart?

C'mon Bioware, if you're gonna get people to do your job for you, at least make the character look right.

oh no bioware, don't trouble yourself to give returning characters new outfits or anything.

I got the impression that he was irritated that no actual game play was shown rather than any story points being released, or no as the case may be.

Not my femShep but still badass. I love Jennifer Hale, she brings femShep to life. Can't wait to play ME3 and see all my old squad!
