Mojang and Humble Bundle Team Up for Charity

The darlings of indie development and distribution have joined forces to create a brand new game for charity.

Don't take this the wrong way, but if it isn't indiscreet; what are you up to this weekend? I wouldn't normally ask, see, but this sounds like something you might like: this weekend, Minecraft developer Mojang will spend 60 hours creating a brand new game for charity. Humble Bundle will livestream the whole development process via its website, and we gamers get to decide the game's genre and setting.

The circus begins at 10 a.m. CET (GMT+1; 4 a.m. EST) on Friday and will continue for the next 60 hours. Anyone who donates during production will, according to Mojang's blog, receive a copy of the completed game as well as "maybe some other fun things too."

Additionally, Mojang has set up various "silly" incentives for reaching certain donation counts. It'll also be running a few staff Q&As and giveaways to make the experience of watching people code as scintillating as it can possibly be.

You can vote on your chosen genre and theme right here; the highest and lowest results from each will be combined to create the game. The possible combinations are frightening (I went for a Shoot 'Em Up Fantasy game, in the hope of helping create something like Skyrim 2033), and it's nice to see "Peter Molyneux" recognized as a genre at long last. What would you create in 60 hours if someone told you only that it had to involve Molyneux and "Candyland" as set themes? Ah, fun and charity.

We need a Steampunk Dating Sim!

Sincerely, The World.

Current status: A Steampunk WWII RTS Shoot-em-up.

ALL OF MY MONEY.

Come on Peter Moleneux horror!

We need more people to vote for WWII to kick it out of the bottom slot..

Personally, I was hoping for a dungeon crawler racing game with a candyland horror theme.

I'm hoping for a Steampunk Egyptian RTS Driving game. Just cause that would be the most outrageously crazy game.

Sounds strangely endearing!

Let's just hope it doesn't become TOO popular, because then they will make a movie out of it, and Johnny Depp will play the lead role, and thus I must start resenting it.

Whatever comes of this will be interesting. Hmmm, going to keep this in the back of my mind.

Irridium:

Isn't that every game he is remotely connected to?

So far it looks like RTS, Shooter, Steampunk, WWII...not exactly ground breaking.

WWII is off the bottom! Huzzah! Now if we can get another 500 votes for it, it'll be above Candyland and we can start working on getting Ancient Egypt up as well.

Deffs gunna throw em a couple of hundred. Payed $110 for the humble bundle.

RTS + Dating sim = whatisthisIdonteven-

Actually, I want to see that combo.

Technically, all of those could be combined into the most badass, weird, slightly uncomfortable mash-up ever. I would pay tens of cents for a game like that! Tens!

Indie developers get exposure, charity gets money and the gaming community will be seen as generous, kind human beings.
This is definitely a good thing. :>

Damn I will never get my racing horror game now. Only 2 gallons of gas left, your car gets 17 Miles per gallon and all the signs are in KM.... Can you do the math, pick the right route, and drive away to safety before the monster gets you?

Vrrm Vrrm meets Shrieking brakes.

This fall

Cars 3: Bad Trip

As of right now its at steampunk/Egyptian. That actually sounds pretty sweet.

When I voted Steam Punk RTS had a slight lead.
YES!!!

I have no idea how that would work, but I know I want it!

MAKE IT SO!

(I went for a Shoot 'Em Up Fantasy game, in the hope of helping create something like Skyrim 2033)

If you mean like Metro 2033, I don't think you know what a Shoot 'Em Up is. Think Galaga, but with more bullets, at least 10x more bullets and enemies, that's a Shoot 'Em Up.

I think something more like C.A.N.D.Y.L.A.N.D. Something dark, scary, where you are a lone wandering trying to survive the post-apocalyptic forces of delicious sweetness and hell. And where blow-outs are like an enormous pinata explosion with much destruction. And Twizlers are a hand-to-hand weapons. And M&Ms are ammo or food. Peanut M&Ms are armor piercing. The Zone is a sweet shop of death.

A dating sim shoot 'em up set in a post apocalyptic candy land. Now that's a game I'd pay money simply to see how it would look and play like.

So... Desert Bus with Game Development instead of a horrible game? Awesome.

I really hope RTS pulls out of the top spot. Just because it's a genre that doesn't seem like it'd mix well with other genres, and would likely end in frustration. Or because I don't like it. One of those reasons. I am interested in seeing Steampunk Ancient Egypt though. That sounds interesting... though Serious Sam already cornered that area. I'd prefer Steampunk Candyland.

I hope RTs keeps the top spot, because we need another awesome steampunk RTS

A Steampunk Ancient Egypt RTS Shoot-em-up.

Mother of god......

Beat 'em up Date Sim in Steampunk Ancient Egypt, you say?

That's....

Yeah...

Need more (or less) Peter Molineux!

Would be so hilarious to get him on Skype as a special guest or something :D

Wait are they talking about a shoot 'em up as in bullet hell shooters? If so STEAMPUNK BULLET HELL!

Hasn't that already been done?

...and I'm hoping for the genre to be Peter Molyneux, though it looks unlikely at this point.

I was going to donate but then I saw that steampunk was winning. Needless to say, do not want.

I want a post apocalyptic dating sim.

Heh, I know - but when I voted, FPS (more Metro) and Horror were wayyyy near the bottom of their respective polls so I was hoping that by bigging up Fantasy and Shoot Em Up I could be part of assisting in the creation of Skyrim 2033 on shoot 'em speed (basically, an attempt at tactical voting...which failed). I wonder if the creation tools for Skyrim allow for Lydia with a shotgun. Or is she more an AK kinda girl?

Right now, though, it looks like we're getting an RTS Shoot 'Em Up set in Steampunk Ancient Egypt...er...

Im gonna have to give it a pass, im going to be busy doing something seriously awesome this weekend.

EDIT: Did vote for a Fantasy Dungeon Crawler though, neither is at the top but I wouldn't mind it being Steampunk themed so long as it isn't an RTS.

It would be really cool if they released the source code when they finish.

Awesome! Polls closed and we are getting an RTS shoot em up with an ancient egyptian steampunk theme!

If you search hard enough, you will find that which you seek. I already have 2 dating sims which spring immediately to mind. Wouldn't fit the steampunk theme perfectly, but it sorta reminds me of it, definitely post apocalyptic though. I assume you mean visual novels or something similar when you mention dating sims yes?

Honestly, I don't really care. I just voted for that because I thought the result would be ridiculous. I never really had any intention of playing the end product.

I also just wanted to expresses my hatred of steampunk.
