March Mayhem 2012 Begins! Vote for Your Favorite Developers!

There can be only one!

Greetings game fans! It's time once again for The Escapist's March Mayhem, our annual event to determine your favorite developers in the gaming industry!

This year, 64 contenders composed of 2011's most loved developers will battle for supremacy in a month-long elimination tournament, with the winner being honored as your favorite game developer. Your votes will determine which developers will win their match and move on to the next round.

Not sure what March Mayhem is or how it works? Check out our handy tutorial video below!

The first round of voting starts on March 8th, but starting today, you can fill out your own bracket with your predictions of who will win or lose each round. Each time your prediction matches the community's votes, you'll earn points and move up the leaderboard towards fame and glory.

One grand prize winner will walk away with a top of the line Origin gaming computer, and a lucky runner-up will receive a 32 gig iPad 2! Winners will be announced on April 2nd.

Here's where you can check out the full details on March Mayhem 2012, start filling out your bracket, and get info on all the developers participating in this year's elimination tournament.

Good luck!

Holy crap...it's this time already? How time flies....it feels like it was only last year this happened...wait.

o.0 is the video really necessary? it not a hard thing to figure out .....

I'm having a slight issue with the voting. When I get to the finale match up and vote it goes pale when it's loading and keeps loading but at the same time gives me the "Thank you for voting!" bit but still keeps loading. Does this mean I have to wait till later to make my final vote or not?

Why did they included Zynga again? Jesus, remember what happened the year before last?

Anyone else having "Guerilla Games" (I think you guys are missing an "r" in there) come up in the vote page? I just get an empty box vs. Day 1.

The year before last, actually. Last year everyone ganged up to murder Zynga in the first round.

Whenever I fill out these brackets it comes down to bioware v valve in the end...and wheres Blizzard on this list?

Edit: Blizzard isn't anywhere. Wth? SC2 in 2011, Diablo 3 coming out this year, no blizzard?

Something I was wondering, are we only taking into account games that the developers put out in the last 12 months, or are we comparing each developers entire game catalogue?

I remember this coming up a lot last year after Mojang knocked out Nintendo, but I never saw it answered.

I went with mostly personal preference based on what they did this year. Except with Bethesda, who I just had win every round because I know this is a pointless formality. They're going to win, because Skyrim, bugs and glitches be damned. Still, some tough choices... and some, not so much. Looking forward to the actual voting.

Ah, my mistake. Feels shorter than that for some reason. Maybe I didn't do it last year.

Aw man, I really got unlucky with the groupings this year, most of my favourites are pitted against each other, if not in the very first round, then shortly afterwards.
Speaking of which, Taleworlds page for me is broken, when I vote in my bracket the box telling us about the dev is empty. I know it doesn't have much chance to win against Valve, but still...
Oh, and why are Silicon knights there? I'm not trying to disclaim your choices or anything, but it seems there are so many other more deserving devs.
Also, where's Blizzard?
I guess what I'm saying is I'd like more details on the picking process.

Really though, I still have my March Madness picture logo thingy from two March Madnesseses ago

Damn it Bethesda, why must you take down Relic? I guess we won't be seeing 'em in the Top 4 this year. Just release Dawn of War 3 ^^.

SC2 came out in 2010.

Aussies can win!!! Woohoo! Go! Team Bethesda!

It's called "getting old". Happens to the best of us.:)

Maybe. Last year was the Mojangheim Steamroller.

So many companies I've not heard of, and yet no Blizzard is there. I am quite confused...

Actually it probably had to do with spending 90% of my time dealing with my IB diploma stuff and the pre-college things. Guess I didn't pay attention last year after filling out the bracket.

So, did Blizzard win "lifetime achievement" and get removed from future brackets?

Terraria's Re-Logic is up against Bioware in the first round?? Nooooooooo!

I <3 Terraria so much, but I'm not certain it will win. (Even though it should!)

Wow... there are some interesting inevitable matchups. I'm betting Bioware will get the epic rematch versus Mojang that all the people were whining about last year, and there may even be a Valve versus Obsidian match. The heat is on...

Yeah I noticed that too
What's up with that? They're one of the biggest developers world wide.

they should have different leauges for indie and normal developers

It could. It may be the Mojang/Nintendo match up of this year. People are pissed about Dragon Age 2 and paranoid about Mass Effect 3. We will have to see if fans out way the haters.

Its an interesting set this year, no Namco, no Square Enix, no Blizzard, no Bungie, no Activison. Instead it is the year of the indie developer.
Should be interesting.

Same deal for me. I'm leaving the window open because i'm afraid I'll lose it all if I don't.

I bet Valve takes Bethesda in the semis. SKyrim is (in my opinion) the superior game, but the way that Valve works and stays connected to their huge fan base, plus the power of Steam I think will bring them through. Only to lose to Bioware in the finals because of upcoming Mass Effect 3.

Every time I click the 'bracket' link, it doesn't work. Please help!

SO, this will be my first year actually participating in this. Anyone know who took the top spot in previous years?

If Mojang wins again I will set fire to every small woodland creature I see for the entire month of April. They have made one game in their entire existence which wasn't even that great. *notices angry mob closing in* I kid I kid minecraft was a load of fun. Aw fuck it *runs to the hills with flame shield*.

Turbine, Turbine, Valve, Mojang. Runner-ups have been Harmonix, Bioware, Bioware, Bioware. Also know that there is a good amount of animosity towards Turbine, more towards Mojang, and scary amounts towards Zynga.

I feel that I should warn you that a flame shield will not be enough. I'd recommend a full blast suit, with dual shields, leather-reinforced exoskeleton, really good quality oven mitts, and all the water you can carry. I'm not kidding.

I think it's because they didn't create a splash in the last year. Still, with Heart of the Swarm and Diablo 3 coming out, it's a weird omission.

With this event I always end up partly voting for who I *think* will win, and partly who I *want* to win.

As a result I ended up voting for the obvious(Valve, Bethesda, etc), whilst also voting Turbine wherever they turned up.

Because LOTRO, that's why. Of course they probably won't even get past the first round, but I'm going to be naive. :P

I guess it's about time to escape from the escapist for a month...

*sigh*

Heh yeah, this, of all things seems like the type of discussion that would get web-surfing gamers riled.

Well... you know... more so than usual.

Bit of an odd thread as MM has not begun and we have not started voting all this is for is predictions and not the actual competition.

never really done march madness so i filled my bracket out with personal choices

Get inside! I'll pass out the m-16's, we'll fight off this mob to the end!
