Another French Retailer Outs Black Ops 2

Another French Retailer Outs Black Ops 2

Another French retailer has dropped the dime on Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.

Activision reportedly got its panties in a pretty good twist a couple of weeks ago when the French version of Amazon let slip that the Call of Duty iteration for 2012 would be Black Ops 2. The product page was taken down quickly but not before it was seen and reported on by Gameblog, which quickly led to claims and denials that Activision had blacklisted the site for refusing to pull the story.

Now comes a report of yet another French retailer, Fnac, and yet another advertisement for Black Ops 2, this time with the added bonus of a release date: November 12, to be precise. That ad vanished shortly after it went online as well, but once again it was captured for posterity by a quick-acting website, in this case Gamepur.

Activision hasn't yet commented on the situation and, given the stink that followed the Gameblog situation, will probably either just ignore it this time around or take the standard "no comment on rumor and speculation" route. And really, what's the big deal? A Black Ops sequel is as inevitable as the sunrise and even if November 12 is a straight-up guess, it's hardly a great act of Kreskination: Every Call of Duty game since the dawn of time [or at least since 2006] has come out in the first half of November.

ALL OF MY WHY!

Dont make a freaking sequel to a game that's only a year old!

I dont even get why Activision denies it in the first place. Anyone with even a slight bit of foresighting ability could see that CoD would get yet another sequel.

If thats a gripe with you you should be shouting at EA for far more than just Call of Duty can ever ammount to.

I'm getting more and more on board with whoever said they should name them after the year they're released, Call of Duty 2012 etc.

Are we sure it's a French retailer? The language in that ad...isn't French.

That's brilliant. I will start refereeing to them like that now.

When a Frenchman wants your release date, he'll give it to you.

Yeah.. Not French. Maybe Italian?

Hold on my French colleagues I got this for you!

Bobby Kotick: "Hello Bobby speaking"
Sush: "Bobby K, its me Sush, we need to talk about all these French sites leaking the latest CoD game"
Bobby Kotick: "Yeah that's awful, can't those Cheese Eating Surrender Monkeys just stop leaking this information before the right time?"
Sush: "Its because France is ahead of US timezones by 6 to 9 hours, they are effectively reporting this information from the future, during the time when press gagging orders are over"
Bobby Kotick: "Oh yeah I forgot about that!"
Sush: "so how's the kids?"

and the day was saved.

FNAC is French, did you think of the Gamepur link which is in English?

How do these guys make the game in that amount of time? It's no wonder there aren't really any significant changes in the last handful of Call of Duty games. I'd even argue that there hasn't been a significant change in the Call of Duty franchise since the transition from Call of Duty 2/3 to Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare.

I'm pretty sure that's Spanish what with the "el" and me checking Google translate

FNAC is definitely French, but it has outlets in other countries as well. That ad is from its Spanish subsidiary.

And apparently I attached the wrong image to the post, so thanks for the indirect heads-up on that as well.

Didn't Black Ops finish with a pretty self-contained story? You stopped the Soviet Nazi gas but killed the President (maybe)-end of?

Could we be the Soviets this time? Or just not the WASP faction?

Oops, sorry guys I speak Spanish and since I'm a Frenchman I really couldn't notice it myself, my brain just processed it in the same way cos I'm used to it.

I was really confused when a couple of users where saying it wasn't French, I was like, "of course its French" but I got it wrong!. Those Latin based Languages are so alike.

I still stand by my thinking that the TF2 Spy is French and not Italian like a few Escapist users think, he speaks French at the end of his Meet The video.

Anyway, OT, The French get another scoop and annoy Activision, rock on le chaps!

No it ended in sort of a cliff hanger. If you read the intel it says that Woods maybe still alive and captured and apparently the CIA has Operation Charybdis.

From the wiki.

Nothing more than what I've come to expect from Activision. The least possible work put in to another rushed sequel, indiscernible from the rest of the series.

I felt like a dumbass not too long after posting that, but it was too late.

I attribute it to living in the US, where I'm not used to seeing stuff like that.

Oh viral advertising, could you be any more blatent. Any year without a COD game to rag on intently or treat as a religion/job [depending on what you think of it] just isn't complete.

Very much agreed. COD is stating to have more in common with 'Madden', 'Pro EVO', 'FIFA' etc, with the amout of games they release.

Tis Spanish, methinks. (It certainly isn't French or Italian, that's for damn certain)

OT: It was only a matter of time. Wonder how long it takes Activision to throw their toys out of the pram and start hurling imaginary threats about this time. Or when they'll cotton on to the fact that it's probably easier for all concerned if they just announce the bugger officially and get it the hell over with.

I might buy it if the Easter Egg is Return to Zork...and it includes the Encyclopedia Frobozzica. Otherwise, I'll pass.

IF Black Ops 2 turns out to be real, this will be my reaction:

It's from

Fnac is a French company. The leak, as pictured, is from its Spanish subsidiary. Technically a "Spain-based, French-owned retailer outed Black Ops 2" :)

Well, when Modern Warfare 3 was realeased a few months ago, it would occasionally crash while playing it, which is no big deal, that happens to all games, but the window it opened to say that the game had crashed read "Modern Warfare 2 has crashed", because someone forgot to change the message. When you remember that MW2 and MW3 were seperated by another game (Black Ops!) Yeah. That's a staggeringly innovative new game you got there guys.

There is literal truth in saying that they are repackaging the old game, adding a 3 to it and reselling it as a full-price new game.

I don't see what the problem is. Anyone who hasn't been living under a rock knows that Black Ops 2 would be happening this year. It's not like there are any released details about the game (I kinda wish there were) or some leaked screenshots or something.

It's just so obvious considering Call of Duty's release cycles. It goes: Modern Warfare, 'Historical' Warfare, Modern Warfare 2, 'Historical' Warfare 2, Modern Warfare 3, 'Historical' Warfare 3, and it will continue until the franchise dies.

The release date may have been leaked but Activision can do some troll maneuver and release it a different day to discredit the site.
