Assassin's Creed III Declares Independence from England Pages PREV 1 2 3 4 5 6 NEXT
Looking forward to it. Dreading the English accents, though. I can't tell if developers these days are trying to be stereotypical or just flat out don't realise there's more than one bloody English accent, but either way I expect a lot of soldier shouting "blimey!" and "cheerio old chaps, looks like I'm not long for this world!"
All we did was beat them in a few wars, and now they've got to be all passive aggressive about it!
Ok as long as every single Englishman isn't portrayed as evil templar bastards that feast on the blood of children i'm ok with it... Hey the American Revolutionary War is never the setting in anything ever so woo go newness!
I think our relationship with France nowadays is more of an inferiority complex/attention seeking. The UK economy is third biggest in Europe, France is second.
^^^This times a million. We really need to nip this "America was all mud huts and cabins at the time of the Revolution" nonsense in the bud.
You sir are a card, and you need to be delt with! On topic: i am seriously looking forward to this game, AC has been one of my favorite games for a good long while, was sad to say goodbye to the charming sexually promiscuous Italian (talk about racial sterotyples lol) Looking forward to getting to grips with a whole sack full of new weapons though!
The English are the bad guys? This reminds of that movie: Every Hollywood Movie Ever
Fortunately, they already have an established lore thanks to the glyph puzzles in 2 and Brotherhood. George Washington was a Templar, as were a few British rulers. Hopefully it will be similar to 1 where the Templars are a shadow faction playing both sides.
Well this is a win-win! First I get to kill Brits, second I get to watch a shitstorm involving Brits!
I'm on the side of heading back towards AC1 in the the Assassins are neutral, killing Templars on both sides.
What do you expect? Faux News like you said will have a field day if indeed has the founding fathers as antagonists and Ubisoft being French doesn't help the matter either. You know what it's gonna be a f***ing miracle if those assholes didn't cover this. But then again there's no such thing as bad publicity. right?
I don't think that's really the best place to choose. There are a lot of places with better themes and more important events.
I would like when Yahtzee review this. Because he will be killing his fellow Englishmen in the game.
Oh good, the one thing America and France can agree on: Limeys suck. Also, this thread makes me think of this:
Oooooooooooooo | |
While this will certainly be interesting, I was really hoping for a game set in China. Embers strongly hinted at it (I was hoping that Shao Jun would be the main character.) Perhaps with the conflict centered around the political intrigue between the Ming Dynasty and Tibet. In addition, the presence of the Polos (Niccolo and Matteo) in Revelations also could have been seen as some foreshadowing. A game set in Kublai Khan's reign, where the main character (obviously not Shao Jun, since this would be 300 years or so earlier) would get to interact with Marco Polo would also have been pretty fantastic. China had the huge, old cities that the franchise is so good at portraying, while having a distinctive style and political setting. It would have been quite awesome. I should also point out that this new character doesn't necessarily HAVE to be a descendant of Ezio and Altair to be an ancestor of Desmond. He could be from the other branch of Desmond's family tree. Ancestry isn't just a single line, it's convergent. Ezio's descendants and this character's descendants could have joined their families farther down the line and produced Desmond.
Taking out leaders on both sides of the war makes sense. It certainly fits with the style of the first game. I think that's another reason why he's a Native American- it allows him to operate more loosely concerning either side of the war.
I have to say, I'm terribly disappointed they didn't change the design on this new character much from the last one. Everyone else will be in new and interesting costumes, shouldn't the player get something more... appropriate? It's going to be hard to find suspension of disbelief if this guy is walking around 1700s America in that and not constantly being suspected for one thing or another.
I'm assuming it will be a mix. After all, the thing about the AC version of the Templars is that they transcend conflicts such as this, manipulating things behind the scenes on both sides. After all, not all the enemies in the first one were Crusaders, and not all the enemies in Revelations were Byzantines. I would also like to state SIGNIFICANT APPROVAL for the new costume. Conspicuous? yes, but I don't care. It looks awesome.
Man this looks awesome. It sucks I have to plow through the rest of Brotherhood and then Revelations before this. Bleh, I don't enjoy filler.
Damn, was hoping the next one would be the Russian Revolution But, American Revolution should be very cool as well. Seeing as it has to take place in a major urban centre (without major gameplay tweaks) I'd say it'll likely take place in Philidephia, seeing as you'd be able to interact with Washington, Adams, and maybe have Franklin be the new DiVinci! Other then that, will guess that the main character is likely going to be part native American. Reason is Philadelphia was founded by William Penn, who fled to America to escape persecution of the Quakers, and wanted to make a place where everyone could worship freely. As well, he created a very good relationship with the local natives as he bought the land from them, despite it being 'granted'. I'd guess, if the main character is on the American side (likely), he'd have Oneida heritage, as they were one of the two tribes that sided with the Americans, as well, assisted Washington in Valley Forge.
so what your saying is that most of the civilians are american? this pleases me
I get the terrible feeling that Britain is going to want to ban this.
Is there really another reason to stick Desmond in the Animus? I thought they had all the info they needed by this point?
So you all know that Ubisoft Montreal is in Canada and not France, right? I think my biggest gripe with the game is the box art. Did we really need the colonial flag waving in the background? Why not superimpose a bald eagle in there too?
The only problem is you'd stick out like a sore arsed Red Coat in those clothes.
Pandering to the American fan base. Just simply pandering.
Of course there is. People eat up Assassins Creed games like there's no tomorrow. Next thing you know, they'll have you controlling a Desmond relative in the future, going into the Animus to control Desmond going into the Animus.
Dammit, stop killing my dreams of a potential funniest moment in gaming mission where you assassinate Rasputin! The Russian Revolution game will happen, dammit!
Just like the last three were -totally- pandering to the Italian fanbase. I think their just trying to make the entire conflict more 'global' in scope, as in, moving out of the Middle East, and Europe.
As refreshing as it is to see a new character in a time and setting that games rarely get set in,it does seem to be wandering close to the 'America rules everything' mentality that many games and movies employ. I'm really hoping this isn't going to be America = Aweosme, British Empire = Evil Imperialists.
Was I the only one hoping for paris during the french revolution or victorian london?
If it makes you feel better, Desmond's story will end at some point and will probably be replaced by another "main character". If it doesn't cheer you up, have a cookie?
Let's put some context into this. America celebrates three wars, and only three wars: The American Revolution, The American Civil War and WW2. The rest of the areas were interesting, but you don't have Christian Crusades celebrations, nor Renaissance. You also have to remember that the countries that have been explored have a small minority in terms of computer games players, at least compared to Eastern Europe and America. You also have to consider that in terms of sheer recognition of historical events, America is the key country that does it. I really do not know of a country that celebrates historical events as much and as often as America does. To add to that, it gets tiresome to get the whole "America is awesome" crap in a lot of games of this kind. Hell, even delving into Canadian or French history (I did actually hope for a French Revolution game) would of probably been more interesting to non-Americans than this.
If he's Native American I think it will bring an interesting aspect to a colonial storyline. Oh and I have to agree with people in the facebook comments and say 'How the hell are the going to do parkour in the undeveloped American countryside...' :| Perhaps they will have a completely new gameplay style.
Ugh, I knew that this was the most likely setting, but it does feel so lame to me. Perhaps its just because I'm an American, and as such have had the revolutionary war thrown in my face repeatedly since i was 8; but i find very little interesting to explore in that time period. I was really hoping for the French revolution, or something Asian. From a gameplay perspective I'm worried because guns and horse/wagon combat were the worst parts of the previous titles, and i don't see how a setting in the late 1700s can avoid using them heavily.

Deriving from the original idea arent we, the assassins were supposed to be neutral.
But, why do I sense some controversy potentially spreading from this title. If the founding fathers were supposed to be templars, and the assassins are supposed to eliminate said templars................FOX NEWS WILL HAVE A FIELD DAY!
Especially with an election on the horizon.
