Diablo 3 Beta Goes Public This Weekend

So far I'm not impressed.

Torchlight feels much more like Diablo than this slightly darker WoW with a pseudo single-player mechanic that won't work if you have no internet connection, or if Blizzard's servers are down. I don't care what changes are made in the main game... the always on DRM is enough to keep me from blowing $60 on it.

I think I'll stick with Torchlight if I want to play a Diablo Game.

Played for about 5+ hours last night trying to level my wizard to 13, have the day off work and plan on playing some more. It's addictive as hell, especially the skills past level 10. People here complaining are complaining about the dumbest things imaginable! Oh noes, the first 20% of act 1 on the easiest difficulty is not hard! I don't have to use potions in the first two hours! WHAT!? CRAFTING IS TOOOOO EEEEZZZZZ, remember in d2 you had to put things in a cube and hit "transmute", now that was an exciting challenge! Last but not least, THIS GAME IS LIKE WOW, so lame!! /plays torchlight (LOL)

Seriously, bunch of debbie downers.

Artemis923:
I hope the game's more stable after I pay munnies for it. I had some lag problems and my PC's pretty damn god.

Yeah that happens when its played over a Live server "Battlenet" :) still happens in D2 on b.net :P also if you live in europe the lag was mostly because the beta servers was in the US :) like me i live in europe, i had 200 ms but never really had lagg problems only from time to time there was a major lag for 5 seconds and that was it :)

I like how people continue to call it a beta despite the fact that it bears painfully little resemblance to anything they plan on shipping.

They altered the game to the point where the achievements are demerr...'beta'-only, and there's a screen at the end that says "You have beaten the beta." There's absolutely no indication that the miserable auction-house code is in, and, as was mentioned, there's no real customisation of anything beyond the ridiculously limited 'crafting' system, which boils down to nothing more than the same gambling you had from Wirt et al.

This is like they made a Diablo game without actually knowing anything about why people played Diablo 2 for so long.

Blizzard betas usually bear little resemblance to anything they plan on shipping. But at this stage, I'd say it's very similar to what they plan on shipping.

You know, the actual game. Not the achievements and auction house. The game. That you're going to play. Remember that?

As a person who didn't play Diablo 1 or 2, I couldn't really find anything that makes me say oh wow I want to drop $60.
I got to the final guy in like 45 minutes and it was like ok.
I think the only thing I really enjoyed was the Monk player character talking to the companion warrior character, just the whole both being insane zealots and what not.

While I appreciate the "fuck Diablo 3" sentiment present with the people saying they'd rather play Torchlight, I have to turn your attention at another game.

Path of Exile. It's [going to be] free, too.

2x 1-minute unplayable lag sections, in the middle of fights.
1x "The game has disconnected."
Various "Oh, you thought you picked up that gold? Ha!" moments.
Many, many "How is that thing hitting me from twenty feet away?" moments.

If there is even ONE of these present in the final build, it is perfectly legitimate grounds for complaint. These things should not happen in singleplayer. Ever. BAD Blizzard. Bad. No cookie.

Can't we all just get along?

I plan on buying both Diablo 3 and Torchlight 2. I've also put $60 down on PoE, and $100 down on Grim Dawn. I feel all these games are worth my money and I shouldn't just have to choose one.

Who said you have to choose? Please, go ahead and play whatever appeals to you.

Oh wow, thanks for bringing this to my attention. I'm definitely looking forward to that now.

Tho as a Diablo 2 veteran, it's sad that stat point customization is gone, but that doesn't ruin my enjoyment.

Yeah that alone won't ruin Diablo 3 for me either.
That + the pay to win auction house + only being allowed to have 7 skills + respecing skills which IMO lowers replay value and should not be in RPGS.
Those factores all combined make Diablo 3 a crap game and for a Diablo 2 veteran like me make me weep for Blizzard has ruined there only good game.

The way i remembered it, in Diablo 2 there were usually mostly around 5 skills actually used at once (varies between classes), others were just used as prerequisite or synergy skills.
1, 2 attack skills, some defensive buffs and whatnot. So thay way i see it, Diablo 3 actually offers more or at least same amount of skills to be used at once...

I quess they can't just please everyone. But for this veteran, Diablo 3 will suck up too many hours of gameplay.

You guys are hilarious. You all seem to think that you're entitled to play the beta in pristine condition. You're not, you're in the beta this weekend as bodies to break the servers. This weekend Blizzard is basically cutting the number of servers down and increasing the traffic by many times to see how their servers break. That's the point. Breaking the servers so they know the limits of their programming and so they can better deal with servers and transfer loads when the game actually goes live. They're not trying to sustain all of the players at once, that's why it's so laggy, they're trying to break the servers with you in them to see what happens. I'm just happy to actually get to see part of the game before it goes live. You're not entitled.

Too bad its IMPOSSIBLE to install >.<

Normally I might check it out, seeing as Diablo has a history and all. But I'm gonna be a bit busy with another public beta...

Totally doing this. Can't wait!

After 6 hours of playing in the Open beta, I can safely say; Love it!

I had some doubts about all the changes as an outsider, but after getting my hands on the game, I still feel the Diablo lure in Diablo 3. Getting equipment is still alluring and most of the abilities are incredibly fun to use. The big packs of monster are also quite exciting to fight as you have to duck and dodge around when you're level appropriate.

Ignore haters. Enjoy Diablo.

This game is going to be big.

Is there some other video I should be watching? I checked out the Templar trailer...it kinda looks bad. It's pretty, but it seems slow moving and clunky.

The skill tree in that game makes me want to throw up.
...
And I played Final Fantasy X.

I wouldn't dismiss it out of hand, as someone who plays in the beta, i say it's worthy to stand beside Diablo 3 and Torchlight 2.

The skill tree in particular is the first thing I saw about this game, and it made me giddy. It's certainly interesting, if anything.

My only question about this game is, will the dungeons actually be different from each other throughout the game? So far it seems all the dungeons except the cave in the beta all look exactly the same, with the same hallways and rooms just rearranged in a different order. I never played the other Diablo games or games similar to it so I really don't know what to except but will their actually be different looking areas or just the same dungeon look just rearranged and randomized with harder mobs and bosses?

That's how it is pretty much, and has always been. Same dungeons, rearranged everytime.

That's actually wrong. Some dungeons don't show up on every playthrough, the same with some enemies or events.

He asked about dungeon layouts and looks, not if they show up or not.

Oh, right. Well, just throwing it out there, then.

Via the pubclub here I donated a beta key to my friend for his birthday a while back. I have no interest in the game myself but I thought I'd flout the superiority of being a premium member mention it.

The always online requirement popping up more and more frequently these days is really getting annoying. I dunno if they changed their stance on it but EA said the new Simcity title would be always online singleplayer as well. Oh Maxis, I miss you being independent and hilarious.

My friend had issues with lag too and his computer is almost brand new.

Never got into Diablo, tbh, but I've heard a lot of hype and good reception from it, so I might try the beta just to see if I should pick up Diablo 3 when it comes out.

Always nice for public betas to be released to virtually everyone. ^_^

iv played all diablo games and i must say diablo 3 is goin to be a BIG FAILURE, i mean to think we have waited 10 years for this shit, i mean really and blizzard thought diablo 3 would pull players from wow hahaha what a fucking joke.i mean the only new thing about the game is crfting and an auction house i got bored playing after an hour.blizzard dosent know how to make something new anymore it seems they just copy old shit the did before just like sc2 which s exatly the same a sc1 exept the graphics.so hope that people who buys diablo 3 will think its worth the 60 bucks but i doubt it.

Hi there welcome to The Escapist.

Just FYI if you don't try and have proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation, people tend not to take what you have to say seriously. So if you want people to read and respect what you say I suggest making more of an effort to make what you say readable.
