WRPG: Save the world = best story ever made JRPG: Save the world = JRPG cliche would not play again
You know, I agree with you about how Sessler is regarding JRPGs, but that's his prerogative. He dislikes them, I don't. On the whole I still think he's probably one of the best guys in the video game journalism industry and I wish him the best of luck. He was funny and insightful, even if he really hated one of my favorite genres.
Sorry, I never found him funny. Saw a ep and my head hurt afterwards. And I can't find him insightful espesially since he has clear hatred for a genre just because its the cool thing to do.
I find him to be quite funny, and I hate to make the hipster comment, but he has been hating JRPGs since long before it was cool. You simply haven't watched that much of X-play. I've been watching it since G4 came into existence, and it was already a thing that he hated them. I am certain he does not hate them because it is cool. He hates them because he usually does not enjoy them. He loved FF12 by the way.
MrBrightside919: Adam Sessler deserves a lot better than G4 (the horrid thing it has become)...i've followed him since the days of Extended Play on Tech TV (RIP)...
Here's to greener pastures for you, Sess...
Oh man, I used to tape Extended Play if I was going to miss it. I loved that show, and Adam Sessler was amazing. Then X-Play came, and it was still amazing. But like so many others, the show slowly lost its way in my eyes, and I felt so bad that Adam and Morgan had to stay on the show. Adam seemed to want so much more--or maybe that was just me thinking for him.
This is shocking news. I'm sure Adam will be able to find a new job no problem--and probably already has offers on the table--but still, X-Play without him...hard to imagine. Not that it matters. I haven't watched the show in years, but still. Just...wow. I'll miss him. Hopefully he'll still do his little Soapbox thing whenever he starts his new position.
Pretty much everything was amazing before Comcast decided to merge Tech TV and G4 into the horrid abomination it is today...the only thing that ever stayed the same was Mister Sessler...

Either way, he cannot be considered "improving gaming journalism" if it means a whole genre gets thrown out. He's not improving journalism when he acts like that.
Xiado: Hire him, escapist. Get this guy before it's too late, he was one of the only reasons I went on G4, and probably my favorite person in the industry.
Yes! Escapist, go hire him damnit! I freaking loved him on X-play and it would be a fucking gem to have him here on the Escapist. :D
Please, guys. Find something for him to do and come up with a contract enticing enough for him to do it. The man's a gem.
God I miss the old days. Something about watching the old Extended Play series is just fascinating to see how far we've come, and yet Adam remained a constant.
Fappy: He finally left. Awesome, totally support this. Ever since G4 went to shit after merging with Tech TV Sessler has looked more and more dead behind the eyes. It's pretty evident he was just tired of their shit... at least in my mind.
I think G4 stopped being about games and technology about the time they put Cops and Campus PD on their line up.
OT:
I enjoyed seeing Sessler go head to head with Jack Thompson and even though his thoughts on games differ from what I think most times, His opinion is almost always backed up by facts, most than what other game journalists do.
Escapist, I will be a bit disappointed if you didn't get him as a guest reviewer or an article.
Sorry, I never found him funny. Saw a ep and my head hurt afterwards. And I can't find him insightful espesially since he has clear hatred for a genre just because its the cool thing to do.

You can't make him like things he doesn't. Also, if people don't like something that doesn't mean they can't improve journalism regarding it.
I really, really want to avoid making comments to effect of "Finally, he was too good for that place! Everyone else on G4 constantly acted like they were too cool for the gig, but Adam seemed to care about what he did."
That's unfortunate. Adam was the only host on G4 that I actually enjoyed. I remember hearing him on NPR having a go at one woman who was all up in arms about how GTA4 "encourages drunk driving". I wanted to give him an applause, he managed to keep his cool when that woman was so idiotic.
But hopefully now he'll get a better job. I'd love to see him on the Escapist, but I think that's a pipe dream.
I really hope he finds a way to stay involved. He really did fool me when I first saw his work I thought he was a fool. But then I saw his soapbox videos and was shocked at the depth and analysis he offered to the games industry and how active he actually is demonstrating how much he cares.
Simple, get rid of MovieBob, add Adam Sessler and his soapbox to the Escapist! Problem solved!
(seriously, just getting rid of MovieBob alone would be a plus! XD)
Why should the Escapist get rid of MovieBob?
Because we have enough self-entitled fuckwits on the Escapist as it is. Removing Bob and getting Sessler wouldn't be -1/+1, it'd be +1/+1.
I'm sorry what? I cant tell if you are joking or not. MovieBob creates great content for this site with Escape to the Movies and The Big Picture. Even though I don't agree with his decision to voice his hatred for high-school he still makes great videos. And he doesn't come across as self-entitled at all... The irony here is killing me.

Are we talking the same Bob Chipman here? The same Bob Chipman that had a hissy fit when The Expendables did better at the box office than Scott Pilgrim vs The World did and flat-out insulted anyone, and I mean ANYONE, that went to see the Expendables? If I recall, he called them the lowest of low-class, knuckle-dragging, drooling neanderthals if they dared went to see a movie that he didn't particularly enjoy over a "meh" teenage high school drama with a hipster/video game take.

Yeah. Bob's more than a bit self-important.
Well Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is better than The Expendables...
Not the point, sure he can be pretty vocal about his opinions but surely the value of his work is slightly greater than his potential for hissy-fits? Also, when calling someone a 'self-entitled fuckwit' and suggesting they should be sacked because you don't like them is actually funny.

That's a strange pair of reviews to go to the walls over. I've played both those games in the past year, my PS2 is still plugged in mostly because I'm still working through Gust's back library, but they're not really pinnacles of the genre. They're low budget affairs that do not compare well with AAA titles of any stripe, and I think they're exactly right to call them niche products.
Besides, if you fired all the reviewers who don't like JRPGs, there wouldn't be any left.

The same Bob "the Movieman" Chipman that spent weeks bitching about Mass Effect fans not liking the ending and simultaneously glossing over their qualms without actually addressing them.
Adam Sessler. It's been 6 years since I've even heard that name. When did he become bald? that's a nice beard.
I'm one of the few others who get nostalgic when hearing that name. I first watched extended play the few times it aired in my home town. Then X-play came along and was a daily showing(re-runs mind you, but never a year old) and me and my siblings would watch it nearly religiously. And they didn't just do reviews, they often did sketches too(Though I can see why some people might not like them). I watched the show until some time into the G4 era where less emphasis was put on fun.
It's nice to hear about him again. I really hope he gets back on the saddle again. I think he was twice the Yahtzee, years before Yahtzee came along.
I loved X-Play and Adam Sessler's opinion on video games and gaming culture, he was always so fun to listen to. When there was a marathon on of X-Play I would stick around to watch the whole thing even if it lasted until early morning, and I felt bad when I missed an episode. Hell even the E3 interviews with Adam Sessler were more lively and informative than any of his contemporary hosts, his co-hosts aside from Morgan were usually boring.
If I could get a DVD collection of X-Play and watch all the fun Morgan and Adam had on that show I would buy that in a heart beat.

Despite never having played the games.
To be honest I agree with him. I do not care about the Mass Effect 3 ending at all. I'm sure it was pretty terrible but to see the sheer amount of self-entitlement and mindless rage from the fans was actually pretty hilarious. Especially since it was to a company that had invested countless hours or time and millions of dollars to provide the game for the consumers. I'm sure most people are glad to see the fans bitching has died down a bit.
Ps. I have played the first Mass Effect game and own the second one, Mass effect is a good game. Just to clear up any potential misconceptions.

Well then you don't really get the point then, do you?
Saying "self-entitlement" is just a big glowing sign that read "I don't understand the variables, but I wanna talk anyway."
Basically, you're flaunting your ignorance in the matter.
The rage isn't mindless nor is it self-entitlement. The ending was fucking shit and is an insult to people who invested so much time into a beloved franchise with memorable characters. Worst of all, it invalidated their choices with three types of deus ex. And for what? Nothing. It did nothing, said nothing and left more questions than answers.

We are getting side tracked here, I don't care about the Mass Effect ending. We were discussing MovieBob. So what you are saying is that he should be sacked because he had an opinion? Because the examples you have given are simply that. Regardless of his sometimes childish displays I don't think he is invalid.
I freaking love Adam and I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing what he does outside of G4. I used to watch X-Play every day after school until G4 became shit. Maybe someday we'll have a real gaming channel again :|
Xiado: Hire him, escapist. Get this guy before it's too late, he was one of the only reasons I went on G4, and probably my favorite person in the industry.
Oh wow, I thought I was one of the few people that actually liked Sessler. I used to watch X-Play all the time and I loved every minute of it (back when it was Tech TV). I also loved that show Judgement Day, as well as a few others, but sadly they have all gone (for the most part).
Anyways, I agree with Xiado, if you can hire him. If not, have him come speak on Escapist about his future plans!

It is Entitlement. Or at least it is the way you had put it. You are saying the ending was "fucking shit" and after spending "so much time into a beloved franchise" you are in the right to whine? That is, at least what I consider, Entitlement. You feel entitled to have a better ending than what you got just because you spent so many hours into the game. Also, please don't pull the "They lied to me!" card as, in the real world, you will be lied to and you have to get over it. If your boss says "I will give you a raise!" one morning and changes his mind, would you whine and bitch over it? I would hope not as you would get your arse fired.
Oh wow I honestly thought this would be another "to start an Indie Company" article again.
Glad I was wrong.
But yeah, cool I guess.
