Adam Sessler Leaves G4 Pages PREV 1 2 3 4 5
you will be missed Adam.. I send you this tribute from your glory days on tech t.v
I would support the idea of hiring the guy. I could even help with getting into the Publisher's club, if the Escapist needed the money for that. I can see he's got an insightful mind when it comes to games and knows how to deal with trolls and whatnot. However, it seems his personal likings and ideas get in the way, like that MML3 comment. Really? You think no one was looking forward to that game? Did they ever bother to check Capcom's Devroom when it was open? I was part of it and there were tons of people discussing ways to make MML3 better every single day. And then they shut it down. Did they read the comments after they did that? Our comments, members of the Devroom? Just because they don't like the series/game and it doesn't look like a triple A game doesn't mean it's a shitty game and its destined to perish. Aside from that, he would be an interesting addition to the Escapist.
No great loss. Guy's awkward delivery was a flaccid payload of schoolyard insults and sardonic witticisms you could see coming from a week away, all thinly veiled behind a paper thin intellect. If ever he actually "told it like it is," it would be his ironic little skits. It was in them that his true worth shone right through with all the beaming clarity of mud. He reminds me of that twat Jim, here on The Escapist; so busy with pretending to know what he's on about and hastily rushing to justify every questioned quip with some shite about it being a joke or others in the audience (read: the intelligent ones) "just not getting it," that he forgot to ever actually contribute anything new to the discussion. Adam is to adult conversation regarding the art form, what a fourteen-year-old is to sex-ed--giggling, self-assured and utterly ignorant. But I'm sure all the guys think he's "way cool" for talking about that Playboy he saw once. Little less spotlight on ambitious morons and a little more on people who actually contribute to the forward movement of gaming.
So all that remains is morgan Webb. G4 does relize that they lose a very good person right? And that they are going to have a hard time with just her alone (not including Blaire)to be remain on X-play.
Damn, certainly wasn't expecting this! Adam is definitely a guy who knows his stuff, and he has been around for quite a long time. I enjoyed listening/watching his soapboxes and when he would host Feedback. Haven't seen X-play in a long time, but I remember just really respecting the guy once he had an online show. Haven't watch G4 in a long time. I remember watching older shows like Cheat and Cinematic, but I was never around for the TechTV days. Naturally all I would watch G4 for was the E3 live shows (which must be really exhausting for those guys), Ninja Warrior (which is nice to see have a big boom in popularity, got a bit boring after awhile for me), X-Play (but then I started getting my game info and reviews from online so...), and Attack of the Show, which I remember liking a lot. G4 always seems to have some cool people just end up leaving (like Patrick Klepick who is now at Giantbomb, and there was this one girl on Feedback called Abbie Heppie), but they seem to have some nice people that are still around (Kevin, Blair, etc). Hope things turn out great for Adam in the coming days. I'm sure he can land quite a nice job at some other gaming related website!
I'd love to see him at The Escapist. One of my favourite gaming journos.
Ha, well played, sir, well played.
Agreed. OT: Thinking about it, I kind of saw this coming. Blair Hurter (or whatever) was becoming a bigger part of the show and I could see him taking Adam's old job. But this is really sad. When X-Play and Attack of the Show come on, that is the best hour and a half that G4 has. Running shit re-runs of Cops, Cheaters, and Ninja Warrior does not make me want to watch that network.
I give this news a three...out of five.
Don't you mean, "Ever since Tech TV went to shit after merging with G4"? I really hope that is what you meant.
Looking unusually badass
Die Hard 5: Die Hard without Fear I always liked Sessler, but not enough to watch x-play. I know wherever he is heading he will do well, where will he be heading? Something independent?
Works both ways. G4 had some redeeming qualities back in the day as well.
I'm good with this news as long as Adam continues to do things like his soapbox, which sounds like he wants to do. Maybe he'll even try to get his own site going.
Ah man... Well, there goes my last reason to keep watching G4TV. Attack of the Show and X-Play were the only shows on that network that had anything to do with technology, gaming, and what was left of TechTV. Morgan Webb can't carry the show all by herself, and Blair Herter isn't nearly as fun as Adam. It looks like it's just KevinP on AOTS now, pulling weight. I'll still tune in come E3 time. I've watched their coverage every year and I can always hit the mute button whenever Blair opens his mouth. Good luck to Adam. I'll follow wherever he decides to work. I'm hoping either Giant Bomb or Polygon.
He probably got tired of that idiot Webb. Can't believe anybody would still watch any game-related show she's in after that episode on the Tyra Banks show all those years back.
This is part of the problem I have with him. I just can't take him seriously with comments like that.
Yeah, he's a bit of an ass. But it would be good for the Escapist to hire them, if only to gain a bigger audience. And we would have three pseudo-trolls: Yahtzee, Jim and this guy. I don't know if that's good or bad.
Not that G4 was ever remotely good. But it's probably a good thing to get rid of Adam Sessler. He was always annoying. Edit: Am I the only one here who doesn't like Adam Sessler?
Hopefully, this means better things for his career.
In all honesty I don't know if anyone is (or should be) surprised by this. If you really consider it, the signs have been there a year or more and it was painfully obvious that Sessler was preparing to bounce. I knew he was probably transitioning out the moment they brought that charisma-less frat boy Blair Herter onto literally ALL of Sessler's projects, from X-play to Herter's takeover of the Feedback podcast. It was clearly a changing of the guards taking place where Blair was being groomed to be his eventual suck-sessor (yeah pun intended) and with that, the channel ceases to have any relevance to me. Morgan Web is simply not hot enough anymore to keep me coming back to the Cops/TNG channel.
X-play used to be the main reason I watched TV. I hate to see Adam leave it, but I guess it's for the best since G4 has only been going further down the drain for the past several years now.
His follow-up piece about how scores are stupid and he hates rating people's games like school papers was rather brilliant. I just wish more people who buy and play games would listen to it and stop being so god-damn obsessed with pointless scores.
Agreed. | |
I'm hoping he'll be able to quickly transition in to a new job. Any gaming site would benefit greatly from hiring him.
Even though I thing The Escapist would overall benefit with have Adam Sessler being a regular contributer to the Escapist, I don't thing they could afford him. Not with all that dirty laundry being aired of The Escapist's pay disputes with other contributers. (the latest being Extra Credits) While I do enjoy most of the past and former contributers (and became a Publisher's subscriber to show my appreciation) I think if The Escapist is attract established talent, they will have to work on their PR a bit more as a reputable site to work for. But you have to agree, they are great for scouting out unknown talented contributers, most of whom I never heard of before they contributed here.
Could we toss Jim* on the curb too? I think getting rid of him would be a bit of a plus, I still don't see why he can't just do what he does for the Escapist on Destructoid. Honestly, he can throw his weight around, physically and verbally to where he could more then likely get a job anywhere in the industry. Having Adam do what he used to do without constraints would be nice. Still remember the Halloween episode where Aqua Man pulled a Jigsaw because the cast didn't like his game. Also, anyone remember Cheat! that show that was all about cheats and exploits in games? Does anyone else miss it? *Wait Mr or Mrs Administrator, don't drop your hammer yet. He's already got a very good gig on Destructoid, so they could always throw him the opportunity to do his own show, so no harm done right?
Adam always did well on Skits and, at least early on, highly cared about what he was reporting about. While reviewing he made plenty of jokes, he always had a flaming passion for gaming. Honestly, I like that better then a fat man in a red tie yelling at me for saying COD isn't a masterpiece [yes, you can go find the episode if you like] or that I wear very white makeup and are a douche for wanting games to have some actual meaning except for "GO SHOOT X!" or that I don't agree that the way to solve sexism is with more sexism. While that is his persona, a persona can still be personified as a dick. So either good job or more improvement man. Sorry, still ranting from above a bit, but Passion VS Throwing Your Notoriety Around For Bonus Points will always end with Passion coming out strong. Adam said and has done some stupid shit, but its honestly nice to hear from someone who only wants the best of gaming, not to be the best of gaming.
Wow. I completely forgot about the guy. I really need to catch up. Like the rest of you, I considered X-play (and Ninja Warrior) to be the only reason I ever watched G4. Those commercials and shows like Cops and Cheaters seemed so out of place in a network aimed at gamers.
Can't say for sure. Perhaps he was annoying. Still, he was surrounded my so many more annoying people on G4 that it made him look pretty decent by comparison. I guess we'll know for sure when we see him in a new setting.
To be fair, I always thought there were two Sessler. One was the comedian that was just annoying and kept cracking jokes only teenagers would think are funny (personally, I blame the writers); and the other one was the insightful guy that had a good soapbox, was pretty educated, has a lot of background in gaming and was there despite the focus on "pretty faces" by the network. The first one I will most definitely not miss. To the second one, I wish him good luck in the future.
So now Attack of the Show is the only reason I have to watch G4. I believe Adam Sessler and Morgan Webb were the only two people who survived the G4/Tech TV merger. Now Morgan Webb is the only one left from the Tech TV days I believe. Tech TV was when it was good with shows like Judgement Day, Cheat (When Cory Rouse hosted it), Filter (when it was a Top 10 only with video games), and none of the Cops, Cheaters, and Campus PD stuff. I also like when X-Play had all of the off-stage comedy sketches where they treated the interns like crap or just did silly and random stuff. Eventually it just became too serious and lost all of it's comedic value.
Adam Sessler was one of the few good things left about G4. I loved his soapbox shows, and when he hosted feedback awhile back. I hope he find a good place to work after this.

Holly Crud!! This came out of left field, we will miss you buddy.
