PlayStation All-Stars Looks Smashingly Familiar Pages PREV 1 2 3 NEXT
And that's why I love them, they take no shit from anyone ;P OT: If it plays as well a SMB it could be good. I'll most likely be buying this, would give it a rent first but unfortunately there is nowhere in my area that rents games/movies anymore.
Smash Bros is fairly distinguished in terms of fighting games, so it comes as no surprise that people are going to take the party-game-fighter approach sometime, but that trailer... Sony is barely even trying to mask the fact that this is Brawl with Sony characters. Nearly identical fonts, similar looking stages, Fat Princess literally just looks like an obese Princess Peach right down to her moveset, and they use the exact same colours for each player IN THE SAME ORDER ARRANGEMENT?! Right down to the little details, this game screams clone. Of course, no one can say anything about the quality of gameplay but Sony definitely was not thinking "original game" when they came up with this.
Nope. Children don't spend much time on forums.
Through footage, they've revealed a few more characters, I think. I don't know them all.
I see what you did there...
"Forgotten"? As a matter of fact, the Avatars were in development before the Miis were. They just came later because they're packed with a lot more complications and detail. Plus, it was a side project from RareWare.
Kid Icarus? Really? Was that thing really that popular?
"Clashing styles"? So, it's ok for Super Smash Bros., Capcom vs. Whatever, SoulCalibur and Mortal Kombat to do this...
I actually had to look up who that even was when SSB:B was coming out, and after some light research I pretty much thought the same thing, but to clarify I'm hoping they don't miss putting in some big Sony star because a character like Fat Princess took up the slot, if not then I'll welcome her with open arms
Apart from Shonin: Jump on the DS, I can't think of another Smash Bros-esque crossover game that wasn't some pet project game from Japan with broken gameplay mechanics. (no, MvC does not count; that's more like Super Street Fighter 3 with odd characters rather than Smash Bros.)
I don't care if it is a complete rip off... Honestly, I'd -LOVE- if it was a complete rip off. They'd have all the things I loved about the Super Smash Bros. franchise except with Sony characters. I'm so going to get this thing.
Someone needs to buy the Sony camera guy a tripod, or a zoom button that doesn't pan in and out constantly. Im fine with a smash brothers games but they could have tried harder to make it look different. Those P1 and P2 flags looked about the same. Then sweet tooth summoned a vehicle like Fox in SSB:B.
Not much of a need for that considering there were already two Smash Bros. clones solely based around the Digimon property. Although I wouldn't mind a Rumble Arena 3. OT: Speaking of Rumble Arena, the video included here reminded me of Rumble Arena 2 far more than Smash Bros. It's all in the physics, I think. Rumble Arena was fairly floaty, and that's the impression I got from this video. Plus, the orbs falling out when a character gets hit -- that's all Rumble Arena. Considering how much I enjoyed both Rumble Arena and Smash Bros., I'm looking forward to this.
Holy crap yes. Who cares if it's a direct clone of Brawl? Brawl with Sony characters is what a lot of people have been wanting for a very, very long time. I for one am incredibly excited, as long as they include the big four platformers: Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, Spyro and Crash Bandicoot. I also wouldn't mind Spike from Ape Escape. T'ai Fu from Wrath of the Tiger would be cool, but I doubt anyone remembers that game...
Will Cole be in the line up?? I MUST SHOCK MY FRIENDS AND FOES!!!!
Does anyone else hate that camera style that they used in the video where they don't even point it at the guy talking? Most retarded thing ever. As for the game, it's obviously a complete ripoff, but I'll buy it anyway. It'll be cheaper than getting a Wii.
You know that won't happen. Sony loves destroying Crash for whatever reason. Even ND likes to piss on CB fans. Besides, Activision holds the licenses. OT: Add Cole. That would be kinda cool. And Fat Princess wasn't even that popular.
It can't. Damage is just a means for filling up your super bar. You attack your opponents to fill up your super bar, and you use the super bar to power your super moves. The Super moves are the only way to kill your opponent.
I'm sorry, whose next gen console uses a principle thats a direct ripoff to one of the ideas used as the Basis of Sony's Vita - that is, the ability to use a tablet as a controller for a home console game? Oh right, I do believe thats Nintendo's stealing of Sony's ideas.
Dude, we're not still dealing with the space-strapped cartridges here. They're not in any real danger of running out of space, and given she was a SCEA owned character, her liscence didn't come out of the budget. It wasn't a choice between Fat Princess and another character, it was a choice between Fat Princess and no Fat Princess.
My thoughts, as organized into specific points: A. Yes, it looks EXACTLY like Smash Bros. So what? That's a GOOD thing. B. Wait, we get a confirmed Fat Princess but no Jak or Spyro? Well, I suppose it wouldn't be Smash Bros without a few withheld awesome characters and a few obscure one's that no one cares about. C. And how 'bout Cole McGrath or a Chimera, while we're at it? And I guess we'll take Nathan Drake if you've got him, but I would really prefer Sully... D. Seriously: JAK. SPYRO. GET ON IT.
I'm Nintendo fan and I don't mind. The industry only wins. Fifa has been better since PES showed up. I hated the small light that appears bording the characters, the maps looked ok.
Nintendo fan does not mean nintendo fanboy, tooottally different worlds
I'm ok with this, hey, it's shameless and it's obviously a complete rip-off but people might enjoy it, SSB is a fun game series, people will obviously try to copy it. Still, does the PS3 have that many iconic characters to fill a whole roster.
Glad I'm not the only one. The game looks fun as hell.
I want Tombi (or Tomba, if you must) to appear in this! I can...uh...bite things and use a blackjack to smack people! Woo! I have to admit, the level with the giant worm (hydra perhaps) looked like it had Ratchet and Clank style floors, so yay Ratchet!
Actually, I think what you're referring to is the first level from God of War. It's on a ship.
In my opinion the falling point of this game won't be that it is in fact SOOOO BLANTANTLY ripped from smash bros, but the fact that the maps are all incredibly flat (from what you can see in the Video) and at the same time how unbalanced it will be if the maps aren't flat (trying to watch fat princess jump on to the ledge is painful)
The PlayStation brand has a unique legacy and history. Why celebrate it with a clone of a NINTENDO game? I've been reading Nintendo fanboys complain about this and mock it as a SSB ripoff just because the idea of an inter-unviersal mashup with the stars of a certian console's legacy is obviously derived from SSB, but I really felt they just needed to shut up and accept that Sony has the right for their own take on the concept, as they have eighteen years of PlayStation history to draw from and have the right to celebrate it. But now that I've actually seen it in action, I honestly can't believe how much of a blatant copy this game appears to be of Smash Bros. If i were to have been shown this out of context on April 1st, I would have thought this was an elaborate prank. That being said, the Nintendo psychofans still need to hush up about this. It's not that big a deal.
The thing is, most of those games revolved around a single axis to help appeal to it's intended audiences. The weirdest of those other games was probably Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, and even then you only had two sides; the ridiculous Mortal Kombat universe and the comic-book DC universe. However, with PS All-Stars I'm not seeing any of the central axes, I'm just seeing all of these tiny gears. It's hard to aim a game at a specific audience effectively if all you have is the small bits that support several non-existent axes. Also, I'm not saying that Sony shouldn't do it, but I'm saying that it's not the best idea I've seen.
A lot of the levels are mashups of different games so it could actually be both
I already hate the name. Super Smash Bros. may be a Nintendo love-fest, but they don't slap their name right in the title. The name "PlayStation All-Stars" just reminds me of games like those shameless Burger King games.
The Littlebigplanet level that creates itself then turns into a Quiz Show that hurts you if pick the wrong answer looks like something from Smash Brothers? What game were you playing?
It was both, you can even see the Hydra eating Captain Qwark in a video (on gametrailers I think).
Man, that is really, really *similar* to say the very least. But hey, considering how fun SSMB was, if they do this right it could also be a very entertaining thrill - especially if it's not as PG as a Nintendo game. At the very least it is Sony doing this and not Microsoft; Can anyone honestly imagine what would come down to Master Chief vs Marcus Fenix vs. (whoever else MS owns a license for but never makes decent games for)? That said, I hope that the Sony team tackles this intelligently for the entire project because it could just as easily come off as silly, what with having the likes of Sweet Tooth thrown in with some character called "Fat Princess" who apparently likes cakes(?).
Yeah, thought it was, hence my input of (hydra perhaps). Just been a while since I played, so I wasn't sure.
I demand sir daniel fortesque and specter > >
I seriously doubt any of Sony's characters have the charm to carry this convincingly. PaRappa is the closest, and it might be cool to see Kratos wipe that grin off of Nathan Drake's face (seriously, fuck that guy, blandest, most unoriginal character since the fucking Master Chief.)
All I can think about is "Princess peach, what happened to you? D:" Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see a smash bros clone on the ps3 and it'll definitely be one of those "shut-up-and-take-my-money!" game. I know it's not really ps exclusive, but I'd love to see some gundam tossed in there... hopefully UC time line!

I was laughing my ass off at the reveal trailer. This is pretty much exactly what my friends and I imagined a Sony cross-franchise fighting game would look like; Smash Bros with Sony characters in it.
And really, I don't think anyone really expected anything more. And there's nothing wrong with that.
Hey, if they're going to rip off a 1st-party-cross-franchise-fighting-game, it might as well be the pinnacle of 1st-party-cross-franchise-fighting-games and go from there. I doubt I'd get it, not really a fan of fighting games, but I can no doubt enjoy it ironically from a distance.
