Heart of the Swarm Beta Zerg Rushes MLG Championship

Heart of the Swarm Beta Zerg Rushes MLG Championship

image

Stop by the MLG Spring Championship in Anaheim, California to test drive the first expansion to Blizzard's smash hit RTS.

With Heart of the Swarm adding a bunch of new units to the Terran, Zerg and Protoss arsenals, and changing and removing others, Blizzard is giving the professional e-sports community a chance to check out the latest multiplayer build - as long as they can make it to Los Angeles in June.

Attendees at the Major League Gaming Spring Championship event, held from June 8-10 at the Anaheim Convention Center outside Los Angeles, California, will be able to play the Heart of the Swarm multiplayer in several kiosks on the showroom floor. There, they can check out new units like the Protoss Tempest, Terran Warhound, and Zerg Viper, and inevitably complain about balance issues inherent in a beta test. Perhaps not-so-coincidentally, the Anaheim Convention Center is also the traditional location for BlizzCon.

Blizzard has big plans for the singleplayer campaign in StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm, but the series' main draw has always been its stellar multiplayer. If you're interested in checking out how things are changing for yourself, as well as watching some undoubtedly-exciting pro matches, tickets are on sale for $35.

You'll have to get yourself to California, though. No Warp Gates provided.

Never played starcraft multiplayer, never going to but I can't wait to see how the singleplayer turns out. The story is really good and Kerrigan looks hot once again.

I don't want to transport by warpgate, anyway.

Think about it, just how weird would it be to be transporting then to have some stray zergling destroy the pylon you were transporting to?

It's gotta be worse than some of the worst bad trips ever. :|

I've heard that they're removing Carriers in HotS. Carriers.

:,(

But yeah, one of the great things about StarCraft is that both sides are so good that someone could only play the campaign and ignore the multi - or vice versa - and they would still get their money's worth. I only really watch the multiplayer, and I absolutely love it. Brilliant spectator sport.

EDIT: WAIT 2 GORRAM SECONDS JOHN FUNK IS BACK?!

Protoss Change 1: Removing Motherships and Carriers

Not sure if anything's changed since they released the first trailer; but aren't the Protoss getting an AoE Air-to-Air unit?

And just like that, my interest in multiplayer is gone

Are lurkers coming back? Or sunken colonies? So how long will this take to beta test you think? As far as I know its a mostly finished game we have been waiting on story or some timeline for product sales.

It's a blizzard game, I figure it'll come out sometime between 2013 and the end of time, that way I don't get my hopes up.

Can't wait to point out how the Terran new units closely resemble Warhammer 40k units....

now watch as all the fanboys zerg rush the championship.

Mind if I ask what units you are referring to?

It was more a joke, about how people have been noticing other companies stealing from WH40K. But if you want actual theft, the Space Marine (entire design), Dragoon/Dreadnaught (Entire design and entire concept), Protoss are just dumber versions of Eldar, same with Zerg/Tyranids, and that'll do to start with.

But we also get some awesome nexus abilities :)
and the ability to create terran/zerg armies..
carriers were shit anyway

Lol well knew about the 2nd part. I was just wondering about the new units. Though you perhaps should have put /sarcasm. No need for people to take you wrong and report you. Since you know...no one can take a opinion now a days or take a small joke without freaking out lol.

OT: I really should start playing SC2 again. Though I just hope SC2 doesn't turn out to be a WC3 where every USM game become DOTA or bot spam.

Why do people keep stating that like WH40K came up with any of that.
From the WH40K wike
The name "Eldar" comes from J.R.R. Tolkien's elves, who in their own language were called "the Eldar". The history of the Eldar in Warhammer 40,000 mimics that of Tolkien's elves, to the point that they are a "dwindling race" in the game universe, as the elves were in Middle-earth's Third Age. Incidentally, GW has actually copyrighted the term "Eldar".

That is what GW does take tropes and ideas bring them up to the absurd. They make them awesome ,often way more than the original, but there are almost no new things for others to "steal".

Try reading some scifi from the last century.

I hope lurkers are never coming back, they make for extremely boring games.
seriously fuck lurkers and terran vultures spider mines.

Had you any actual interest in multiplayer to begin with, you'd know carriers suck.
They have a lot of firepower, but are almost never worth going for because they're such an enormous risk.
They're incredibly expensive, and if the enemy has corruptors, infestors, void rays, hydras, vikings, marines, blink stalkers, or even mutas, your carriers are suddenly just a liability.
They are bad.

and those new units are just as bad. Why not improve the old ones? Like they did with the battlecruiser, gave it a speed ability or the thor, shrinked it.

...what?
Stupid powerful anti-air and a unit that can copy any other unit that you can see, including their unique abilities, is bad?
And you want HotS to be a balance patch?
I'm not even going to bother talking about this with you any more.
