LucasArts Run by "Psychopaths" Pages PREV 1 2 3 4 5 NEXT
EA shut down the studio that made BFII. 2 days after acquiring them.
If only we could make a giant LucasArts guy with a sad face and put it on the studio's front lot... a little too drastic perhaps?
Hear that? It's the flavor of the month train pulling up, ready to take half this thread to the "We hate LucasArts" stop. Lots of return passengers from the EA stop, I see. I love how this site works.
Isn't anyone going to give us the whole, "it's okay because their a business, and the goal of a business is to make as much money as possible speech?"
Just on the timsplitters note... http://www.computerandvideogames.com/345587/timesplitters-4-is-not-in-development-crytek-confirms/ Sorry my friend.. I wanted it too..
All I read was
I rarely think hate mail is a good idea, but in this case I think maybe slip a cheeky bomb in there with it.
Let me guess, "Blow it up! Blow it all up!" God I'm getting old Anyway, normally I'd say no they're just a bunch of idiots or in the famous words of Yahtzee, "A bunch of Chimpanzee's with down-syndrome." Though if what is said is true then this is all pretty damning. Yet, I can't say I'm surprised
Like Lucas himself, LucasArts is already for me a Fallen Creator. So another good developer bites the dust.
o hai again, doing the broad sweeping generalizations thing again I see, good luck with that, im sure the big Corporation will thank you for White Knighting them.
I couldn't care less about "the big corporations." You don't have to like something to point out how stupid people are for blindly hating it.
No no no. Poor and retarded people are psychopaths. Rich and retarded people are called Eccentrics.
That part made me freeze for a minute before I read the rest. Before this I always thought it was Haze that killed free radical but now i see that game as a desperate attempt to stay afloat while lucasarts choked them to death. Finally the truth has come out. This is a personal revelation for me. I loved the games free radical made, especially timesplitters. I'm going to have to call a few friends, they must know too. Just wow
This is nothing new, its just the continuation of business as usual. They just aren't bothering to hide it anymore because they don't need to. There's nothing you can do to stop them, so bend over and take the DRM where the sun don't shine. Games used to be about fun. Call it nostalgia, but it was an actually different feel in the games industry. Today its all about money, as long as the game distracts them enough to pry them from their money then its good to go. Who cares if its boring, short, unplayable. Its all about the money.
Waw... And here I was thinking that Free Radical bit the dust because Haze was such an atrocity. Well, screw that Rodriguez guy than. Though it it does make me wonder. A Battlefront game with the fluidity of TimeSplitters in a Star Wars setting? Sounds like something awesome.
Production company CEOs need to be gamers otherwise things like this happens.
No. NO. NO!!! Why?! Why can't they just let it be made?! P.s. Go fuck yourselves new Lucasarts.
Not sure about them being psychopaths, but I doubt they have any sense on what makes a "good" game anymore. *SIGH*
Yes, Jim Ward was a complete ass. For me Lucasarts doesn't exist since Escape from Monkey Island. Then it existed a little while when they released the special editions. It's so sad... A company that made the best PC games ever to end like this... Because after this news they're totally finished for me!
Monkeys are expensive apparently.. and you know timesplitters and their monkey based shenanigans.
My hate will bore a hole into the nethersphere, releasing nightmares and daemons upon the Earth that will create a black citadel, and from within its deepest bowels, rows upon rows of equipment will be erected where developers will toil (happily) to create the perfect Battlefront 3. And when it is finished, it will be released to the public and sell millions while Lucasarts assholes watch, and then weep at the success they threw away.
I've run into the headline several times on several different gaming websites the past couple of days (I waste way too much time on this :() and every time I manage to read it as "LucasArts is run by Psychonauts".
With SW: Kinect being released, this is my only comment that needs to be made: I would support a Kickstarter fund to get both Battlefront 3 and Tie Fighter/X-Wing (remakes or reboot) BUT I would not support the current LucasArts publishers running the show to even make close to as good a game as possible. Mr. Lucas, if you would please step out from behind your stacks of money and out of your Scrooge McDuck vault in Skywalker Ranch, you could walk into LucasArts and SEE just what CRAP they're shoveling out when compared to earlier releases.
I want to agree with you, but I think you're wrong. It's going to much worse. Games like Starwars Kinect will become the norm as that is what non-gamers will buy, and there are a hell of a lot more non-gamers than gamers out there. The companies that exploit that demographic are going to make the most money, and gamers like us who love a good interactive experience are going to be left out in the cold. So in that respect, you are kinda right. Those publishers will fall, but they only will fall from grace with the people that made them strong in the first place.
So Battlefront 3 is not coming? ... Ever? RIP AND TEAR! RIP AND TEAR YOUR GUTS! I would have pre-ordered that shit a year in advance! What a fine display of modern business we have here.
It is kinda sad because one company didn't want to pay for the contract they signed on for the resorted to putting hundreds out of work instead of just following up on there commitments.... how sad.
Well I was all for burning down the studio, but your idea works too. captcha get over it Not amused captchas, not amused -_-
And thus my previous statements about Lucasarts having a crippling fear of money and success are half wrong. I need to go cry somewhere...
And i will start by saying "The bullshit is strong with this one". http://www.joystiq.com/2012/04/27/this-is-what-happened-to-star-wars-battlefront-3/ Essentially everything in there is false. The game was never canned after being completed, the game was never even near completion. I was working for the QA company that was testing the game and it was a fucking disaster. Nothing worked. LucasArts didn't can a completed game and a sequel to their most successful franchise up to that point, they took the project away from a vastly incompetent developer who had near the end of the project reduced the game to 3 class, and 5 or 6 maps with a 2 hour long campaign and was still mostly unplayable. You can look at the videos in this thread: http://www.giantbomb.com/forums/off-topic/31/new-star-wars-battlefront-3-footage-shows-first-3-missions/542545/ This is as good as this game ever got and that's what this guy calls a "completed" game. Lots of good tester lost a job that day and for a relatively small company that was a huge deal for us at the time. I guess i've got no way to prove what i'm saying, you're just gonna have to trust a random stranger on the internet. But why would i get worked up for a 4 year old cancelled game anyway?
This... This is just sad...
The answer: It's Star Wars.
I do hope you see the irony of your post.
There is no irony there. But it's nice to see you've entirely given up trying to argue--saves me the time of pointing out your every flaw in logic.
Why? WHYYYYYYYYYY?! Seriously, I'm willing to bet that more people would crank out money for a Star Wars Battlefront game then either COD or Battlefront. And with Multiplayer being much more common these days, it can be played the way it was meant to, with your friends and random arseholes over the internet.
And by effect, they're probably also the reason why Timesplitters 4 isn't in development anymore. It was announced in 2007, and not even a month ago, we find out that it's not happening after all. Battlefront 2 sold more than three million copies on the PS2 alone. If Lucasarts' bottom line was really about money, then why in the hell would they destroy a development-in-progress? Using an unbelievably conservative sales estimate of eight million copies across three platforms at roughly $60 apiece, they would've gotten nearly half a billion dollars in sales revenues. Would they have spent even a quarter of that on this supposedly too expensive development?

I guess producers are universally stupid. I hope kickstarter kills them eventually.
