Am I the only one who saw the typo the first time his name was mentioned?
"Carols" instead of "Carlos"...

shameduser:
15 to 99 years in prison? WTF that's a long time.

Hey, at least he didn't get life!
*Badumtss*

What a ridiculous sentencing requirements. 15 years at least? The guy would be 57 by the time he's released if he gets the minimum sentence, and bankrupt for the rest of his life because he can never afford such a fine.

So what will he do when he gets out and finds he can't even purchase food because all employers are made aware of his criminal record, won't hire him and if they did, all money would go to that fine? Exactly, he starts stealing, robbing or dealing in drugs.

Way to go America.

Ok, so this doesn't really belong on this site. REALLY wish sites like TE would stop reporting on inane stuff like this. This does not inform me about any video games, or movies, or even something reasonably associated with video games or movies.

No-one forced you to read this article, it's very clearly labelled what it's about.

OT: That's pretty stupid, 15 years sounds kinda harsh but then I guess if he's a smuggler then it's fair.

Grey Carter:

I'd be more impressed if the 360 still worked.

Me too, a classic 360 that hasn't red ringed yet? Unheard of.

*baddumtum etc*

My Day one purchased still working 360 wanted you to know. So you wouldn't continue to have it unheard of.

OT: This is why kids you don't smuggle drugs. Unless you know to obey road signals and keep cool when the police pull you over.

No no, no drugs in here..... I'm just the most radical case modder you'll ever meet. *sniff*

You can just tell that some anti-videogame activist is going to use this to their advantage.

Mine hasn't. Be impressed, I certainly am.

Of course, the disc drive no longer opens unless I pry it, but details, details :P

EternalFacepalm:
That's not exactly what one would phrase as "surprising", but alright.

What boggles my mind is how these are really gaming news at all.

Idiots are entertaining to all.

Formica Archonis:

Grey Carter:
Carols Valenuela and his friend Charlie - who weighs exactly 1.8kg and is enormously popular at parties - were taking a drive through Texas, when they were pulled over after Carlos failed to signal a turn as an intersection.

Failed to signal? That's either a police officer far from making quota this month or cop talk for "I knew something was up and I needed an excuse to pull him over."

Its cop talk for oh fuck a minority, hmm how can I pull him over.

Don't want to start console wars, but you never read articles with titles like
"Inept Smuggler Hides Cocaine in PC"
Just saying...

I am glad he is caught, but I quite doubt he was inept. You see, if the cop had never found it, you would never know. If he had opened it and found nothing, you would never know. IF the dogs were brought in and had not found drugs, you would not have heard about it. But the officer got lucky, he opened it, and found drugs. I am sure the cop just felt like searching the bag. The owner said no, the cops brought the dogs and he was caught. I don't believe this officer found him doing anything at all suspicious. And, take into the account a good portion of Americans do not trust cops, then it is no small wonder that the man was acting "suspicious".

All of my distaste aside, I am still glad they were fortunate to have caught the man. I am for the legalization of a great many drugs, but Cocaine is not among them.

EHKOS:

Yeah, if you're nervous like that, he has to be new. I thought it would be common sense not to keep glancing at your hiding place.

A cop will always report these things about someone they later find has drugs on them. If you jump back from a bush because you see there is a snake in it, your brain has lied to you. You jumped back before you consciously knew there was a snake. It's possibly the same situation here. It is more likely the cop wanted to search the bag, the man said no (as is his right not having committed any crime thus far) and the cop then brings in dogs to find something. Once again, if all of this had happened, and nothing had been there, you would not have heard about it. Which is not an uncommon outcome for these things.

Also, it says they were "very popular at parties", making me believe he was not in fact that new at it.

In all fairness, he could be sentenced to a minimum of 15 years, meaning more like 5-7 with good behavior. But, I agree. American justice is shot. You are never forgiven for a crime or past mistake in America. If he gets out after 5 years, he spends the next 10 on probation, when he is 60, has not committed any crimes since he was incarcerated, every cop that pulls him over will want to search his car and give him a hard time. That is, if he does not commit any crimes after his release.

Way to go America, indeed.

Only 2 inside each controller? I thought you could replace an original xbox controller with a fullgrown grizzly and it would seem just a tiny bit smaller!

You mean, like this?

"This just in, a study shows a %700 percent increase in the number of Microsoft Xbox 360 being used to smuggle illegal drugs and contraband over the past few months. If you or anyone you know has an Xbox 360, keep a mindful eye on it, because someone could be using it to smuggle drugs in the notoriously easy to access CD drive or plastic enclosure."

Exactly!

I wanted to find that pic for the post but I was at work and didn't have time to search for it.

...I had to bring it back.

I think we should legalize all drugs and tax them. There are ways of controlling drug addicts if drugs were legal. Also legalizing it would fix an insane amount of problems in America. People in charge are just too shortsighted to see that.

Fasckira:
You guys cant pulled for not indicating in America? I hate it when someone doesnt indicate in front of me but I dont think Ive ever heard of the police here in the UK pulling someone for it.

Certainly doesnt sound like hes the brains in this little operation though.

How else are they going to write them a ticket? I suppose the police could just take the number plate and look on the database on where to mail it to them but there are two problems with this that come from how rigorous the US Legal process is.

They must be "served" their notice, they could simply throw their ticket in the bin when it arrives and claim it never got there. In the UK if it is delivered by the ROYAL mail then they are sacrosanct and cannot be challenged in court. But if the cops pulls them over and gives the summons directly to the driver then he can't really claim he never got it as even if the cop could be lying, he has a microphone and dashboard camera recording it all.

Second part is to claim "I wasn't driving at the time". You can't claim that when the cop pulled you over and looked directly in your face where you have to hand over licence and registration identifying yourself. It's 5 minutes of a cop's time that save SO MUCH time in court where it costs a LOT more money to argue this out. Number plate may be recorded incorrectly but not ALSO the licence AND Registration. This all makes it harder the squirm out of a ticket in court, it stops vital time and money being wasted in the legal process.

Also, the police have a certain responsibility to ascertain why the driving infraction was made. Are they intoxicated? Do they even have a driving licence? Is it actually a child behind the wheel who has stolen this car. Or was it just a simple mistake. Either way, it's reasonable for the cops to stop and ask. They have Probable Cause to stop them and ask some reasonable questions, a driving infraction alone isn't even enough to ask them to get out the car, the cop has literally has to stand practically in the middle of the road as trucks pass inches away from them.

Baresark:

Also, it says they were "very popular at parties", making me believe he was not in fact that new at it.

Uhhh that was a joke. And ya, I'd question the legality of the arrest. Texas is rather notorious for pulling people over for almost any reason they could think of. Cop's ass itches? Wind blows in an east-westerly direction? That's intuition! Pull over the next car I see! Glad I don't live there.

Grey Carter:
he's facing anywhere between 15 to 99 years in state prison and a fine of "not more than $250,000." He's been placed on a $25,000 bond.

'Murrika. Where the prisons are made to punish, and not rehabilitate at all.

America, where we put people in prison longer for trafficking drugs than for child abuse or rape.

This. Oh so much of this. Don't get me wrong, I'm not for cocaine, or it's legalisation. I just think that drugs (all drugs) require a different kind of policing to 'lock 'em all up'.

Captcha - 'nut case'. They really, really are.

I always thought Xbox 360's just ran on Cocaine.

Listen dude, you've got to hide more than two thirds of your Cocaine

I have a classic 360 and works. Granted it was only collecting dust as I have grown disenfranchised with consoles.

Smuggling drugs on Interstate 10? Brilliant. Nobody would ever be suspicious of someone driving 1500 miles along the Mexican border.

PC drug-smuggling master race! Woo!

ThePenguinKnight:
Idiots.

I smuggle my cocaine in larger bags of pot, they'll never suspect a thing. hehehehe.

Pffft, that's nothing. I cover mine in methamphetamine and simply speed past the cops so they don't have time to see what's on the back seat.

I give them the finger that way they see how unpleasant I am so that they'll avoid me.

Even better, try firing a gun at them so they'll go away faster.

Treblaine:
-snip-

No, I get the logic of the police serving a warning in person being better than trying to mail. What I mean is that here in the UK the police wouldn't even bother to mail a driver for not indicating, they wouldn't do anything. Its just not considered that big a thing.

I think the only time the police would pull someone in the UK for not indicating is if they had endangered other road users (like cutting someone up on the motorway or similar).

DustyDrB:
I heard somewhere that that's a hell of a drug.

shameduser:

I think (keyword: "I'm ill-informed and really have no place making this commentary" "think") that the punishment is steep because they are really trying to be extra hard on drug-trafficking in Texas due to the overall situation around the border. Drug-trafficking goes behind drug-trafficking. It's a very bloody business.

Really seems amazing compared to the fact that possession of class A here in the UK gets you like... 2 years? There's a drug runner attending the same college as me, and the police have put away all his buddies. He, himself apparently has a court hearing at some point and the evidence seems pretty fucking steep. While I'll admit it's a shame he's balls'd up his life (absolutely no job prospects after something like this, etc, he'll end up having to live the rest of his life as a dealer, which he didn't want to do) he's still a fucking idiot and I can't feel sorry for him. It'll just be simpler for everyone when he goes away. Besides all that, he's a wanker anyway. Not that I'd wish that fate on someone for being a bit of a dick, but he's brought this on himself.

Apparently they didn't find any drugs upon raiding his (mother's) house, but they found a total of around 8 grand in cash stashed around it. And I've heard the rumor that they've got him pinned with possession of large amounts of pot, as well as class A.

What gave him away was that he told the police that it was classic 360 unit still working.

Also, two typos in the first two words of the body of the article "Carols Valenuela" should be "Carlos Valenzuela"

given the amount of red ringed machines out there, it would have been easy to procure any number of cases

my friend uses two dead xboxes to prop up his working one

why didn't he grow marijuana like all the other druggos?
