Actually I used to write News for other sites and my own, amoung which was one with over 80000 active forum members. So I actually am in a position from which I can judge. I'm not assuming that it isn't difficult to re-write a news, I know that it isn't difficult.

I'd be interested in reading some of your work, could you provide a link?

I sincerly doubt that you read german Grey. Even if you did, the site doesn't exist anymore and even if it did it would be against the code of conduct for me to link it because it dealt in part with piracy. If you want to read something I wrote, wait a few weeks, like I said, I'll be sending something in, just not news.

I'm sure you still have the files, though. You could just copy/paste the text and PM it to Grey. Easy way around the "piracy" rule, though naturally the German might still be problematic.

My friend is excellent at translating German. And I'm sure she'd be pleased to help out such a fine cause.

You guys say that like I'm some sort of writing juggernaut.

I don't think I'm as awesome as you guys think I am...

I chalk it up less to your writing prowess (though you're one of the more coherent posters I've ever seen in a forum) and more to your stunning wit.

Most of your posts make me laugh.

Most of my posts are "grimdark super-serious serious time." Or Buzz Killington moments. Or typing things that people will take out of context and endlessly nitpick.

Or having something that resembles humor fall flat because satire and sarcasm pretty much lose all of their kick over the internet.

Okay, thank you, I appreciate the compliment.

I've found it's just easier to go through life trying to make people laugh, rather than take everything seriously.

That has it's own down sides though :D

Do you make a hobby of keeping old MySQL Databases around? I sure don't and even if I did it wouldn't be worth the effort to dig through it just to prove a point. I'm sure he can wait.

No, but I have plenty of writing samples lying around - even ones from a now-defunct site.

Could it have something to do with you being a professional writer? I'm not a writer, I have no reason to keep things around for a writing portfolio. Even if the escapist were to publish the article I intend to send in I wouldn't consider myself a professional writer. Atleast not in any sense beyond "I got payed for this, therefore professional writing."

Actually, the samples I'm referring to are from when I was doing this as a volunteer, for fun. I've never considered myself a professional writer.

Why do you keep it then? If I have no use for something I don't keep it.

Oh, lots of reasons. To see how far I've come, as a sort of souvenir of the time I spent working for the site in question, as a marker of work I'd done. It's digital, so it's not like it's taking up any space.

I know your game, Arendt.

You plan on framing that stuff and selling it at the Expo, aren't you!

I'm on to you...

Well if you take pride in it I guess that makes sense. The only thing I have in that vein are love letters I wrote my wife to be and I'm not giving those to Grey xD

The sort of stuff that when you look at, you can't believe how bad it was?

Yeah, I know that feeling. I remember finding a couple of short stories I wrote when I was at school.

They were bloody awful :D

They make him, like, 20% cooler.

I was hoping someone might clarify if the deadline is midnight heading into Tuesday or end of day on Tuesday.

Thank you!

I just submitted mine a bit ago! Second times a charm right!?... Right?....

Oh geez. I just reread my entry after I sent it. I shouldn't have looked at that picture of those cats playing Pokemon immediately before writing it. It tainted my entry.

Late to the party, but I did get something made. I imagine this is what it feels like to submit a dissertation on the deconstruction of the feminine in Edith Wharton's The Age of Innocence.

I mean, if I had ever actually finished that dissertation.

...

I should go.

All right, my entry was sent in a while ago.

Best of luck, everyone!

Welp, I submitted mine earlier. I would've gotten around to it sooner, but I was slightly (read: completely) distracted by Victoria Day weekend customers at my IRL job...and by an English patch of the WON-DER-SWAN edition of The Final Fantasy Legend.

...What? It's a great game! xD

And to top it off, I read through my news post a few times to check for errors, and found three of them that all happened because I transferred from Microsoft Word to a GMail message. WYSIWYG, huh? I'm not so sure...

Anyway, good luck to all the participants, and to the editors that will be reading these. Whether or not I hear back from you guys, I have a few neat article ideas that I may share from time to time through your Article Submissions program. ^^;

Thanks to everyone who applied, and for the record, formatting issues will not count against you - it's your words that count, not whether or not you used an M-dash correctly. :) We'll be in touch with those who made it to the next round in the next week or two.

To those who didn't follow instructions (as you were told to do), or who failed to check for the correct spelling of Reggie's name...well, that's a shame.

And quite embarrassing.

Did you see that?

That was me dying inside.

Out of curiosity, how many people are you accepting?

7-10, probably. A lot depends on the applications we received.
