My Little Diablo: The Secret Level Is Magic

Yet 1 more reason Diablo 3 is a shit game. Thanks Escapist for bringing this to light. I had hoped Blizzard had enough decency to not put this into the game after it was rumored they were working on it. This disgusts me.

Silly, I am still not buying this game, but it is silly.

but this is trying to poke fun at an objective truth,

That objective truth being?

Oh, I don't know. It had to do with celery as far as I remember[1].

No, I really don't. All I remember are subjective opinions but if you've got an objective truth, lay it on me.

[1] Don't be coy, you know what I'm talking about.

Amnestic:
No, I really don't. All I remember are subjective opinions but if you've got an objective truth, lay it on me.

'Course you do, you just fallaciously label it an opinion.

I distinctly remember Diablo 2 Act 2 having very little in the way of 'gothic fantasy'. Seemed more Arabian Fantasy to me, so how can it be an art style defined by its predecessors if its own predecessors went against it?

If you can provide screenshots from outside of the Secret Pony Level which demonstrate an actual deviation from gothic fantasy - a term which appears to have no fully agreed upon definition to begin with[1] - then perhaps I'll listen. A GIS of "Diablo 3 Screenshots" seems to indicate that the art style hasn't deviated at all, but hey, maybe I'll be proven wrong?

[1] Which begs the question of how one can have an objective truth based off an entirely subjective art style with no agreed upon definition. The answer is you can't, of course.

Been in way too many of these "debates" to put more effort into this than saying one thing and posing a small challenge.

First, the textures, without (noticeable) exception, all have a painted on look in D3, as opposed to a realistic look in previous games.

And now the challenge. What do you think ticked people off, if it's not the art style?

Dude, get a sense of humor. It's a joke...

I've played WoW and lurked the official forums long enough to know that people don't need any sort of legitimate reason to get pissed off at Blizzard games. Minor changes (see: inclusion of a rainbow) are more than enough to set them off on a tirade about all Blizzard are destroying video gaming as we know it and it's a complete betrayal of everything that made them great.

I have yet to see any evidence that they have a legitimate gripe and aren't just complaining for the sake of complaining as so many have before.

As for 'realistic', maybe it's my eyes but this

doesn't exactly scream 'realistic art style'.

No more so than

this anyway.

If you really think people are raging over a rainbow, that's your prerogative.

Yeah, no. Sorry. Don't confuse fidelity with style.

This is 100% sequel material.

Love it! Would be even better if the enemies actually looked like the ponies from friendship is magic :P

Awesome! So you have experience with this, right?

Cool! What's the pixel count in D2 vs D3? Cause if D2 is less, it's less realistic than D3!

Hammeroj:

The "casual" version of WoW? The seemingly complete focus on WoW? That SCII & D3 were taking so damn long? Blizzard becoming Activison? That some people just like to complain about anything? I mean, there are quite a few indirect reasons you could throw out there.

Also, gothic fantasy often depicts images in something that tries to mock oil paintings because it would be the only way to capture a picture in that era. It's apart of the style.

Also also, gothic fantasy prominently features mundane or common features in real-life that would be considered beautiful or good as a stark contrast within a gothic fantasy setting, such as a rainbow. They're artistically meant to portray that "light at the end of the tunnel" or "shining hope in the darkness" that makes gothic fantasy truly dramatic as it gives reason for the protagonist to strive to beat back the grim darkness, which, if I'm not mistaken, is sort of like the "heroic, bloom covered protagonist amidst the dark, encroaching cavern full of demons", don't you think?

Captcha: sour grapes

...*snicker*...

You get to kill ponies... Brutally. Who the fuck wouldn't like this?

He can't, either he's either way too into MLP, or he thinks that Diablo III is a super cereal game that should be taken totally srsly because it's super srs bisness. No room for jokes here folks, it's souper srs. Also, to him there probably is no cow level either because that doesn't fit with the supr srs tone of Diablo II. Wirt's Leg should never in any way be combined with a Tome of Town Portal, it'll break the game.

I myself find this hilarious and if I were playing Diablo III I'd be looking up how to find this to make sure I got all the required stuff as I played through the game.

Actually I hate MLP to the point of wanting to murder its creators with a rusty butter knife in there sleep. It is because of that hate that it should not appear in ANY game (not even in games I hate like COD, anything EA makes, or D3 itself) in any form. Even being able to slaughter them is not funny as they should not have been in the game to begin with. Blizzard has lost what little respect they still had from me after all the shit they pulled in Diablo 3.
And Diablo 3 is not a srs business game. It is a piece of shit game for many reasons. (no stat customization, pay-to-win auction house, etc.)

And yes there is a Cow level in D2. That was actually funny. Moo moo moo moo moo. Damn I love the shitty voice work they did for the cows. That whole level is so cheesy bad that its good.

And finally don't be putting words in my mouth or making assumptions about me. You don't like my opinion fine but try not to flame me or become yet another Escapist troll.

I apologize, your opinion is far better thought out than a lot of what I've been seeing lately which has all boiled down to "I hate the game because...Blizzard is now Activision so all their games automatically suck!" I mistook you for one of those people and I lashed out, I'm sorry.

I may not agree with your opinion but now that you've voiced it in a more detailed fashion and explained some of your problems with the game I'm willing to respect it. You make some valid points that've been on my mind in the last few days and caused me put Torchlight 2 over D3 as the next game I'm gong to buy.

I'm still not sure I understand how the real money auction house is "pay to win" since you are neither forced to use it, nor are you forced to play with other people or people you don't know though. The auction house is totally avoidable if you want it to be.

Seek professional help. Those sorts of thoughts and feelings aren't healthy, especially not in someone of your age.
