Square Enix Finally Confirms PC Final Fantasy VII

Yeah I don't really care, I already have FF7 on my PS3, PSP and my phone so there is no reason I should give a damn, that and I think FF7 is horribly overrated, still a good game but not THAT good.

Bring out a 3d remake of FF6 in the style of FF4 DS and then you have peaked my interests good sir.

Ok so nothing new. I have a pc version of VII. Why dont we get what we wanted and have a VII remade with current gen graphics.

YYAAAAAYYYY
This make me a happy chappy.

My question remains the same as in the last thread. Are we stuck with the same crappy MIDI soundtrack as the Eidos port, or are we going to get the OST from the PSX version?

Why is VII to blame for XIII?

Because that was the direction that 7 started to take the series. Making it more about the spectacle. FMVs were possibly the worst thing that could have happened, and now we have jRPGs that are little more than interactive movies.

LOL whatever dude. Final Fantasy VI is where they really started caring about graphics and the FMV's in VII were short. VIII is where they started getting long and are you saying that XIII is bad because it has long FMV's? That is the least of it's problems. I love XIII for what it is, not what it isn't. I'll tell you what XIII isn't, it isn't FF VII.

In fact, Final Fantasy VII is almost a 3D remake of VI. The materia and esper systems are very similar, the story is very similar and so is the gameplay. So it blows my mind that you can love VI but hate VII.

I'm sorry, you're trying to compare the stories of 6 and 7, saying that they were very similar? You haven't actually played 6, have you? You're making that pretty obvious.

Of course I have played VI, I bought it on the SNES when it first came out. Just another evil empire story that our heros must stop before the world is destroyed. You clearly haven't played VII.

Huh. Wasn't there already a FFVII port for the PC available years ago? Oh wait, I see. It's "HD" now right? They're keeping the old outdated polygon models, but now it's in higher definition right? I may be able to get behind it if they completely redid the graphics and modernized them, but honestly the way it's been presented in the trailer just seems like a blatant cash grab driven on nostalgia. It's certainly not the PS3 tech demo that spawned all this hype in the first place.

Was it a cash grab when they released it on PSN with no updates at all?

It's not even a remake as far as I can tell, just a re-release. I'll take my PSN FFVII and be happy.

So we'll just ignore the 1998 windows release? I think I still have the disk around somewhere.

Sensationalist headlines are one thing, but it's another to be just factually incorrect.

Well, if you want to be stupidly, factually correct, Square ENIX never released this game in 1998.

Really, why are people so fuckin hateful about this?

Squaresoft did it, sure - but my issue is not with who published it- it's that it's been released on PC at all. I'm not being "hateful". Journalistic integrity is a real thing and claiming FF VIII has never been released on PC in the past is an incorrect statement and it should be rectified in journalistic articles that should reflect the truth of both history and reality as is.

Claiming it is "finally" on PC is logically exclusive to the fact that it was on PC previously. This is where I take issue.

AzrealMaximillion:

Skratt:
No steam release? bah

I'd rather not see a Steam release for this. I'd like to be able play FF7 on my PC without needing to be online. Not that Steam is bad for that but the odd time that my internet conks out with my PC off would make me displeased.

They could always do both and I don't see why not. For those that like every single game to be on Steam they could sell it to them on Steam while everyone else can just get it via their website.

He claimed at the time that the development team would be more than happy to work on a new version of the game, but that he wanted to see an even better Final Fantasy game released first.

Ummmm, it's not gonna happen as long as your main team is the same ones that brought us epic Final Fantasy letdowns 10, 13 and 13-2. Also, the guy who came up with the music for 13 and it's sequel should be placed in front of a firing squad. Worst Final Fantasy soundtrack I have ever heard. Half of it is elevator music, while the other half is Japanese pop music.

Edit: I also can't believe how idiotic these people are. They aren't going to release this on the biggest digital distribution platform in the world. It's like making a game and not allowing it to be sold at Walmart.

No, it did not. The PC version had some advantages over the PSX version, but it really crapped out on the sound.

I was excited until I saw the trailer. Irritating voiceover aside, the character models lacked hands. Seems like a direct port. I guess playing the old PC port with the player-created graphics mods is still the best option to see FF7 look merely "old" rather than "pure arse". How is it that difficult to bring the graphics up to, say, Nintendo DS Ocarina of Time rerelease levels of "modern"? Just grab the original background art to remaster it, and spruce up the character models a bit. Fans have managed this, a professional developer should be able to with ease.

Huh?
I have the PC-Version of this game already. Bought it years ago.
What are the News?

It's like gog.com.

Sure, "The Incredible Machine" was released almost two decades ago, but good luck getting the not-gog.com version running.

Apparently, the old FFVII PC is impossible to get working on modern hardware. So this fixes that.

It is not impossible to get working on modern hardware. It's not even difficult. This is an easy cash grab, nothing more.

I have one person saying it's impossible, one saying it isn't. Clearly, the game likes some hardware better than others.

Also, what's wrong with them re-releasing the PC version? What's inherently wrong with a cash-grab if it gets more people playing the game?

I don't see much value to this if their isn't an HD counter part. I don't know if any of you have played the PC port on a 1080 screen but it looks dreadful.

Will there be game modding though?

If it costs more than $20, than you are being fucked over by a robot cat, on top of a robot pedophile. Fuck that noise yo.

I played this game on the pc FOR OVER 99 HOURS... NOT SURE WHY THE MASSES CAN'T FIND IT ANYMORE... OH YEAH, CUZ YOU'D HAVE TO PAY FOR IT, EH?

Sorry, this whole thing is just rather silly.

Moromillas:

I dont see why it wouldn't. Modding the original version wasn't overly hard. Square just probably touched up the engine to work on modern hardware and not completely shit itself

I'd really rather not use Ebay. Ebay has screwed me over way more than game publishers could dream of doing.

So if there's a downloadable/easy to find version out there, I'm all for it.

I do hope there is decent support for this. The pack files on the original were a nightmare.

Technically, it did use MIDI - as did VIII and Tactics - but not the same MIDI that PC's use. It's possible to rip all the individual samples the soundtrack is assembled from right off the disk.

The '98 game really should've used CD tracks instead of MIDI or else imitated the way the PSX assembled the music. PC MIDI is just not up to par. It's a shame it came out before the rise of MP3s.

I don't think you will see open support or tools provided by Square, it will be the same thing as before: people mucking around the game assets.

Cheapest USED price that I can find is Amazon, $30. Cheapest price new? eBay, $70. And there's no guarantee it'll work with a modern PC. So kindly check yourself before you go wrecking yourself.

People really need to be suggesting/asking for this. Could you imagine the same level of community driven modding that games like Oblivion, Skyrim, had? But for FF7?

The original PC port will NOT work on modern hardware without a little bit of TLC. There are mods that exist (like Final Fantasy VII Remix) that port all the assets into a new OpenGL engine that plays nice with modern hardware and allows for newer graphical enhancements like AA and AF, but that also introduces a few new annoyances as well. I will assume that Square got the game working on newer hardware and decided to make some bank on. Nothing wrong with that, but the game is going to show a lot of age if everything was left in its original aspect ratio (which I believe was 800x600 or 640x480).

I'm imagining about a dozen mods that are different methods to save/revive Aeris.

Please look up impossible.

I didn't say there was anything wrong with it, I said that's what it was. FF VII tends to bring out extremes in people and the words "FF VII re-release" are going to have a lot of people thinking this is something it isn't.

Impossible: Unable to be done, performed, effected, etc.

Doesn't seem unlikely to me if you have hardware the game flat-out doesn't like. As I implied before, I was unable to get my Windows version of The Incredible Machine working on my current rig. I spent days trying. I ended up buying the gog.com version, which worked.
