Halo Remake Dev Returns for Halo 4

Developer Certain Affinity is working on the Forge engine for Halo 4.

Following a tweet issued during the Rooster Teeth Expo in Texas this weekend, developer Certain Affinity has confirmed it is working alongside 343 Industries on Halo 4. Certain Affinity is working on the mapmaking Forge tools and user interface.

Certain Affinity said they were "honored" to be working on the franchise again. The Expo showed off several of the Forge's upgraded features - the ability to lock objects on the map, or to easily duplicate them and attach them to other objects - designed to make map creation significantly easier. There are all sorts of nifty tools set to be available to players via Forge; everything from gravity manipulation to run speed and jump height boosts.

Halo 4 is the first installment for the franchise developed exclusively by 343 Industries. The 343i studio was created by Microsoft to take care of the franchise after Bungie left the Halo brand it had created. Halo 4, the first installment of a new trilogy, is set for release in November this year.

I think the bigger news here is that Forge is 100% certainly back. Or did we already know that and I'm just behind?

If so, just ignore me and let me bask in my ignorance.

Lock objects together? I just might remake some of the ships and other shit that I made back in the day (among these were a full-scale Normandy SR1 and SR2 replicas!). The fact that you can lock objects together and then manipulate them has untold applications in machinima. Imagine, you build a massive ship, and move it across the map above your main characters' heads. That alone has literally epic applications. My order's in.

Captcha says "True Blue". Why thank you captcha, I'm glad that you too share a fondness for Mass Effect's Asari race.

And THAT is the secret to Halo's longevity: Endless potential to dick around.

Sorry to disappoint you, but I don't think the "lock" works like that. Based on what i saw, when you lock a forge object it means that it will stay in that place. So if you bump your controller after spending 10 years editing the coordinates of something you won't make it all go to waste by moving it. It's not like welding things together in G-mod, although that would be cool.

Ah damn. Well, that won't stop the modders, that's for sure. And for the record, I've got a friend that's done as I described since the days of Halo 3. This just makes it easier to parent the objects together. Makes me want to purchase a modded console just for the fun of it.

Personally, the only things that I can think of that would improve Forge was if you could control weather conditions, time of day, the skin of objects so that it could have anywhere from a Forerunner/Promethean look, the Covenant aesthetic, or something closer to a UNSC look.

Other than that, the only other improvement I could think of, would be making our own base map terrains.

And you know what? I would be willing to bet that most if not all of that will be implemented in Halo 5 or 6. After all, so far each progressive Halo that has had Forge, has added something with the next game.

Weather, AI and Pelicans. They do that and I'll buy 10 copies.
