Bastion Finds Safe Haven on iPads

Bastion Finds Safe Haven on iPads

The Kid's gonna find a whole new handheld audience - unless they only have iPhones.

Come on and listen to my story. This one's nothing fancy, but it's got to be told just the same. I remember the old days; hell, I remember a lot about them. Doesn't seem like so long ago that Supergiant games released Bastion for Xbox 360 and Steam, but that still leaves an awful lot of folks who can't play it. Well, if they've got iPads, they're covered now: Supergiant is releasing the Kid's adventure for Apple's second- and third-generation tablets tomorrow. And I thought we'd been through enough already.

But every story's got to start at the beginning, even if figuring out when that is ain't so easy sometimes. 2011's indie darling action/RPG is intact - well, as much as anything is intact these days - after its iPad conversion with only a few minor tweaks. The port includes the Stranger's Dream DLC (and, if I can say so, its first-rate narration), and a few alterations to the difficulty and menu systems. Oh, and then there are the weapons: "While the majority of the content in Bastion for iPad is very similar to previous versions, some weapons have been retuned and some upgrades redesigned in order to best fit this platform," say the Calamity survivors at Supergiant. "If you're a fan of previous versions of the game, we hope you'll enjoy discovering some of the differences in feel in some of your favorite weapons."

Course, it ain't all sunshine and roses. Because of the game's specs, it's not playable on first-generation iPads or any kind of iPhone/iPod Touch. Don't go expecting a free trial, either, as Supergiant is out to avoid any confusion over "lite" versions of games in the App Store. Guys and gals who already own the game on XBL or Steam will have to buy it again, but I never said life was fair, Kid.

Not that I'm gonna tell you how to spend your cash, but the iPad version of Bastion will retail for $4.99 (the Xbox/PC prices will stay the same, though). If you still don't own a platform that can play it, Supergiant hasn't ruled out porting it to other gaming devices, but they've got no immediate plans, either. You want my advice? I say be grateful for what you've got, and give it a go if you haven't already.

That's it, Kid. Get to it.

Brilliant. This is an amazing game, and if you haven't played it then do so right now.

I'm not sure if I'll buy it on iPad. Even though I'm a massive fan I already have the PC version so there's not much reason to get it on iPad too.

Um, just who owns an iPad and not a PC?

But are we still in this alone?

Supergiant Games have already confirmed via e-mail that there is a possibility of an iPhone port in the future, depending on the success of the iPad version, and that there are no technical limitations that would make an iPhone port unfeasible. Indeed, current-gen iPhones are considerably more powerful than the second-gen iPad, which can play Bastion.

I love Bastion, I really do. I honestly consider it one of my favorite games of all time, and the guys from Supergiant deserve all the awards and the attention they got. But I'd just wished they made another game...

They already released Bastion on 360, PC, Linux, Mac, Chrome and now on iPad, I hope they don't just settle with that game success, because I'm really looking forward to see what they are capable of now that they're probably more experienced and have more resources.

Well, I guess in the mean time we all have another excuse to play Bastion once more, so I guess we can be thankful of that.

You enjoyed writing that, didn't you.

Definitely awesome since Bastion needs all the recognition it can get in my opinion. this just makes me want to go and play it for a third time now.

Also anybody else read this in the narrators voice from Bastion or is it just me?

Ditto. Always loved Ruck's voice, so damn sexy.

OT: ... I'd probably go out and buy an iPad, but I just started first year of university, so yeah >.>

That's awesome, wonder when they are going to announce a new game though :/

I think this is a great move for Supergiant. Bastion definitely deserves more attention.

I did.

I love this game, shame I only have an ipod touch

loved this game so much :] I'm gonna get this game for my friend on her iPad. share the goodness

I really should get around to finishing this game. It's been sitting In my Steam to do pile for ages, but I keep going back to Recettear...

Ah well, good to see the iPad users have it as well! More power to the people!

Yes. Possibly more than I should have.

I love the way the article is written :)
but I don't care much about the actual subject. Good for ipad-users, I guess.

I would spend another $15 if they would put that shit on my Android tablet (TF300). I mean, holy shit, not everyone owns an iPad. Some of us have higher standards than that (Just playing).

I totally read that whole thing in the narrators voice

No, I did too. It was awesome. Well done with the writing in this one.

While I relish that Supergiant gets even more resources to finance their fine entreprises, I'd like to know they're working on something else already. Considering the pretty small team that constitutes them, is there anyone left to plan or work on other things than the several ports we've seen recently?

PS: I also totally read that in Ruck's voice. It's so darn sexy.

When I saw the title I was like "meh" but then I thought "wait somebody in the comment section is probably goning to make a reference about the narration". Boy was I glad when the article was made this way.
Thanks Marshall!

You could play the game while you're on the crapper!, if that's not reason enough, then I don't know what could be.

It'd be great it it gets released for Android too.
