Nintendo Confirms Wii U Software Pricing
I figured as much. Inflation sucks!
I'm still waiting for the PS4 and 360-2 (Whatever) games to be priced at $70. And I don't even want to think about the hardware price. :/
In before Activision announces Black Ops 2 will be $100 on Wii U. Still though, the price isn't too bad. PS4 and 720 games will likely be more expensive.
If the price of games goes up much more, Or I'll buy the system with the best priced games.
I didn't even know Wii games were $10 less O.o
Going to get worse with QE3 just started
they are $70 is Australia.
Source? I don't necessarily disbelieve the article, but without a source there's not a lot to go on with this article/
Yes Steam's Summer and Winter sales make games ridiculously cheap. If you wait for it you can usually grab most $60 AAA titles on sale 1-2 years later for $10.
Gamestop is posting these numbers, but if you look at amazon for some reason they thought it funny to list first party titles at $100 (but you save $0.03)
I hope they're worth it (remembers article about "New" Super Mario Brothers) Oh well! =/
Each generation game prices seem to have hiked up, so it's not going to be a surprise when Sony and Microsoft do this too. We already pay about $100 upwards for new titles at current generation in NZ for no real reason, so looks like we'll get screwed again. And Wii games, still release around $80-$100 here, first party Nintendo games almost never come down in price often, for the first couple of years.
I'm not surprised about the cost of the games going up like they did. This should only serve to remind folks of the cost of inflation. I am with others on this forum in saying that I bet the next Sony/Microsoft systems will be even more expensive.
Yeah... $60 for Mario Bros... you know Ninty?, I think I'll skip both of your consoles for the first time in my life. Especially with your ridiculous prices in my country ($76 for Mario Galaxy 2?, NO thanks). In fact, I think I'll may just skip the next generation of consoles entirely. I've already found greener pastures with PC gaming and I like it. A lot.
An extra $10 bucks for "high end" Wii U games? So what Movie Bob has to pay $10 more for his nostalgia trips? Fantastic :S
Gah. Laaaaaaaame. I'm gonna miss those $50 price tags.
Yeah, that was one of the perks of owning a Wii in my opinion. It's why when a lot of boneheads used to shout "I ain't paying $60 for a stupid kiddy Mario game!" about Wii stuff I just snickered to myself, but I guess people really aren't too informed about stuff they don't care about. But it's amazing how quickly people forgot that games used to go for less only after a year or so. The jump to $60 actually happened mid-Gen7 with one of the Call of Duty games, I believe - even 360 and PS3 games started out at Gen6's $50 if I remember correctly and Wii kept the old pricing even after the other two upped theirs. Seeing Wii U adopt that $10 "HD tax" is saddening to me, but not entirely unexpected.
PC still has most new games at $50. (I've seen a few games that have been tainted by the $60 price tag though. It saddens me so.) I will still keep my xbox seeing as most of my school friends are xbox whores and think PC is a waste of time, but PC will be my true passion.
that sucks but it's not unexpected.
well now that nintendo has decided to go with the Ps3 and xbox 360 price model, lets see if they will also follow the fast price drops with most games. Reason being is that it can take years for nintendo games to even be lowered by 10 bucks. While some games 2 years and its 20 bucks or less.
Well the Wii U seems more in line with the PS4/whatever the hell the next Xbox is called in terms of hardware so I guess it's fair enough.
You don't lower it if they still sell like hotcakes. That's just bad business.
Yeah, AAA PC games still tend to have the $50 tag, except for a few ones (like CoD, ugh).
I think that the big difference is that while PS3/X360 games may start at 59USD, even big-name releases go down in price at a rapid pace, but Nintendo-games almost never make that huge price-drop. I mean Super Mario Galaxy 2, released more than 2 years ago, still basically costs over 45USD new. All the while, Max Payne 3, released just a few months ago, can be found for basically half price. Also, it somehow feels much more justified to pay full price for a game such as Deus Ex Human Revolution or other AAA-games, because you know they cost ALOT to develop. But for games such as New Super Mario Bros or the Punch Out-game for Wii, I just feel slightly ripped-off if I pay full price for it. I feel like a price point similar to the firs Katamari Damacy, that they sold for around 30USD if I remember correctly, would be more reasonable for these low-cost games.
I draw the line at 60. If big name companies want more, I just won't play their game, which is perfectly manageable. Just stinks that most other people will pay more and nothing will really change. On another note, I believe that as games become more expensive, fanboys and girls become more rabid because they can afford less games to branch out with their interests. Every big release could be even more of a mini console war.
So now we pay the same for worse stuff, awesome. So, Wii will shake its costumers for PC fanbase. More fanboys that arent nerds? oh well will have to deal.
Only console I own and ever owned is a Commodore 64. Looks like that will stay that way for a while. Hurray open platforms, hurray PC gaming, for having to compete with pirates is apparentelly the only reason developers have to set reasonable prices.
Wow! :D xD | |
The suggested retail prices were in the press materials Nintendo released alongside their announcement yesterday. So Nintendo is the source, which is why there's not one listed.
Yeah but if you check any nintendo game you want right now thats still above the $40 mark and see their sales chart they are minimal at best. Nintendo just has a habit of putting their foot down on prices which makes me wait 3-5 years to play any given game. That is also bad business. Also most people are thinking of mario and zelda games with the $60 price tag. But the Wii was most well known for weaker version of series and the massive shovelware that will also share that 60 dollar price tag with glee.
Just don't buy games when they're new. Paying full price for brand new games is throwing money away.
If the games weren't worth the money, then the USED first party games, the prices of which ninty doesn't really control, wouldn't still have their really friggin high prices. meanwhile, the third party shovels are dead in the ditch, so that can't be it, either hmmmmmm could the games actually just be good? nah, that doesn't meet the ridiculously biased standards that we use to judge games
many console players only got a wii because ps3 and 360 were far too expensive at the time... wont be a killing blow for the already dying nintendo but sure wont help will only speed up the inevitable death, with the arcadey light hearted games microsoft and sony are pumping out lately it leaves nintendo as why bother with them, imo nintendo was a safe bet for cheap clean fun (I have all 3 consoles over the course of the years) never been fond of it only really mario n zelda were pretty good the rest were pretty rubbish not really "full" games, so i just stick to pc and use emulators to play the console exclusives from yester year and pic up the games that are multi platformed
Super Nintendo games, when new, were $70. I'm tired of people complaining that they are paying $60 for a game they may not like. In the Super Nintendo era, it was even riskier, because you either relied on reviews completely, or got lucky enough to have a friend who had the game. Or rented it first, if a rental place was nearby. I'm not ecstatic that Nintendo raised the price. Just trying to add a bit of perspective for people.
Haven't people been saying that Nintendo is dying since the N64 era? That is a long death, and they must be the most popular dying company ever, struggling to maintain their number one spot in console sales this generation.
Nintendo Confirms Wii U Software Pricing
Wii U games will get a price increase from last generation.
Though Nintendo announced two different price points for the Wii U console earlier today, it failed to mention how much the games would cost. The publisher has now confirmed that Wii U software will be priced at $59.99, which is a ten dollar increase over last generation's Wii games.
This doesn't come as a huge surprise; Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 games have been $59.99 since the respective consoles launched, while Wii games remained at $49.99. Still, with the holiday gaming season already looking pretty expensive, it would have been nice to see Wii U games stay at fifty bucks so we could save a few pennies.
It will be a while before we know whether or not Sony and Microsoft are also going to increase pricing for their next-gen games, but let's hope this isn't the start of a trend. And of course, this only applies to the high-end Wii U titles; there will likely still be plenty of games priced under $60. Nintendo's first confirmed launch games, New Super Mario Bros. U and Nintendo Land, both have $59.99 suggested retail prices, making the premium Wii U bundle (which includes Nintendo Land) look like an even better value.
