Dfskelleton:
Wait a minute, wasn't Bioshock an Xbox 360/PC exclusive, until a PS3 edition was released a couple years later? How is the Big Daddy a "Sony All Star"?

OT: This has equal potential to suck or be great.

image

I have NO idea why Big Daddy is considered a "Playstation" All-star. He WAS Xbox exclusive for awhile. I have the game. It says so right on the cover.

Then again, their other "Playstation" All-stars include the reboot Dante (which will be on 360), Heihachi (whose Tekken games are on both Xbox and Nintendo platforms), Raiden (whose new game was revealed as an Xbox Kinect-supported title and Raiden himself was playable in MGS2 on original Xbox).

And two Coles is still BS. He takes up two slots out of a meager 20-character roster? I don't even care if he has a different playstyle. Smash Bros has characters like Zelda able to turn into Sheik, Samus can lose her armor and fight in her Zero Suit, and even Pokemon trainer can swap out THREE different characters to use in the game. They couldn't do that with Cole?

The lack of Crash, Spyro, Lara Croft, and even Cloud Strife is baffling. Let's be honest here... those games, with those characters, were THE reasons to buy a Playstation back in the day. NOBODY bought a PS3 for Fat Princess.

It's also like they've forgotten they have over 100 Sony-owned, Sony-produced, Sony-exclusive franchises in existence, from the popular (where are ICO/Shadow of the Colossus characters?) to the more obscure (Legend of the Dragoon? Mister Mosquito?), and even then a TON of third-party games are actually exclusive (Heavy Rain? Lair? Haze? Folklore?) or they got their start and popularity on Sony consoles (Legacy of Kain? Xenogears/Xenosaga? Parasite Eve? Silent Hill? Resident Evil?)

Sir Dan is the ONLY character I'm genuinely happy to see, but even then his series has been more dead than HE is.

But.. But... No Crash? And no Spyro?

I was looking forward to Crash. )=
Bit of a downer. Still gonna get it I suppose. But still..

What about these two guys? )=

IN WHAT WORLD IS RAIDEN GOOD ENOUGH TO MAKE IT INTO A MAJOR GAME LIKE THIS AND SNAKE ISN'T?!?!? SONY! SONY WAT ARE YOU DOIN??? SONY!!! STAHP!!!!!

GenGenners:

Another problem for Sony (and one that whiners keep forgetting) is that because of the great 3rd-party support they had in previous generations, a lot of the IP's people consider 'classics' for Playstation aren't actually owned by Sony and more often than not were multiplatform games that just happened to be most popular on Playstation.

Yes but the game itself is called Playstation All-Stars, not Sony All-Stars. I...hmm I forgot where I was going with this and instantly dug myself into a hole :(

Trishbot:
Haze

Please...please don't mention Haze...

Two Cole Magraths, come on. Also a character from heavenly sword, why? Has Heavenly sword become some cult classic since it came out, because as far as I'm aware most of us have forgotten about it. It's a shame that they couldn't get the rights to a lot of the characters that we actually think of as "Big Name" Playstation characters, which I feel does a bit of damage to the appeal. I mean a few of these characters we're never going to remember a few years down the line really, Fat FUCKING PRINCESS? Really scraping the bottom of the barrell there sony.

Also from looking at the gameplay I've seen it seems a bit sparse on things, I hope all the characters have a big move set, otherwise it's going to be a bit spartan on things to do, SSBrothers has items and the awesome stages which spice combat up a bit.

ProtoChimp:
Oh Fuck off fuck right off. COLE MACGRATH IS THERE TWICE! I don't care if one is evil and one's good, its gonna be a clone, and believe me there were enough clones in Brawl. It should have been an extra skin for him, I will give them credit if they play differently but I seriously seriously doubt it. And why are they almost all just PS3 characters? Why would you limit yourselves so much? If you don't own the property fair enough but surely, surely the companies would be more than willing to allow their characters to be in the game. Doesn't Naughty Dog own Crash along with Nathan Drake AND Jack and Daxter? This is just... blegh I know fanboys who wouldn't wanna buy this.

Naughty Dog ain't owned Crash for a loooong time, they sold the rights after CTR. So they've actually made quite few of the games in the series at this point. But those are the ones we remember and love.

If it's as simple to play as smash bros. I will totally get this. My foster kids'll love it. I'm going to wait for reviews on this one.

Don't worry everyone! All your favourite characters will be released in 6 months time once its released in the

Super ultimate Playstation all stars version for $60!

Ehhh...well, it's got Daniel Fostesque. That's actually pretty awesome. And hey, at least Jak, Ratchet and Sly made it.

I'm just worried it's gonna feel and play more like Clayfighters and Dream Mix TV (Weird character smash-up game that's just plain confusing) as opposed to Smash Bros (Really well done character smash-up game). But we'll see...

Trishbot:
I have NO idea why Big Daddy is considered a "Playstation" All-star. He WAS Xbox exclusive for awhile. I have the game. It says so right on the cover.

Same reason why the Xbox touts BioShock as their exclusive title when it was on the PC since launch: shit rarely makes sense.

Ahh, how refreshing. While everyone else in this thread whines and moans about the particular selection of characters included in this game, you have concern only for the amount of joy your children will receive from playing it. Bravo my good man, you win this thread.

Actually, the cover says "Only on Xbox Live AND Windows"... which are both Microsoft platforms.

I'm not opposed to third-party, but in no way has Bioshock ever been a "Playstation" All-star (especially over the likes of Crash, Spyro, and others.)

I must have read that wrong then. I was going by what it said on my cover of the game, which is "Only for XBOX 360." My bad. My original point was that people don't make any sense when they're doing things.

But yeah, that's completely valid. He really doesn't belong there (and it's not like Sony is stretched for mascots,) so I can see where you're coming from.

I can understand why Spyro and Crash aren't included, seeing as the rights to both characters are flying all over the place. Can't say I'm not disappointed though.

Wow, most of those guys didn't come to mind when I imagined Playstation All-Stars... I'm kinda disappointed. I know they don't own the rights to them, but I was still hoping for Spyro, Crash, the Prince of Persia & Lara Croft to name a few.

At least they got Ratchet & Clank and Jak & Daxter...

I just don't know who this game is FOR. Sony is still trying to build a character-based reputation, but it's ludicrous. They don't have a Mario, or a Sonic, or even a console mascot (you know, besides the one in the game. Who sucks.)!

You know who they DID have? Spyro. You know who they DON'T have? Spyro!

They don't own any of these characters. Console exclusive? What's that? I don't care. A good percentage of Nintendo's characters came from the current head of the company himself. They own them.

I love my PS3, but I don't see this game being a big success. Remember Playstation Move Heroes? That was a joke.

Grey Carter:
Super Smash Bros. had just 12 playable characters. Brawl, the most recent installment in the series, clocks in at 35.

With about 15 move sets between them.

Hey, yeah... where's Wander? He has a sword (which can reflect light), a bow (that he is a master with) and a huge, loyal horse (that he can do various moves riding on or jumping off). He could potentially also have a parachute, an explosive arrow type, an invisibility cloak, or a long-range electric harpoon. He even has alternate costumes: Mask of Power w/ Cloak of Force, Shaman's Mask w/ Shaman's Cloak, or even Possessed Wander, all with different-looking swords. Hell, he could just be tackling some Colossus in the background of a SotC fight stage, or something!

Then there's Spyro, who was a Playstation mainstay, one of the reasons people bought the console (yo, fuck Crash. A soulless corporate mascot who isn't half as cool and hip as he thinks he is, like Sonic the Hedgehog's worst qualities turned up to 11). Spyro can breathe fire, water, ice, wind, and electricity among others, as well as fast headbutts and shielding himself with his wings. He can also glide, or just fly, depending, and while doing so he can "headbash" (charge downwards horns-first). Alternate costumes: legendary Spyro (navy blue skin instead of purple) and dark Spyro (almost black, with white eyes).

So the question is; who is the producer who dropped the ball on negotiating the appearance of these two, and the other missing characters? Hm?

At first, I thought this was a must-buy, but now that I know about the meager character list, I'm going to be a bit more careful.

I was going to make some comment on the inclusions and suspicious absences of this game but shit, PaRappa the rappper. What the hell, that is absolutely amazing. This game is completely worth getting based on that one character. I'm still smiling from when I reached his name in the article. Har de har har.

Big Daddy (Bioshock): Not Playstation exclusive.

Cole MacGrath (InFamous): Same as below, but blue.

Evil Cole MacGrath (InFamous): Same as above, but red.

Colonel Radec (Killzone): Who?

Dante (DMC: Devil May Cry): Non-exclusive.

Fat Princess (Fat Princess): Who?

Heihachi Mishima (Tekken): Oh, cool.

Jak and Daxter (Jak and Daxter): Awesome!

Kratos (God of War): Ok, cool.

Nariko (Heavenly Sword): Does anyone even remember her?

Nathan Drake (Uncharted): Oh, cool. Him again.

PaRappa the Rapper (PaRappa the Rapper): Oh, this guy. Awesome.

Raiden (Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance): Awesome, but no Snake? What is this?

Ratchet and Clank (Ratchet and Clank): AWESOME!

Sackboy (Little Big Planet): Good.

Sir Daniel Fortesque (MediEvil): I have loved this character since I was a child.

Sly Cooper (Sly Cooper): Awesome.

Spike (Ape Escape): Has there been an Ape Escape game released in the last 5 years? I hope so.

Sweet Tooth (Twisted Metal): Who?

Toro Inoue (Sony Japan's mascot. Originally featured in Doko Demo Issyo): And again, who?

Sony, just stop. You're embarrassing yourself.

There are plenty of exclusive characters, or at least there were back in the day. The problem is, the PS1 had a lot of well-remembered exclusives and characters, but the PS2 and PS3 really haven't expanded on them. So while Nintendo has its Mario, and Link, and Samus, Sony just has a bunch of characters from games that they don't own the rights to anymore.

So they have non Sony-exclusive characters, and they chose the Dante that's not even the sony exclusive one but the terrible one only capable of saying "fuck you" made by the guys who made Heavenly Sword. As well as the Raiden as opposed to Snake, I'd say something about him being from a multiplat spinoff but he's so much better than the original Raiden.

Really rather odd that Cole is in their twice.
For separate forms.

Wow, that a pathetic lineup. Way to much current nonsense and not enough from Sony's past... you know, back when they had a LOT of franchises? I don't see Crash Bandicoot, nor do I see Robbit. Both of those characters are more "Playsation" then that entire list combined. Spyro is also missing now that I think about it... yeah, this keeps getting worse the more I look at it.

Aside from 2 characters on that list, it looks like Sony completely forgot there was once a PS1.

GenGenners:

Final point: Yes, SSBB has more characters at 35, but come on, how many of those are palette-swaps? How many of those are actually worth playing as? (The token Jigglypuff comes to mind).

Gotta agree here...I've had friends argue with me that wolf, falco, and fox are radically different, and while they do have slight differences there isn't enough of one to justify them as "expanding the roster"(and Pichu? c'mon) give fox a choice of guns and there you go. And if you want to complain about dlc look at MvC3, and of course MvC3 ultimate... Those are also characters that are vastly different so would you call that a bad fanfiction? Honestly I think the characters are interesting and I am fairly sure they didn't include snake because either Nintendo has dibs on him or they didn't want to rip off SSB more than they had. Personally I will get it just for Sir Daniel Fortesque. (oh and Big Daddy not being ps3 exclusive... who gives a crap? It's a freaking Big Daddy...)

They are different, a lot if you're pro, you'll notice.

Even if you aren't, falco and fox might seem similar, but wolf is really different.

Playstation All Stars.

Playstation.

Big Daddy from Bioshock?

*Looks at 360 copy of Bioshock and PC copy of Bioshock 2.*

Erm, what?

I really like MediEvil on ps1, so I'm glad to see that guy getting some love.
But the lack of Crash Bandicoot seems like a huge mistake

While there are some good names on the list (though why does Cole have to be on there twice?), it still feels complete without characters from the PS1 era. Stupid copyrights...

PaRappa the Rapper over Crash Bandicoot? WTF P only had one or two games Crash had games on both PS1 and PS2 and was a mainstay, for years I played them games not very happy with that I hate the word boycott so I'll give this one a miss.

Needs more Spyro/Crash Bandicoot, if you ask me. Still, interesting roster there. If I het a chance, I'll check it out. SSB never really appealed to me because I wasn't into half or more of the characters or their game series. I've played a bit more from the Playstation binges of my high school years though...it's quite possible I might like this game more. :)

Compleatly agree its still nice the old Sir is getting some love.

Captcha: on-off. you are alive ain't you?

omicron1:
I smell post-launch DLC. And lots of it.

Eh. Maybe it won't be too bad to have new characters every couple weeks.

I have no problem with fighting games having DLC if it's handled right, it's a lot better then having five version of a single street fighter game just because Capcom wanted to make a single roaster update.

I think twenty is a bit to many to try working on for their first fighting game, I'd rather have a small collection of characters each completely unique then dozens of clones. I believe Spyro and Crash aren't in the games because they got sold off hopefully Sony can get them back though for the next game or DLC.

I gave up caring about this game the minute I realised it was an interactive advertisement.

Hah. Haha. Ahahaha. Raiden and no Snake? Oh wow. People are going to have a field day with that one. And does that (DMC: Devil May Cry) annotation mean they're using "New Dante" instead of "Classic Dante"? Because if so, that'll cause an uproar too.

I'll be counting the days until the PR starts rolling out.

Raiden but no snake? Other than that and the redundancy of having both cole mcgrath and evil cole mcgrath, no really disappointing or lame choices.
