Serious Sam 3 Blows Up XBLA Next Week

The incomparable Rich Knuckles has some good news for Xbox 360 owners.

Almost a full year after Serious Sam roared back to the PC, all that talk about a console version of the game is finally about to pay off. The release date for the Xbox Live Arcade version of Serious Sam 3: BFE is brought to us by none other than Sexy Mobile Helpline Operator Rich Knuckles, who appears to have done almost as well for himself on the back of Croteam's hard work as Devolver Digital CFO Fork Parker. What a guy!

Because it was impossible to cram all the old-school manliness of Serious Sam 3 into a single XBLA game, it's being released in two separate chunks. Serious Sam 3: BFE will include the original single-player campaign and the online and split-screen co-op modes, while the Serious Sam 3: Jewel of the Nile expansion will include the add-on campaign plus all the multiplayer versus modes.

"Awesome, now I can go from getting absolutely annihilated by some loudmouth with a mouse and keyboard to getting annihilated by some loudmouth with an Xbox 360 controller," said Parker. "Damn these silky smooth thumbs."

Both BFE and Jewel of the Nile will hit the Xbox Live Aracde on October 17 and will be priced at 1200 Microsoft points each. And speaking of the Jewel of the Nile DLC, the PC version is coming one day in advance of the XBLA release - that's October 16 - with three new campaign missions, new bosses and even more guns. More guns! Because like the famous man once said, there's no problem in the world that can't be solved by shooting it in the face.

The others weren't and they're making SS3 for Linux, they get a free pass at selling out.

But I wasn't aware that they made the others for consoles. That's interesting, I suppose.

Their original plan was to release for the consoles from the start if I recall, so I hardly see it as selling out.

Because my "if they make a linux port they can do whatever" was a serious statement...

Nor do I... The article states it's been a plan from the beginning.

This is getting very meta.
It's scaring me.

why so serious? Sam. It is only a game

Wait wait wait wait wait. Did I read that correctly? The core game and the DLC are the same price?

Fuck off.

Yes, and collectively they still come in at substantially cheaper than the PC version of Serious Sam 3 without the DLC. 2400 MS points is $30, Serious Sam 3 plus Jewel of the Nile on Steam will be $50. There's nothing to complain about.

Neat. I have shit laptop (in the process of building a desktop from scratch), so this is welcome news.

Plus, it's nice to supposrt devs who throw in split-screen into their games.

How the hell do you play Serious Sam with an Xbox pad? Hopefully Croteam employs an auto-aim system that's well-balanced 'n stuff. I'd hate for Xbox users to grow to despise what is otherwise an excellent shooter because it's ill-suited for controllers.

What happened to the PS3 version? Is that still happening?

The core game was $30 (on Steam it still is), you are just getting it at half price and the DLC at regular price.

But I would suggest everyone just buys the basic game for starters because this game is not for everyones taste, the new iteration isn't great design all around some parts have gotten quite bothersome.
