I totally don't like how Disney is eating up every other company and getting bigger and bigger?
I find it scary anyways.

As for StarWars: I hope good things will happen. But I also see grave danger :<

As long as we don't get a Spin off with Jar Jah as his own main character, i would be really upset.

I've always considered Episode VII an inevitability. Disney buying Lucasarts: not so much.

Hey, If Disney uses their Vast, Vast, Vast, Vast, Vast, Vast, Vast, Vast, Vast, Vast, Vast, Vast, VAST Resources and get some of the Marvel Studio People involved...

It just might work.

Robert Downey JR. as a Sith Lord.

Make it happen.

O.O

it's beautiful...

Disney...let this happen! (i know it wont but a boy can dream...)

Ne1butme:

Two families, both alike in dignity.
One, the Minions of Lucas, t'other
Scions of Disney, Locked In Business's
Warm Embrace. Ooo Fair Lucas, Oft Driven
mad by images of Gungans. And Fair Disney,
Flush with Assembled Currency, but unbowed.

Like Henry at Agincourt, From this Day
til the ending of the world, Thy few,
THY HAPPY FEW. THY BAND OF BROTHERS!

Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow
2015 creeps up this petty pace from film to film
Until the last syllable of the opening crawl
And all our yesterdays have lighted fanboys
Their way to shitty prequels
Out, out brief quality
Lucas is but a sitting shadow
A rich director that blues or greens his "special effects" onto the soundstage
And then is active no more
It is a property sold by an idiot
Full of Industrial Light and Magic

Signifying nothing

seriously dude, awesome avatar - i was watching that night and was all like "wwhhhaaaa"

So do I.

An empire bent on monopolizing the entertainment industry, it is. Stifle competition it will. An alliance of rag-tag rebels to stifle stop said stifling we must form.

Pardon my English lol, I really should have read that again, sorry I am not a native speaker and it relativly late.

But I'm glad I am not alone feeling kinda nyeh about it.

Well there already Star Wars related rides in Desney World so it shouldn't be that much of a suprise. Well as long as George is not too much involve in Episode 7 it could be good since the Star Wars universe is vast.

This is one of those new pieces i couldn't believe at first.

I wasnt sure id see more star wars films in my lifetime, and certainly didnt expect there will be the disney logo presenting the film.

At the very least, expect tons of star wars-disney crossovers!

Yeah, this is definitely good news for Star Wars, bad news for the free market. lol
It's like in just two years Disney took over Asia, Africa, and North America in a game of Risk. And what happens when they finally cover the whole board? Game over, man. Game. Over.

Calling it now: they go after Nintendo next.

Well my thoughts:

If moviebob doesn't say a thing about this, hes failed us.
Oh boy now the fans will complain more...
What the heck will these new films cover?

Bigger shocker: they acquire EA.

One evil empire added into an even bigger, somewhat-less evil empire.

Eh, they're probably all already owned by one guy anyway, and they're just tossing crumbs to the pidgeons slowly.

Wow, this is a surprise that came out of nowhere.

But only 4 billion?

Looks like George Lucas is looking to retire. I wish him well. The guy worked pretty hard (regardless what you think of his story telling and directing) the last couple of decades to create Lucas Film, Lucas Arts, ILM ... etc, contributed quite a bit to the film industry.

That is unexpected. However, is Disney making a campaign on all nostalgia. First Marvel, now Lucas. Who's next?

Hm?

Consider me intruiged.
It'll be interesting to see what they'll do with this franchise. It's in dire need of more capable hands, and maybe Disney can provide it.

Im feeling like I should have a strong opinion about this... I'm just not quite sure what it is yet.

Bloody unexpected though.

This is just beyond horrible....

(From the BBC News article)http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-20146942

"In a statement announcing the purchase, Disney said it planned to release a new Star Wars film, episode seven, in 2015.

That will be followed by episodes eight and nine and then one new movie every two or three years, the company said."

*facepalm* so Disney will just grind out more and more Star Wars movies until its like every other played out franchise out there.

The worst of it is Disney homogenizes everything, they took a well-loved English series of books...Winnie the Pooh and made it almost unrecognizable, even getting rid of central characters and replacing them with 'more relevant' characters of their own creation. Guessing they will do the same with Star Wars too

A decade ago I would've gone "NOOOOOO!!!"

A few years ago I would've been merely shocked and horrified.

Now I'm just surprised. Lucas has run the franchise into the ground. Disney can do no worse (please don't prove me wrong).

Holy shit, that was unexpected. I thought that even death wouldn't be able to separate Lucas and Star Wars.
I actually do want to give Disney a shot at the franchise. No idea what they'll do with it but it can't get any worse, right guys? Right?

Anyway, now I have to go and watch the movies again.

No wait, now that I think about it. Could the Star Wars universe be part of Kingdom Hearts 3 now? Can I please have a Lightsaber Keyblade and fight alongside Luke? In that case I wouldn't mind the long wait for the next game at all.

It truly is halloween then.

Hah. Some people are already regretting ever calling George washed up and condemning the prequels to hell. Will they stick with their guns and call this as a turn for the better, or embrace the prequels going into the future to spite Disney?

Not sure if I'm okay with this but hey at least it can't be worse than the prequels...

This is amazing news! I'm genuinely excited!

Ignorant People:

ZOMG! STAR WARS HAS BEEN DEAAAADDD!!! DAMN YOU LUCAS!!!!1111!!!!1!!ONE! HAN SHOT FIRST!

You have heard of something called the Expanded Universe? New Jedi Order? Yuzan Vhong war? Empire of the Hand? Darth Plagueis? Ben Solo? Dark Forces: Jedi Knight II: Jei Outcast? Star Wars: Bounty Hunter? Darth Bane? Legacy Era? The surprisingly kick ass TV show? Those things? Its not just the movies and games, ya know...

A thought just occurred to me: Disney owns "The Muppets"... Disney owns "Star Wars"... Jim Henson Co. Could definitely make puppets for Star Wars 7! And if their darker puppets are successful, maybe Jim Henson Co. can make their Dark Crystal Sequel.

OT: Not a fan of Star Wars but this does leave me with a lot of questions: Is the Star Wars: The Clone Wars Cartoon and the Star Wars Robot Chicken Special owned by Disney now? Can Robot Chicken do more Star Wars skits? Will Star Wars 4-6 be in KH3 now? A Star Wars Reboot that's Animated?! The possibilities are endless with Disney owning LucasArts/Lucasfilms.

N3squ1ck:

Oh, I would not be worried. LucasFilms might have 2 huge franchises under their belt (Indiana Jones and Star Wars), but that's it, and with Indiana Jones done, LucasFilms only has Star Wars. Disney acquiring Lucasfilms is basically like Disney acquiring the rights to Star Wars, that's all really. Same with them owning Jim Henson Co,: It's basically them having acquired "The Muppets" plus some minor films that weren't as popular as "The Muppets" Franchise.

Their acquiring of Marvel was them getting bigger, but since they've churned good movie after good movie, that can be forgiven.

DVS BSTrD:
I guess you could say Star Wars fans might just have...

*puts on sunglasses*

...A New Hope

Congratulations. I hope you feel good about that one mate. No sarcasm, I somehow didn't think it up ):

ot: Could be good for the franchise to be honest but I'm not that huge of a fan anyway. I predict an actual Deathstar in the near future though.

This kinda sounds like what happened to the Halo franchise. All I can say is, suck it Star Wars fanboys. Now you get to feel my pain.

O_O

HOLY #@$%.

I didn't expect this.

I am not if this will be a good or bad thing. >_>

capta: Skynet knows

._.

WHAT DO YOU KNOW SKYNET!?! TELL US YOUR SECRETS? D:

Is it some kind of obscure american joke-holiday in october that I dont know of?

Seriously though, Disney haven't produced anything good since the lion king and Lucas since Episode 6 so this is like the partnership made in crap-hell.

Disney shits out horrible sequels... Oh god they're gonna ruin everything.

But maybe disney will put out the original unedited trilogy since the fat guy won't

Wow this is amazing, at least the series will be doing SOMETHING instead of stagnating.

Anachronism:
Now, more seriously. Why? Why Episode 7? What is the point? As much as people tend to hate the prequels, the saga as it currently stands tells one consistent story: the rise, fall and redemption of Anakin Skywalker.

SW was never about "the rise and fall of Anakin Skywalker". The original trilogy was Luke's story through and through - it was never Anakin's. That was something Lucas wanted to push when he made the Prequel Trilogy, and he's spent enough time trying to convince people of this latter goal that most people still don't believe him.

That, and Lucas had (at one point) intended the series to be a series of 9 films, with Episode 6 ending with the Millennium Falcon blowing up and Luke walking off into the Tatooine desert.

I get the feeling that Lucas (due to a combination of the fans loathing him/no family members willing to take up the mantle of running the company) just decided to wash his hands and be rid of it. Aside from Clone Wars, has there even been a truly great piece of Star Wars media in the last five years?

TOR was a disaster, and Galaxies fell before it. Battlefront 3 had so much promise, but was never released. TFU and its sequel were good-to-terrible Expanded Universe tales. The series has been in a coma ever since ROTS, and that film had a ton of problems.

I see this partnership only as a good thing. If they can revamp it and put out another solid trilogy, I'll be in the theatre watching.

Even though this is Disney we are talking about here... I'd be genuinely surprised if they were able to do a worse job than the man himself did.

Because my god, the Prequel Trilogy was just about as bad as it could conceivably have been. I mean of course you could imagine it being worse, but the prequel trilogy as it was released was as bad as it could have been released without crossing the line of totally inability for even the lowest common denominator to swallow.

Who knows... they might find a way to make it as shocking as Transformers. Depends if they put a Star Wars fan in charge of it or a "money fan" because I think they plan on making back that $4 billion they paid for it pretty quick.
