New Zealand wasn't exactly put on the map by Peter Jackson and his fantastically successful film adaption of The Lord of the Rings, but the island nation to the east of Australia is certainly milking it for all it's worth. In an amazingly entertaining video created through a partnership between Air New Zealand and the Weta Workshop - the effects house that worked on Jackson's movies - elves, hobbits and a wizard let you know exactly how to fly like you're in Middle Earth.
The whole 4 and a half minute video is pretty much awesome, but a few zingers deserve mentioning. The bit with the hair dryer blowing a handsome ranger's hair back got me chuckling, and the shared look between the stewardess and the man about blowing to inflate the life preserver is pure gold. Peter Jackson's quick appearance wielding the one Ring was probably as good a cameo as possible, but I loved seeing Gollum creep along the aisle too. The guy wearing the Eye of Sauron headdress thingie at about 30 seconds is one of those easy to miss jokes too.
Honestly, if that was my in flight instructional film, I would actually pay attention to it. I mean, I've already watched it a few times and I'm not even on a dang plane. It's that good.
As i live in NZ i fly Air NZ a lot and they always have hilarious safety videos, should look up some of the other ones (though some people might not get the jokes, its a Kiwi thing)! Woohoo! Go NZ!
I think I recognize some of these people from the other well-known Air New Zealand video. Which is funny because they're under so many more layers now.
(Note, video NSFW if you have a very prudish workplace.)
So New Zealand is going to be forever known as the location used to film The Lord of the Ring trilogy (and also The Hobbit)? I'm not saying it's a bad thing but there are other things that New Zealand have.

Given the choice between Lord Of The Rings and the whole sheep thing, I know which I'd pick...

As far as I am aware the only other things New Zealand has is sheep and rugby players. Have I missed something?
We've always had amazing safety videos in NZ, but I can easily see why this one would have a bigger following.
...and what do you mean, not put on the map? Have you heard of Rugby World Cup, rugby in general, Kiwis, Weta Workshop, Flight of the Conchords, the bloody springless trampoline? And various other things either too numerous to mention or rather I can't think of any now? Just saying, bro. NZ is mean as!
Loving the Hobbit's marketing so far. Absolutely brilliant!

Well hey, look at the Netherlands. A country with a long and proud history; of a massive trading empire, far flung colonies, of artistic contributors such as Rembrandt and van Gogh; and brave folk such as those that hid Anne Frank from Gestapo agents.
But do we remember this, or do we remember that dope is legal in Amsterdam?

Don't they usually shoot Power Rangers series in New Zealand?
Just now realizing that the US's airplanes are kinda ghetto by comparison. It's been a while since I've flown anywhere, but I am fairly certain our planes are not nearly that nice
I hope the people working on Shadowrun are watching, because those elves rocked the business-suit-and-medieval-cloak look in a way no one ever theorised was possible.
