Vergil Playable in DmC DLC

Capcom has confirmed DmC's first DLC pack will let you play as Dante's grumpy brother, Vergil.

Is the new Dante design getting you down? Well, you could play as his slightly more traditional brother, Vergil, assuming you either pre-order DmC or shell out $9 for post-launch DLC.

Vergil's Downfall tells "the untold story of Dante's twin brother." Considering Vergil's defeat and eventual resurrection as Neo Angelo was covered in Devil May Cry 1 and 3, I'm guessing we're going to see another deviation from the established canon. The pack's title implies it'll end on a similar note, however.

The DLC pack, which will be available in early 2013 for both the PS3 and 360 versions of the game, contains a separate storyline and adds new weapons, locations enemies and combos. It's going for $9 (720 MS Points), but North American gamers can get it for free if they pre-order the game through GameStop or EB Games.

Capcom's press release stresses that the DLC isn't included on the retail disk, but I doubt that'll do much to placate fans who think the series is heading in the wrong direction. Vergil was also playable in Devil May Cry 3 - which is widely regarded as the high point of the series - for the ever popular price of free.

DmC: Devil May Cry launches on January 15th, 2013, with a PC port to follow sometime that year.

You know? I like this. I like this because it encourages me all the more to fire up Devil May Cry 3 and own the shit out of demons with real Vergil.

I'm not even pissed. It's just more silliness.

Kind of shitty that it's not going to be on the pc, what with that version looking like the best option.

On the other hand, 9 bucks is fairly steep and probably too much for what they're selling anyway.

I hope it is on the PC, I don't wanna play at a crappy 30fps if I don't have to ):

Well it seems that Vergil combat is more interesting than DMC 3 Vergil.
It isn't enough to make me want the game but I am pleased to see them giving more care to this Vergil gameplay wise than lackluster copy paste that was playable in 3.

All in all, good move.

Just a little thing, but technically should XBLA not be Xbox 360, unless Capcom have chosen an odd way to release DmC on 360? (Which to be fair, I wouldn't put it past them)

Anyway, I think you're right, this isn't going to placate any fans I would think, especially those who don't particularly like Vergil's redesign either.

Considering Vergils redesign has been met with...less than stellar reception, I am confused as to why they are announcing this before the bloody game is released.

That said, it will probably be better than Vergils story in 3 (Just all of Dantes levels with the cutscenes removed) That was super lame...

-_-

Vergil uses an advanced sword form called Iaido, i.e., nearly every slash is returned to the scabbard before he slashes again.

From what I saw in that video, he ain't doin' much of that...

I'm down for this. Vergil's redesign doesn't bother me... it's the goofy dialogue he's spouting in all of the trailers. He just seems like a tool.

No problem for me though, I had planned to get this game anyway and I already have it pre-ordered.

Because clearly the only problem people have with this is the design.

What's that? You hate Vergil's hair?

That's all I see fans complain about. They never say anything about the gameplay or the story; it's always the hair.

He has a different hairstyle. Get over it.

I have Bayonetta on PS3, apparently its shit because its on the PS3 if you listen to the internet, it isn't, its sublime. Same with DmC and most (I say most for a reason) games, playing on Xbox or PC or Wii vitality sensor doesn't make it better all of a sudden

Actually Virgil's isn't as bad because it's actually white....could still look better though. Dante is the one with the wrong hair ^_^

I hate Vergil's new hair.
There is plenty of hate for the story, my personal favourite being Dante's stupid half demon, half angel backstory.

I hope this game bombs. So hard.

And what is it with devs advertising DLC before the game's come out? Are you that desperate for money? It just comes across all wrong.

Is it that surprising? I mean Capcom is involved after all.

Technically, it was the Special Edition of Devil May Cry 3. Kinda sucks if you got the first version already, but on the flip side, if you had a save file from the original version (not a game clear file, just a save file), you got Vergil and the Bloody Palace unlocked right off the bat. As for the actual use in-game, he basically just replaced Dante, with the cutscenes removed. Adding a separate storyline seems like a move in the right direction. Except for that $9 price tag. Great going Capcom. I'm sure you'll just sell SO many of those DLCs.

Did we play the same Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition? I saw Vergil do scabbard smacking, followed by one slash with Yamato and then sheathing the blade, ending the combo. I guess he DOES sheathe it after a slash, but one slash isn't much to base EVERY slash on. And lets not forget his more punchy-kicky style when using Beowulf, or his longer slashing combo when using ForceEdge with Yamato. So long as the gameplay's good, I don't mind if he doesn't strictly follow one single school of combat.

Funny thing, his hair looks almost like his DMC3 opening cutscene not-slicked-back hair. Which is to say it looks almost like Dante's original hair, just a bit shorter. So, yeah. Don't really mind. Hell, it almost seems like the devs throwing the fans a bone. Well, half a bone. From someone's middle finger. But a bone nonetheless.

Well, I suppose if he's only use Yamato then there's gotta be a way to prolong combos.

But yes, what I mean was that Vergil's move set with default Yamato was very deliberate and you had to think a lot quicker on your feet in regards to combos since his attacks didn't last ten minutes like Dante's :D

Remember when you could play as Dante and Vergil on the same disc without really paying extra (assuming you bought the Special Edition only)?

Yeah, you did have to be pretty careful. Helps that Yamato's combo finisher tends to knock most enemies backward and to the ground, though. Good for busting out of a crowd.

Pretty much my thoughts. MONTHS before the game is released they announced DLC character that has been playable before in previous DMC games that could have also been included in the release but purposely withheld?

I'm sorry capcom but no sell. I didn't really care about the whole hair fiasco, the FPS problem did disturb me, and now this seals the deal for saying F no to this new DMC. Companies are getting too bold with showcasing their stupidity.

rather than shitty DLC I would've prefered co-op with Dante and Vergil
I'll be honest the new looks have sort of grown on me and since I read so many comics I'm fine with having an alternate universe in videogames, but if Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor's Edge can do co-op why can't DMC do co-op

Do they realize that they just spoiled the (extremely obvious) ending to the game?

Tameem Antionades just tweeted that this DLC will be free.

If that isn't damage control, I don't know what is.

Considering that this game's target audience is people who have never played a DMC game before, not many people would.

Moontouched-Moogle:

Fuck yeah you had to be careful, I'm pretty sure most of Vergil's single weapon combo hits were programmed with a "smack down" property, and some if not most had "stun" capibilities which would "stun" the enemy for a few frames, which made him so powerful for so little moves.

But I don't care about that, I just want to use DARK SLAYER, its the melding of Trickster and Royal Guard on amphetamines, to prove this here is example;

1)using Trickster in trouble you'd dodge out the way, and then your too far away to launches a counter attack, you coward

2)using Royal Guard you'd block the hit and panic that you didn't get a perfect match, then you'd blag to your friends that your fucking awesome with Royal Guard and that you fucking wiped the floor with Vergil using RG in one hit because you knew the perfect frame to block and how with Royal Guard your totally hot shit

3)using Dark Slayer you'd teleport straight into their face, juggle them, teleport up to them, combo the crap out of them, teleport up to that gold orb you saw, teleport down and taunt them in a passive aggressive manner, teleport in the same place cos your about to get hit and then unleash phantom swords, then juggle the crap out of every enemy in the room LIKE A FUCKING BOSS

I just liked being all in their face all of the time, which vergil's dark slaye style gave me.

I drove a car once that wasn't a Ferrari, I still enjoyed the ride.

This is the first thing in this fucking game that actually looked remotely similar to something that might just be slightly emulating Devil May Cry.

That's the highest compliment i've given to this game so far...but i still don't have even the remotest of hopes for this thing whatever it is.
If not for how Ninja Theory have handled this fucking appauling matter then for what they did in butchering the original feel, lore, backstory of the main characters, characterisation of original characters like Dante, Vergil and even Mundas.

In the original Vergil was a morally ambiguous badass who we knew very little about, and that mystery made him very intriguing. In this game Ninja theory not only made the mistake of throwing all their details about his history onto the table, but by making him so....boring...Sure, some of the fighting style is their but his personality seems so freaking bland now.

Above all though i feel sorry for Daystar of all people. The poor guy worshipped Vergil, and i honestly couldn't blame him for it, whilst i tended to view Dante as awesome (Though vergil was a very close second.
