Original Batmobile Hits the Auction Block

Original Batmobile Hits the Auction Block

For the first time ever, the Batmobile from the 1960s television show is being put up for sale.

For some of us, there's only one true Batmobile: the fearsome, finned, double-domed convertible monstrosity that prowled the streets of Gotham in the 1960s. There are few vehicles more instantly recognizable, and for the first time ever, the opportunity to own this bad boy is being made available to one and all.

The goddamn Batmobile is actually a heavily-modified Lincoln Futura concept car, itself a one-of-a-kind vehicle, that was created for the television series in 1965 by George Barris. Barris' has many noteworthy automotive creations to his name including KITT, the General Lee, the Munster's car and others, but the Batmobile is his best-known work and it's remained in his collection since he built it. The car is powered by a 390 V8 engine and a B&M Hydro automatic transmission, and features numerous Bat-customizations including a Batphone, remote Batcomputer, Batscope, Emergency Bat-Turn Level and more. (Not all of the extra Bat-options are guaranteed to work.)

How much it will fetch is anybody's guess at this point, but you can bet it won't be cheap. The Batmobile will go on the block at the Barrett-Jackson Auction House on January 19.

BRB taking out a loan.

Why would he sell his most prized creation?! I guess his kids would rather have money in his will than the batmobile. What disappointing children.

I will laugh my head, ass, and whatever other body parts apply off if Adam West wants to buy this.

Waaghpowa:
BRB taking out a loan.

"There are 47% of Americans... who believe... that they're entitled... to driving around like superheros. I'll never convince them that they should take responsibility, and earn the money themselves. So I'm not even going to try. They'll vote for Daystar no matter what I do"

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the Adam West Batmobil is the ugliest and most impractical of all the Batmobiles ever. Even more than the Christopher Nolan one.

Aaaand here comes the hate.

the batmobile cooooo....

wait why was this thing considered cool looking?

It's nice and all, but personally, I'd rather the 1949 Mercury or, better still, the '39 Cadillac convertible.

I don't know what you guys are talking about, I think the car looks awesome. And for the sake of competition, I say the winning bid will be $46 million.

So just to be clear, this is the original Lincoln Futura concept car - which was modified into the original Batmobile some 11 years after being built.

Not often you get the chance to buy an actual concept car.

cool, I mean I'd rather have the one from the Tim Burton films, or the Tumbler but i wouldn't mind having that in the garage, would make a great conversational piece

This is actually my Batmobile of choice:

Funny story. He actually went trick or treating in it once, dressed up as Batman.

Daaaah Whoosh:

I think 46 milion is a bit over the top.
I'm going for the 33 mil...
Cool n' all, just don't think I can afford this one :(

Call me when the Bat Tank is for sale.

I honestly though Adam West would own that. Oh well, someone will get rick off it. Of course the owner is going to need to buy as batsuit to drive it.
