2013 Release Planned For PS3 Skyrim DLC

2013 Release Planned For PS3 Skyrim DLC

image

Dragonborn will be the first PS3 DLC out, according to Bethesda.

Bethesda has claimed that DLC Skyrim content for PS3 - long a source of disgruntlement for PS3 gamers - will be available early next year. Dragonborn will be the first, with Hearthfire and Dawnguard following later.

"On PS3 in particular," said Bethesda in a blog post, "we turned our attention to Dragonborn, as we thought it was the best content to release first, and we didn't want folks to wait longer." The other two will follow, but there's no concrete date on either yet. Even Dragonborn doesn't really have a date as such; early 2013 is the most Bethesda is prepared to say.

"Each one takes a lot of time and attention to work well in all circumstances and all combinations of DLC," Bethesda went on to say. "Once we have a better idea of release timing and pricing, we'll let you know."

well Third times a charm on the PS3... Huh, Huh... anyone?

OT: I thought the main character was already a dragonborn, so what they have had training wheels this whole time, and now they get them taken off?

I really want to know what it was about Dawnguard that they couldn't get to work on PS3. It's hard to imagine they haven't ironed it out in the last 6 months.

I imagine it's less about the specific DLCs and more about the old issue of the PS3's memory causing problems for them, as it caused so many in base Skyrim itself.

So my guess is they found a way to work around that finally, but instead of going back and porting Dawnguard and Hearthfire first, they instead decided to give the newest one and go back to port over the others later.

Yeah, that's likely the case. If Bethesda really wants to get the loyalty back from their PS3 customers they should do some kind of sale for them.

Hmm, too bad I've moved past Skyrim. Sorry Bethesda, but for this PS3 gamer you've waited too long. I might trade in Skyrim (for whatever it would be worth) and get the GOTY edition when its released, but for now, I'm done with Skyrim.

If they want customer loyalty back, as has been suggested many times, they really should give a serious discount on the DLC. If they sell the two older DLC packs for the typical $20, then there are going to be a lot of irate PS3 users out there.

I'm still calling timed exclusive on this, probably had and Non Disclosure Agreement with Microsoft on the matter.

Nah, the DLC is centered around this bloke whose name I can't remember, who was the first Dragonborn.
But yeah, it's a pretty uncreative title for the add-on.

Hanlon's Razor my friend.

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

Releasing a Skyrim program that couldn't properly run on the PS3 architecture was the stupidity.

Well, they started with the right DLC to give to PS3 players, seeing as how people are saying that this is the best so far. I think they should give it to the PS3 people at half price, that would be a nice gesture.

I think it'd make good business sense to toss in Hearthfire for free. It's a nice little DLC, and would make a good apology for technical issues, but also get some interest going again for those on the PS3 who have moved on from the game now.

Unless they give us PS3 owners some kind of sale or good will gesture, then I don't care.

I'm kind done with this own DLC circus that's been happening with Skyrim, and I will probably just stick with the game and not bother with any of these. I still have to finish the main story anyways since I was too busy messing around and exploring. :/

Unless they have an exact date, most disgruntled ps3 owners will assume "early 2013" is december 29th 2013. They lost a lot of consumer trust. Even if it comes out the first week of january, if they continue with the month exclusive waiting, the problem will just keep going.

I wish gaming companies that do multiplatform games treat each platform as equally as possible, instead of doing these exclusive contracts that do nothing but alienate the consumer.

So what exactly did PS3 owners do to deserve free or reduced DLC given so many PS3 owners behavior over Skyrim?

What I've seen:
Bethesda we demand daily updates even if its you saying the same things!
Bethesda it's offensive that you keep telling us the same things!
Bethesda PS3 deserves special treatment, how dare you work on the game for other platforms!
Bethesda we demand updates with specific dates and times so we can complain that you didn't get it done exactly when you said it would be!
Bethesda we don't care that you are having problems with PS3 infrastructure, other completely different games that do not resemble Skyrim except in the vaguest possible way work on the PS3 and Skyrim should work exactly like those games!
Bethesda we demand that DLC now even though we will scream louder if there is any bugs in it at all because you rushed it out!

Yeah, that behavior totally deserves free things given to them.

Glad I have this on my 360, the DLCs are awesome :D

Too late. Maybe if a GOTY edition is released with all DLCs and with all the problems fixed. Otherwise im done with their games.

If it doesnt work, then dont release it and charge full price for it.

Verkula:

So you didn't ever want to play Skyrim then?

I won't believe it until I can buy it. Still, this gives me hope, albeit a small amount.

I think you're completely missing the point. Bethesda was as vague as possible with the details for months. It would have disgruntled anyone. Hell, out of the six things you listed, PC owners were echoing four of them. Timed DLC exclusivity for a multi-platform game is just stupid. It doesn't do anything but alienate consumers. Besides, ME3 players bitched and moaned about the endings, and the extended cut DLC was released for free. There was enough trouble caused that a goodwill gesture of some kind would be a step in the right direction, regardless of how a vocal minority acted. Honestly, I know a lot more people who just gave up, rather than bug Bethesda. They deserve it, even if the people who have been shouting maybe don't.

OT: I'll wait until I see it on the PS Store to believe it. Yes, it's nice to see that maybe they've finally worked everything out, but the fact that it's been a problem for so long makes me reluctant do much more than raise an eyebrow. I love Skyrim, and more content would be awesome, but I'm still not going to hold my breath.

My girlfriend is squeeing the house down right now. Thank you for working it out Bethesda!
Smiley face

That's why it's still not available on Steam either right? Oh wait...

Be mindful that these complaints/comments come from idiots and don't speak for the entire PlayStation community. They just get the most attention because of how ridiculous they sound. Personally I'm pissed, i have well over 200 + hours in skyrim for ps3, and I should be playing the dlc also, even if it sucks. Its not fair that we were promised a product that's been released on other consoles. The delay is unacceptable and yes, we deserve something. I didn't buy Dishonored cause of the skyrim crap thats going on. And yes i know they didn't make that game, only published, but still, I'm not the type of person that will keep buying Cod cause "they might fix the issues from the last one". If Bethesda does absolutely nothing or IMO, a BS price reduction, yeah will be the last product I'll buy from them.

wrightguy0:

Then it wouldnt have made it to the PC either, and they have no reason to hide timed exclusivity.

So you can call it all you want, but you will be wrong, and you will just make yourself look silly

I sincerely hope Bethesda doesn't actually expect us to pay for Dawnguard.

A month or so after the expected release is one thing, but ~5 months for a simple port that should have been ready at the time they released it?

No. It's either free/heavily discounted, or fuck you.

^^THIS^^

I sold my Skyrim and never looked back. I like the game enough, but Bethesda is proving that their testing department is just there for giggles, and I don't like paying $60 to be a beta-tester.

I might get the GOTY edition if they can finally iron out all the bugs all the other developers seemed to be able to work around.

Considering Hearthfire was Skyrim's Horse Armour having PS3 users actually pay for it x months later would be the final blow. I bought my copy for Xbox 360 but I can imagine the frustration of PS3 players being excluded from this content.

Fappy:

Pete Hines, Bethesda's PR guy, has pretty much confirmed, on his twitter, several times, that the "PS3 memory problems" were the cause.

It isn't that the DLC doesn't work on the PS3, it's that it runs like crap because of how the PS3 handles memory, and how Creation engine does its thing.

Proverbial Jon:

Horse armor added horse armor

Hearthfire added
-3 new homes
-different buildable wings for your house
-Adoption
-The ability to change companions into stewards
-Pets

Hearthfire =/= horse armor. try again plz.

While it's nice that they're finally getting around to it this whole debacle should never have happened to begin with.

I'm incredibly reluctant to buy a Bethesda game again after all of this. Yes, they've cited the PS3's memory hardware as being the bulk of the problem but since so many other companies can create multi-platform games and have them run just fine, I'm beginning to think the problem lies with Bethesda.

Not to mention that their games always seem to be horribly bug ridden. The complaints that Skyrim got on all systems made it seem like they didn't even bother to beta test it before releasing it.

In short, I've just lost my patience with them.

I sorry but how does a minor inconvenience equal free stuff? It'd be nice if Bethesda did some kind of discount, or package deal as a goodwill gesture, but you don't get to demand free stuff cause you had to wait.

*Blah blah, complaining, grumble grumble*

What is that armor in the News pic? They have fur collars and hoods. I haven't seen that before?

Until I actually see the DLC on PSN store I'll take this with a grain of salt. I honestly think that Bethesda really screwed the pooch on how they've handled this and while I do know that the memory has been an issue in the past with DLC they could have most likely found a solution ages ago. I honestly think that this has more to do with the "exclusive DLC time" that basically Bethesda always seems to do because they take Microsoft's money. I feel bad for other PS3 users as I've learned to not purchase Bethesda games on the PS3 because this always happens. The only way Bethesda can hope to regain the trust of PS3 users is for them to give a discount on the DLC as this whole debacle has really damaged their image. Plus Skyrim is already buggy as hell which is honestly why I stopped playing it after I got all the achievements and beat the story, had to try and work through all the stupid bugs, 10 months ago. All I knows is that Fallout 4 better not have these problems or I'm honestly going to be just done with Bethesda in general.

well I haven't had my copy of Skyrim since at least February, lent it to someone and lost contact with them without ever getting it back, so I wasn't particularly bothered about the DLC until recently when I did get a little miffed about it, just because it seemed like us PS3 owners were being shafted because of our console choice (I know it wasn't intentional on the developers part so no need to point it out, it doesn't make it any less annoying) and it's good to know that Bethesda are still trying, I think if they were going to give up on the DLC for PS3 as I'd feared, they would've said so by now, but if they do release the DLC I'll get another copy of Skyrim (2nd hand obviously, I'm not giving a developer money for the same game twice, unless by some bizzare paradox it would be cheaper) I actually do kind of want to play Skyrim again I only made one character

I imagine it's less about the specific DLCs and more about the old issue of Bethesda's inability to correctly code for the PS3's memory causing problems for them, as it caused so many in base Skyrim itself.

So my guess is they found a way to work around that finally, but instead of going back and porting Dawnguard and Hearthfire first, they instead decided to give the newest one and go back to port over the others later.

Fixed that for ya.

They might even have gotten my money for this if I hadn't traded Skyrim in disgust at their unwillingness/inability to code properly for the PS3. Lazy porting from PC works fine for Xbox360. Lazy porting from PC does not, and never has worked well for PS3.

As it is, I won't be buying any more Bethesda products on the current gen without waiting to see how fucked up the PS3 version is. Which is a shame because when they work, they're brilliant. I was even able to tolerate the hourly reboots after reaching a certain point in New Vegas but the fact they can't have not known how badly fucked the PS3 version of Skyrim actually was before happily taking millions of pounds of PS3 owners money doesn't sit well with me.

The only way I'll be playing the DLC's is if I can pick up a pre-owned GOTY edition on the cheap in the distant future.

Bethesda announced that they would work on the Dragonborn DLC as a priority instead of the 2 others for now.
Under this process they believe that they will learn what it was, that they did wrong with the previous 2 DLCs.
Since they are not working yet. And therefore pass the new knowledge into the previous DLCs so that they will work.
I hope their plan works, because when I saw the article about their statement I started having a little faith in them again. xD
