GAME Branches Out Into the Hotel Business

GAME Branches Out Into the Hotel Business

Fancy a night in the ultimate London gaming pad? Do you have 199 per night to spare?

British specialist games retailer The Game Group, which only survived bankruptcy thanks to a spectacular last-minute save, has decided its future now lies in the hotel trade, apparently, provided you have 199 ($320) per night to spare. GAME has partnered with London Stratford City Staybridge Suites to offer The Ultimate Gaming Experience, complete with the latest console kit, pizza, and soft drinks.

It's a January 2013 promotion for the game retailer, which has created a lads' paradise where boys who play hard won't be nagged to do the dishes. Separate gaming areas for each console means your Wii won't get mixed in with your Xbox 360 experience. No mention of whether there's a game library on site or whether you're expected to bring your own fun, but presumably GAME has already thought of that; and you have to be over 18 to book and stay in GAME's decadent suite, so no bringing the kids along.

I'm not sure I'd pay 199 a night to stay in Stratford; and a quick price check shows that 199 is on the high end for Staybridge Suites in January. Still, GAME can't be faulted for trying new things and, if you have money to burn, this could be the place to incinerate it.

Game retailer becomes a hotel business...

Don't see that everyday, but for 199 quid, they can sod off.

Mhahahahahha.....best joke i heard all year.

199 POUNDS(!!) for a single night and the room only has consoles? That's laughable. (Especially since, you know, at that price you could buy a console and it's yours for life)

What I'm saying has nothing to do with "master race" bullshit, by the way, but regular consoles and regular TVs? Where's the luxury appeal? If they had a colossal cinema screen or some crazy PC setup with a multi-monitor array or 3D, or an Oculus Rift, or something special, then it might make sense...

Wow, that's... A lot.
I was thinking "nice idea, this could be the start of something" then I checked the excange rate.
Way to hexxy.

So, wait, they want people to pay 200 quid to spend a night doing... exactly what they'd do on a normal night?

I once paid 60 quid for a hotel. It was very fancy. I had to ask the reception if it was actually a hotel, because I'd never seen a hotel that fancy. I had a choice of two beds, and it was supposedly just a single room. I'm sure if I had a console of some kind, they'd let me connect it to the TV there, too... and as people have pointed out, I could actually afford to buy a console with the difference. Heck, if I wanted to stay 3 nights I could get all 3 consoles. That's a pretty big net gain there.

I can see this venture doing well.
/sarcasm

That is alot of money to burn.

bloody expensive. fuck that.

also, i'm surprised you haven't been bit in the ass about this:

which has created a lads' paradise where boys who play hard won't be nagged to do the dishes.

when in the link, there is no mention of "lad" or "boys".

I see what you did there >.>

OT: This sounds pretty insane and retro considering 8 years ago I could play games on a tv with the controller connected directly to it and it was all covered in the two weeks stay in Orlando and this just screams all kinds of silly.

That and it's way too specific to want to appeal to just gamers that already own consoles and pc's and own games that suit them without having to go to a specific place and pay roughly 199 just to play them again.

I reckon GAME should at least get some DVD's in the mix at their stores like Dante's Inferno anime,DMC anime, Halo Legends etc and also plenty of game soundtrack CD's that I'd buy if they were existent at my store besides strat guides that cost 25 and pale to the vast knowledge of the internet archives.

I... Wait what?

What did I do there?

I just hope GAME realises that used towel sales aren't as appealing as used games :P

Indeed. Please correct this. I, for one, find it incredibly ignorant and offensive. Thanks in advance.

it's just entirely unnecessary, a quick fix for it would be:

which has created a lads' and laides paradise where girls and boys who play hard won't be bothered to mow the lawn or nagged to do the dishes.

yay or nay?

So lets see.

They close a branch of shops that were still profitable without any warning, refuse to give their workers severance pay, lose a lot of their pre-order rights and now they are opening hotels.

GAME would you just bugger off?

Except you didn't. I was saying nothing made their room more special than millions of regular living rooms. There are 2 things that can achieve that result: The hardware running the game and the display.

Hardware: In the case of consoles, the hardware is standardized so what's the bloody point? That's why I refer to exotic PC builds and why it doesn't make sense to charge you the price of an actual console for one night.

Display: So if the hardware's the same as everyone else, what else can make it special? How about a screen that's the size of an entire wall? If they had hooked up a console to cinema screen/projector, then that would've been fine. By the way, I guess you missed that part in my post... Oh wait no you bolded it like it was an argument in favour of PCs.

And if it's not those things, then the room itself would need to be special. Professional grade surround sound, massage chairs, free blowjobs... something!
"Oh no!! He's saying consoles are ordinary, he's clearly bashing them!!1!" Well that's their whole reason for existing. It's what they are: The guarantee that everyone is on the same level playing field and that they can run any game. Which is all well and good, but how much are they charging again?
This isn't the same as saying "hurr consolez suxxorzz durr", which is why I put that line in my post in the first place, but of course you had to take issue with it. I'm so so sorry that I think 200/320$ for a single night isn't worth it to play with the guarantee that I'm having the same experience I'd have at home.
I apologize.

Oh no I never meant to bash you in any form or way in fact I agree it's stupid of them to do this I just found it funny was all.

You have to be an adult with children's problems for this to make sense >.>
Plus who spends 200 bucks to play split screen?

Why?? Why??? Why????

You may as well buy your own console and order pizza!
I go to expos with a group of friends and one of them brings their own xbox for us to play on the night. Easier doing that.

Oh well, at least they're trying something new.

I can pretty much agree with everyone else, it's an awesome idea, but considering 2 nights stay is enough for me to book a normal hotel, BUY a console, order pizza and have cash to spare, I can't see the appeal.
